Jade (Video Excerpt)

Jade is a duo of piano and pipa. Pipa is also called the Chinese lute, a plucked category folk instrument that has a history of 2000 years. The gem Jade is transformed from minerals under high temperature and high pressure. In Chinese culture, Jade stands for integrity and modesty through the test of hardship. The loose conversation between piano and pipa forebodes the serendipity and eon of the gem formation. The gem’s final metamorphosis happens when the music gradually develops into an intensive rotating fingering session of pipa and a close entanglement with piano.
