As Offenbach Connaisseur I can approve , this is not only a FIRST CLASS PERFORMANCE, but comparable to enrigistrations of "La Belle Helene" Ouverture of some World famous orchestras! Even the sound is OVERWHELMING! This is by FAR, one of the best recordings I ever heard!

Offenbach is a French outstanding composer (he played cello first), and his musical works have greatly enriched the musical treasury especially in opera.

He was German, a son of the city of Cologne. While he worked mostly in Paris, he never lost touch with his Heimat and composed quite a few pieces for the Cologne Men's choir.

It is the Eduard Haensch version. Haensch compiled the overture using Offenbach's materials. The Operetta itself has a different overture.

This is an orchestra of Alumni. The Alumni Orchestra is assembled once each year. It rehearses on December 23rd and performs on December 26th as the opening to a concert of 5 ensembles.

Bravo youthful…and youthful lush… musicians. Shame on camera work. Wow, it really only take# a SMALL percent of the time it takes the orchestra to prepare the performance to just get a good idea of where to highlight various instruments and solos etc.
