Can't remember who said it, but a KZbin pool personality spoke about the Chinese players and how they go about searching for a cue. Deflection or low deflection is almost non-issue for them. Their sole mandate was finding a cue with good feel and superb build quality. Every semi decent pool player can learn to account for deflection. I love what you said about the mind side of pool and compared it to driving a nice car. Having faith in your equipment and actually liking it plays a much bigger part than I think people realize. If it's a peri Duke, or a jflowers basic, if you have faith in the cue, genuinely like it, and practice enough, I believe the playing field is more than level. The only real place I think carbon has a definite advantage over wood is the break and the jump. The stiffness and rigidity of the shafts are definitely superior when it comes to those shots👍👍👍 Sorry for the long comment. Love the content man, keep it up!

Love this channel and the advice given I’ve seen people run tables with old 30 year old cue (example look at snooker cues) but even so people still want the latest and greatest. So coming from someone who owned all three shafts and chased the rabbit down the hole. Revo, cuetec, and jacoby and using bull carbon for a month. Jacoby shaft is by far my favorite I hope this will help people decide. The revo to me was unforgiving, had the lowest deflection, but just a really off putting hit to it. Cuetec for the price point to me is a knockout winner especially with the right tip that cue plays like a dream and is well balanced. It was my favorite until I tried jacoby at a demo, on first hit I was surprised how much feedback I got and that kinda satisfying hit you get from wood shafts but advantages of carbon. Also it just seemed to have just a tiny bit less squirt and deflection than the cuetec not as much as the revo. But with the hit and action I was sold. I do want to say I experimented with a couple different butts and I always try different pins and setups. Currently running sneaky Pete jacoby radial pin and jacoby black and tiger onyx tip and love it. But I recently tried it with carbon fiber but and was surprised how much firmer the hit seem in my arm. I thought it was just a rumor that carbon on carbon would play best but it definitely puts a different feedback. I'm a big fan of shane van boening and I'm gonna buy of their $600 cue with the cynergy shaft i think thinking about getting the 11.8 tip diameter cas i like to use a lot of spin...i think your review was awesome thank you....if u could review some break cues that'll be fun as well.

I recently got back into shooting pool and when I did I decided to replace my stolen cues with what I knew so I have a mint McCDermott C-1 that was retired in 1996, a McDermott G-224C3 and a Viking B2207. I l😅ve shooting each of them. I am considering asking for a quality CF shaft for my birthday next month but will most likely choose to wait another year or so because I feel that until I bring my level of play up to where it was 20 years ago a CF shaft, no matter how great it is, would be wasted on me. I believe in getting good with what you have before throwing big money down on something else. CF shafts can’t help you if you can’t play to their level. Hopefully one day my game will be worthy of taking it to the next level but not just yet. Just my $.02 on the subject.

I have a custom Jacoby. Not inexpensive, but you get what you’re paying for, that’s for sure! Perfect workmanship and materials. Unfortunately, I preferred a thin shaft, so had it made to 11.5 mm. I’m 6’ 3”, and eventually realized I needed an extension. With that added, the shaft became too whippy, so I’m selling it. (Would be sad, but it’s to a good friend who I shoot with.) I realized that when I used my Samsara 13.2 mm break shaft with the extension, it worked for breaking and playing. Never thought I’d see the day when I’d have what I really wanted-one cue that does it all. (I can jump with it too.) It took me like 5’ to get used to it. Probably not typical, but it was not a problem. Guess I was lucky. Also the fact that Samsara and Jacoby are at the same high level, and Samsara makes their own very hard leather tip for breaking. Very nice tip.

What version is this Jacoby shaft? V4 is the current, which comes with a black tip. The shaft in this video has tan. V3 came with tan so this must be V3 or possibly earlier. By the way, I purchased the V4 shaft this week based partially on this great review. Thanks!

Why do a lot of carbon fiber shafts come with soft tips? I tried using a soft and I hated it, had to switch back to a medium. But I’m curious why soft is standard.

Just getting back into the game after a very long break. I used to have a cheap carbon fiber wrap cue, it was stolen many years ago. I’ve been looking and found a close replica of that cue, it’s the cuetec 13-99280 (sst shaft). Any opinions are welcomed. I’m torn between nostalgia appearances & the new tech carbon fiber.

Welcome back to the game! In general, I don't think the cue is too decisive for the outcome. However, you need a good shaft and tip. The rest is more icing on the cake. The 99280 is the one with a Veltex wrap yea? An affordable alternative, although I personally don't like the big white ferrule on that model. I would take a look at www.jflowerscues.com for some great alternatives at affordable prices.

