Hey Chase? I hit 100 every now and then, my last bike was a GSXR that could top out at 160. I had to get rid of it or probably die or have a shitload of tickets. My 1600 is solid as a rock at 100mph and that's really all I could want at age 54, haha!

Johnny jr I totally understand where you're coming from. I sold my R1 and Ninja 636 earlier this year in order to help put a down payment on a house. I always wanted a cruiser to go along with my sportbike and I just recently bought an 04 Road Star for cheap. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and comfy the Road Star is. No buyers remorse is a relief and even though I'll eventually get another sportbike, I'm not necessarily missing them either.

No showboating from a real man willing to take time to teach and create nicely edited videos for those of us that need his knowledge and can't always afford to pay a professional, or don't want to wait until winter for an oil change. Great, informative vid - very helpful to the shade tree mechanic. One note of caution: The author says several times that "you can use any oil you like" but it's critical to understand the type of oil going into a wet-clutch system like a RoadStar. The oil MUST be JASO-MA2 rated, and NOT have friction modifiers or an "Energy-Saving" star on the label. Not being JASO-MA2 rated and/or having friction modifiers in it will ruin your clutch friction plates and cause your clutch to slip. Fortunately, the author shows Mobil 1 V-Twin oil. This IS JASO-MA2 rated. Not all Mobil 1 oils are rated as such. Be an informed motorcycle owner, and your riding experience will be more enjoyable!

Thank you very much for making this video! I just have a couple comments. The .3 quart that you are leaving out is a fairly significant amount. Not with regard to oil pressure or engine lubrication, but because more volume allows for more cooling, and it also slows your breakdown that much more. That leads to my second comment. I'm not an oil expert, but you stressed the fact that the only difference between conventional oil and synthetic oil is that the synthetic doesn't break down as fast. From my understanding, that is only one of the benefits. Synthetic oil has a better flow rate. Not the same as viscosity. Basically, it gets into places more easily than conventional oil.
@Jadams19115 жыл бұрын
.3 of a quart is 9.3 ounces. Some people may not measure this out and over fill their engines. so just adding 4 quarts is much easier and running slightly lower on oil is better then having too much, I agree with your statement synthetic oil has a better viscosity and does flow better, but I felt it is better to let the rider decide on the oil they chose. I've ran both and never had any issues.

@Jadams19117 ай бұрын
You want the bike up right to check the oil. Its a process checking oil on a Road star. You have to start the bike allow it to warm up then shut it off and wait a few minutes to allow the oil to settle to get a correct reading. If it's not leaking or burning oil don't worry about it. when you do an oil change with filter it takes 4 quarts and 8 ounces. Most of us just add 4 quarts,

I recently bought one of these bikes and I read that when changing the oil drain the tank first then the engine. Not sure if that makes any difference or not but my question for you is. The owners manual says it takes 4.3 quarts with the filter change but a dry engine holds over 5 qts so apparently you do not get all the old oil out on a normal oil change. Do you know how to get the rest of the oil out ? The reason I am asking is the owners manual says do not change brands of oil you should use the same oil that was in it. I want to change to AMSOIL and Lucas was used by the previous owner.. Amsoil says it is ok to mix brands but extended oil changes are not recommended.
@Jadams19115 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter which you drain first, oil tank or engine. Once they are both drained add 2 qt to the oil tank then start the bike, rev the engine a few times, this sucks the oil into the engine. turn the bike off and add the remaining 2 qts to the oil tank. Most of us just add 4 qt because it is simple. If you want to add the .3 you can measure out 9.6 ounces. To remove all the oil you would need to split the case, don't worry about mixing oils it will be fine.
@jimeckenrode12715 жыл бұрын

Dear Mr. James, I can not open the seat of my Yamaha XV1600 Wild Star, please help me, you tell how I can open the seat. Please. Thanks in advance.
@Jadams19113 жыл бұрын
The seat opens by turning the key to the left without pushing down on the key. You may have to push down on the seat as you turn the key. When you turn the key it pulls a cable that releases the seat latch. If your cable is broken you will need to use a stiff wire bent with a hook on the end, then slide the wire under the left side of the seat and feel for the latch, it is toward the front of the seat.

I start it up and it goes down. I can add like half a quarter very slow until is full again and i repeat the process. Is this normal? Thanks for the vid
@Jadams19117 жыл бұрын
Remember you have two drain plugs on the Road Star. One is under the engine, the other is under the oil tank. Once you drain both then replace the plugs and only add two quarts of oil to the oil tank that's under the seat, then start the bike and rev the engine 4 or 5 times, this will allow the oil to be sucked into the engine so you have room for the remaining two quarts of oil in the oil tank. It's normal that the oil goes down slowly, don't rush or you'll have a big mess to clean up. Lol I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
