I tried a similar lifestyle and it didn't work. I had two problems: the local villagers were relying on me too much for piece work even when i didn't have any. Number two, the same locals kept burning the forests including my area threatening my fruit trees and beehives. The energies didn't feel right. I sold the farm and moved to a nearby town where I keep a small garden that i take care myself; I've adopted a minimalist lifestyle and I'm a much happier person now. At the village I stood out and its not a good idea.

Oh,so sorry about that. My village is quite peaceful. Everyone seems busy on their farms, so no one bothers anyone. I'm just a little overwhelmed with work, but I'm definitely living right where I want to be.

Jael. I hear you, I thought Kenya is better because labor is so cheap and available. I am an entrepreneur, business owner, Retailer in USA for 25 years. Always had a storefront with several employees but since Covid things changed in the USA and we are going through a very difficult time NO LABOR FORCE. So I closed my brick and motor store last year February and I have been working from home and exhibitions around USA, since then NOT easy . I have even decided not to open a storefront again. At the moment I work and ship from home, down to 2 employee's and me. It is not easy for a business that had about 8 employees. I am exhausted.

Don't know if this is possible for you, but once in a while, just wake up and do nothing, put up your feet, read a book, watch the telly, and let the day pass by. I recommend a personal retreat and you have a great space to do that. Something I also recommend is changing the direction of your furniture if your home permits. Remember the reason why you moved to the village. What you are experiencing is called the 'brick wall'. This is the time to step back and collect your thoughts on you really want to live. It is okey to feel overwhelmed at times. As an entrepreneur myself sometimes you feel you cannot go on but I feel the countryside life offers so much relief. Hi Jael, I feel you. However, I have two points. 1. Money. I'm not sure if you have PASSIVE income that give you something small every month (interest from a money market fund or rental property). This will not make you rely on unpredictable farming. 2. Love. It is harder for one than it is for two. A companion, to share time, cooking, farming, love etc. Just my thoughts. The rural area is fast urbanising. With a few more years of devolution we will be OK.

Hi Jael: did you cover your dough when you had them on your baking sheet to rest before baking? Another idea is to brush your cinnamon buns with egg before baking to give them a shine just before you put them in the oven. If you like raisins (dalasini) adding some to your dough is an option to consider. Treat yourself to some time off/change of scene to catch your breath. Good to catch up with you once again. Cheers!

I wanted slow living but I realised that that homesteading is anything but slow. Farm work is almost always engaging. Animals need to eat whether it's Sunday or Xmas. I opted for a weekend retreat on a small piece of land that I feel its practical for me.

Keep strong at times we all experience this low. For me I talk and pray to God and he gives me the strength to keep going. Quitting is not an option.

@jael what you are doing is excellent. Do you know how many people want to go back home and do what you are doing. But they just can't afford it. That's why some people watch your videos cause it brings them comfort. It reminds them of home. Like myself even the birds I tune in just to listen to. Every where is having a bad down turn everyone is feeling the pinch. I got a home where I am from in few months time I be going home.i can't wait. Climate change is all over the world.
