The Venus Project

Күн бұрын

A portion of Jacque Fresco's lecture with suggestions to diminish argument and conflict between people. From forthcoming Jacque Fresco Lectures 2010-2011 DVD's, Series 3.
The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt, and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world.

@moety2 i think its a process level that jacque gives; some suggestions and examples may only apply in certain situations. Like the "application of relativity" is what's important, and to what degree your nervous system can take on a lot of antagonism that can arise when you challenge someone's set.. I always try to remind myself everyone's right where they're coming from -which can help lessen argument.

Thanks to technology for keeping Jacque Fresco's visdom alive. I'm new to his philosphy but can say that it speeks louder then words to me. It's sad that there isn't enough people who understand and support his vision, or maybe not yet...

This is extremely good advice. Values that exist at one point in time are a function of a person's life experience. Values in adults take decades to formulate. One conversation will rarely change a person's mind even if their values are wrong and self-destructive. We should model values and not tell people that their values are incorrect.

Behave sincerely and act like you are listening (or if you can get away with it: simply ignore them), but then go do whatever you want to do. I have the same problem and this works well for me.

@orikzzz 11 minutes are not enough to explain everything about conflicts. I'm studying management at university and I had a 30 hour course on conflict management, so if you want to know more about this topic I suggest you and anyone else who's interested in it to take a course or read a book. Since I finished this course I haven't been fighting (in the sense of arguing, not with fists) with others any more :)

My advice to Jacque Fresco it's to stop using "Do you know what i mean?" as a punch line beacause infers ignorance in the other and arrogance and contemp from him. Everythiing else is educational and inspirer.

a lot of what he's saying reminds me of "Feel, Felt, Found" It's a sales technique used to overcome objections without using them as part of the statement so they can't get offended. it goes like this: "I understand you FEEL about that. Many others have FELT the same way, but after they tried our product they FOUND that...." It's clever stuff and it does work. I use it on my wife and kids all the time haha.

I'm reading a very interesting book: "Emotions Revealed" by Paul Ekman, it explains how, why, what happens and what to do when you or someone else feels a specific emotion, especially anger. If you ask me, they should teach this stuff at school.

This is a good vid and somethin I need to work on heavily. Because I've been that antagonist that Jacque was talking about. The problem is, if all people want to do is engage in a "verbal pasttime" as he put it, then I'm not interested in talking and from the trends that I see today. People are wholly blind how do you introduce new things to the majority of the people? Also subtitles please lol?

I have a question for Jacque related to this video: what do you do to escape conflict when the people you live with try to teach you something you know better than them and they won'l leave you alone or listen to reason? How do you escape it when you tell them and prove to them that you know your stuff better then they do and they still insist that their way is better.Because the only resolve I found was to ignore them but I'm still angry and frustrated inside and want to kick their ass..

This is probably off-topic, but I wonder what would you do with people with mental diseases, which would pose a threat to other people if not untreated or left alone. Some of them, if too dangerous, need force to take them to the respective psychiatric clinic. This would be a situation in which communication or conflict resolution couldn't be applied. Unless I'm wrong.

I am in a conflict with my brother because i think his current girlfriend will only bring him sadness in the long run - he doesn't believe it, inexperienced as he is. The whole family and his friends have to pay the cost of this relationship. Maybe he even knows it won't work out but continues to stay in this relationship, and we all need to pay the price of it. What could we do to resolve this conflict? I know it's insignificant but personal relationships are a great source of conflicts.

I think Jacque is correct but if the people never ask, "what do you think about my values", how are you suppose to introduce them into something that is better. I mean there has to be a time where you have to introduce them to something else. It's like letting a person think 2+2=5 because they never asked you what do you think about my math. You don't just let them be do you? Maybe it would be better to learn theirs then share yours instead of just letting them be.

We should start reading the books that Jacque recommended us: Tyranny of words, Mind in the making, Science and Sanity, Manhood of Humanity, etc. I read 8 chapters from Science and Sanity, but the problem is that it is very difficult to understand what Alfred Korzybski said in that book.

It is possible I am wrong but I think people like that do such things in certain motives. When they teach you smth they don't wanna help you, they want false superior feeling on you. This is kind of pleasure for them. Often it is connected to their psycological problems. I guess the best way to do is to tell them w is really going on. Unemotional and solid. I hope this can help to your situation This guy describe very clearly "/watch?v=nKNyFSLJy6o I think my skype: minidollar_ P.S. sry 4 bad Eng
