I always felt like she was taking all the heat and falling on the sword to protect Will’s image because he has the most money and more to lose. I think he’s been cheating on her for years and they eventually decided to separate in secret until years later when she let the cat out the bag. Essentially they are legally married but living separate lives and enjoying other people. The public just didn’t know about it until it came out at her expense.
