In this video, Prof. Jacques Crémer (Toulouse School of Economics) sets out a general framework of the issues that competition policy faces with respect to platforms. While traditional competition policy is well consolidated and tries to increase efficiencies of sectors, something very different happens in platforms: small ones are neither feasible nor desirable, data plays an important role and finally, they present network externalities. As a result, one or few firms emerge only. This raises interesting new questions for competition policy that Prof. Jacques Crémer tries to address.
