The 1968 Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris E859 Q2008470 is the definitive vintage Jaeger LeCoultre diving watch and diving alarm. While original JLC Polaris examples are highly collectible, they're far too old to enjoy submerged as the artisans of Le Sentier intended.
Enter the 2008 Jaeger LeCoultre Tribute to Polaris. Produced in a total of 768 copies with the definitive "1968" dial, this modern diving Memovox is as rare as the vintage original. The 42mm case is nearly identical to the Super Compressor original right down to the triple Ervin Picquerez SA "quadrille" crowns and domed Plexiglas crystal.
Inside the watch, Super LumiNova ensures that vintage dial graphics and modern night time luminescence co-exist. The internal rotating dive bezel remains from the vintage Jaeger LeCoultre E859 Polaris, and an automatic JLC Memovox alarm caliber sits secure within the 200-meter water resistant case.
Jaeger LeCoultre's manufacture caliber 956 was created specifically for this application. Automatic winding and a 45-hour power reserve ensure convenience for modern watch buyers, and a date window is supported by the first ever quick set date in a JLC Memovox movement. Hacking seconds, ceramic winding rotor bearings, a 28,800 vibration per hour beat rate, and a free sprung balance ensure that all modern watchmaking standards are respected.

Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, date, and alarm. The watch also measures 17.7mm in thickness and 47mm from lug-to-lug.

With the launch of the 2018 Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris line, JLC has revived this model twice in the last decade. While certain of the new Polaris models are appealing, this 2008 Tribute to Polaris is scarcer and more compelling than any of this year's models. Best, Tim

I feel the same way. These editions were thoughtful, faithful, and sufficiently exclusive not to dilute the appeal of originals. Even considering the 2011 Reverso 1931 and 2012 "Reverso Rouge," 2011 with the Deep Sea is where JLC should have ended its "tribute" run. Best, Tim

Fantastic piece. I love mine. Now, how to avoid hairlines on the back _ as an engineer I never understood how stainless steel could develop hairlines whilst being exclusively in contact with either skin & hair, bed side table wood surface or a cotton cloth ?

There are two versions of the dial for this reference, one with lumed indices and one without. The one with lume is rarer.