@@CueListings thank you! Yes it has the veltex wrap. Though I’m not exactly sure what the wrap feels like, it looks almost like a powder coating. I’m not a fan of the string wrap types. My old cue was smooth & I liked that. The size of the ferrule doesn’t bother me. What attracted me is the carbon checkered pattern like my old cue had. I can’t find anyone else making one like that. All that being said, if I get hooked on pool again I know I’ll end up with a small collection of nicer cues since I can afford it nowadays. Guess I’m just getting caught up on visual appearance & having a cue like the one I really learned to play on. I did see your video on the j flowers & they look very nice, they are definitely on my short list of possibilities. Do you have any experience w/ the sst shaft?

@@BombproofCraftsman I think you can call the first generation of Cuetec shaft "SST". They were also put through a glass fiber bonding process, where thin layers of glass or graphite composite are bonded to Canadian hard-maple. Btw, did you check out the Poison cues? They got some pretty exciting designs...also very affordable cues.

Hi there! Most carbon fiber shafts comes with a pro taper. Typically, they have a 10-14" straight line before they start to taper out.

Also i dont own a pool table always wanted one. @@cryptonator1988 Well, if you only play a couple of times per year - you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. Pool is very much a game where you need to put in the hours to get that muscle memory and experience. I think any beginner should focus on the smaller thing in the beginning. Try learning a stop ball first. Sounds easy, but getting the cue ball to stop dead in its track is actually not so easy. Once you master that, you understand more about the physics of spin. Also, practise hitting the cue ball straight with no spin. Play it into a rail and get it to come straight back. Put 2 chalks down, the CB in the middle, hit it into the rail and it should come back between the chalks without touching them. Lastly, try to learn the tangent line. If you understand that, it will help you a lot with your position game as well as actually making the balls.

I use the Jacoby Edge Hybrid, i have for a few years. I was considering buying and trying the carbon fiber from Jacoby. I tend to move the cue ball with spin for my positions and don't use a lot of table length draw shots. I'm a B player at best, would the feel of this shaft during a shot be noticable to me, or you, between the two shafts? Before watching your video i was thinking that this CF shaft would help me when playing on 9 foot tables where i struggle, but in your opinion you say that the deflection is negligable. So, i will attempt to find someone playing with the Jacoby and give it a whirl. thanks.

Yea, I really don't think you will see much difference between a Jacoby or JFlowers CF shaft. The whole "this has lower deflection than that" part is just a sales gimmick IMO. Most carbon fiber shaft has a very similar (low) deflection.

Wood LD shafts are way, way less deflection than JB. I called jacoby about how much deflection is has (thinking maybe I got a defective shaft), they said to not expect LD like wood. No carbon shaft will have less. Now I'm stuck with a 670$ shaft that plays like a regular maple shaft pre-LD. Thankfully I kept my 314s.

I think something has gotten lost in the translation here. Carbon fiber shafts and wooden shafts have pretty much the same "amount" of deflection/squirt. The biggest advantage of a CF shaft is that it's consistent every time you use it. Wooden shafts are/can not be. Also, a CF shaft is way way more durable.

When I spoke directly with Jacoby, they stated "its low deflection for CF not compared to 314" the person said that wood LD is the lowest. I haven't tried all CF against all wood LD, but I can tell you that the JB I got is junk compared to a 314 and shouldn't have LD tagged anywheres near it.

All the control and playability for pool cues are impacted the most by the tip and shaft selection..... select the cue butt you like and can afford, at the weight that works for you--- spend your money where it counts the most: on the tip and shaft of your preference; you will be happy player.... Efren Manalang Reyes ("Bata" - meaning “the kid”) arrived in the US during the 1970s and won his way into pool history with a $14.00 Chinese manufactured pool cue he bought in Japan just before he arrive here…. I have played Efren a few years ago he is still a very, very great player!!!!! AND he still plays with a NO NAME cue!!!!!!!! HA!

Don't most of the carbon shafts come from China? And most US based companies just fit tips and joints and say the shaft is their own brand? Carbon manufacturing is very hard and I can't see how so many brands could have set up there own carbon production.

Hi G 22, I think it's a well known "secret" that a lot (but not all) of the pool products are manufactured in China and, simply "assembled" or goes through the quality control outside...so the companies can say "..... in the US/x country". Nothing wrong with that. The Chinese are excellent manufacturers. I don't get the whole "Made in China equals poor quality". I mean, most of us use an iPhone or Samsung, right?

@@CueListings hello thanks for taking the time to reply. I dont think made in China means poor quality. I think it's a shame companies are not completly honest about it. What I do beleive is the shafts do not play much different and I completely agree with you that the low defection properties of a shafts cannot vary much from one to another. Tip size and hardness will affect the deflection of a shaft a lot no matter how it is made

@@gclh22 Well, to be honest...I think it's a stigmata in the consumers mind that China = poor quality. So, that means...us consumers need to change our attitude towards this. Before that happens, I don't think any US based company will use "Made in China" in their marketing. It's funny though..90% of our consumer products are in fact made in China. Everyone loves their iPhone or Samsung..but now, suddenly - a CUE made in China is suppose to be of a lesser quality? :D
