Im so happy the comments are back because I always wanted to share that this video came at a time where I was in a very dark place and listening to Jadient talk made me feel like I had a friend. I hope he knows that he made an impact on me and helped me carry on through the lowest moments of my life. Thank you!

Jadiant is so cool! As someone studying speech and language, I would love to learn more about his speech process, because the way he approximates certain bilabial and labiodental phonemes absolutely seamlessly is blowing my mind right now. He has a terrific sense of humor, too!

I don’t know those big words, but I believe that I was wondering the same thing. Like sounds from P, B, M, letters.. so impressive, I was staring at his mouth in awe
@candice_ecidnac
@candice_ecidnac 2 жыл бұрын
This isn't intended to make light of the situation at all, just for informational purposes. Sometimes the trick is to replace the sound with something close, so instead of using 'b' you'd use a 'd' so for burned you'd try to say "durned" and for 'p' you'd replace it with a 't'. You can sort of hear it around 8:35 when he says "I wasn't dreathing". He also seems to do it at the end, when he says "At the end you'll like this story detter than your old one". This is what many ventriloquists do, but it's also helpful for others who have issues pronouncing the letters 'p', 'b', and so on. Edit: I'm curious if you've learned about this at all in your studies, since it's been 5 months since your comment :)

He can't close his lips to say "B, M, and P" bc of the scar tissue and the stiffening of his grafted skin. So he's just replaced them with letters that don't require him to close his lips. "D for B, N for M, T for P". Simple dimple homies. :)
@katiestott1449
@katiestott1449 Жыл бұрын
@@candice_ecidnac from what I can tell, he's using the same voicing and manner of articulation for these sounds, but has moved to the closest place of articulation farther back for the sounds that require it. For example, "p" is a voiceless bilabial stop, and the next voiceless stop that doesn't require engagement of the lips is the alveolar stop "t". This is the same for voiced "b" to "d". Labiodental fricatives (f, v) become linguadental fricatives (theta, eth), bilabial nasal (m) becomes alveolar nasal (n), etc. This seems pretty straightforward for improving intelligibility on the surface, but if you try hindering the engagement of your own lips, you find that you don't immediately default to doing that. Most people pronounce phonemes with muscle memory alone and don't tend to mentally categorize them in this way unless someone has introduced them to the concept. I'm interested to know whether Jadiant worked with someone who taught him these approximations, or he worked it out himself over time. In any case, it's a very cool way to adapt speech to physical differences that affect articulation.

Jadiant’s story is so powerful. Had to come back to this one. It’s hard and easy at the same time to imagine how he used to be before finding his way in life. He is seriously funny and I’m in awe of the way he loves showing off(that split tho). I love how he’s vibing

I wish my son had a friend like him. We need a network, guys. So much courage, insight, wisdom, and love in this world. I donate to SPSk and hope that the founders have a healthy new arrival...or some news for us soon.
