Kalani’s dad was a close friend of mine on Maui in the early 90’s (RIL Plinio). Kalani was born on Maui, raised in Brazil with his mom. He would come back to Hawai’i every year, he’s also a pro bodyboarder too. Great young man, his dad was always proud of him in everything he did! 🙏🏼

Reminds me of when I was younger. Bodysurfing those big waves one has to be in shape... the breathing, kicking, paddling, duck diving.. going back to the lineup... This dude is shape... Thank you for sharing. 🌊🏄🏽♂️

I am an old Wedge nut, too, during the late 50s and 60s. Actually was the first woman to bodysurf the Wedge! Moved to Hawaii and bodysurfed until I was 70 and had to have a hip and shoulder replacements. Had to move back to the mainland. I still have my fins and a couple of hand planes! I am now 76 and if I ever get down south, I will take my fins!

@@bigbadstretch13yrago - I do have an Instagram account, but my fins are historically fairly new Viper V-7s, which were given to me by Fred Simpson in about 2002 for the Masters at the Pipe. Back in the day I used Churchill’s and early on, most bodysurfers wore only one fin.. the green Churchill “Makapu’u” was first made in 1938 and is still made today!

Well I have massive respect for him doing that there but trying to put it into perspective I’ll mention this: I’ve tried to paddle out in 10-12ft bombs on a board and it was fruitless to near drowning. The following day on that same swell without a flotation i had little to no problem. Understandably i got thrashed and broken and lost a fin but was still able to take the tumbles. With due respect to your comment I’d be way more in awe of Andre Botha or Nathan Florence than someone who can duck dive as deep as the ocean allows him to. My opinion
