Straight Pipe Exhaust | Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series | Should You Do It?

In this video I replace the exhaust system on my 200 Series Landcruiser with a straight through pipe system, deleting all mufflers and resonators. I test the before and after exhaust note and loudness and compare the empirical data in a spreadsheet. Should you fit a straight through exhaust pipe on your Toyota Landcruiser? This analysis should help you in determining if this is something that you want to do.
Check out the Jafffa Adventure library for many other Toyota Landcruiser modification videos.

😂😂 I took the muffler out of my 200 a few years ago, cat back straight through. Love the sound, if you’re paying the V8 fuel bill you want the V8 sound👍

Thanks for the video Terry. Very enlightening and succinct. I have the DPF model so really leaves me with minimal options. Keep these coming as I enjoy learning from them. I even bought the Ebay portable electric oil transfer pump so I can do my own diff and gear box oils. You have inspired me. Thanks for this.

I've got a 2021 LC200 with stock exhaust. I put muddies on because I was going on a Gibb River Rd trip. Highly recommend them, the road was ROUGH at the eastern end. The difference in the noise was there but just barely with the windows up. When I got a snorkel (Armax) the turbo whistle was pronounced. Then I put a Donaldson "salad bowl" centrifugal prefilter on and my goodness even in a car park it is whistley with the windows down! But again, at 100 towing my camper it's there but not intrusive. Don't think I'll bother doing an exhaust, I like the quiet rumble inside. Then again when the newness goes away in the coming years the temptation to get that bark installed might beat me...

Thanks for sharing mate, good information for anyone in a similar situation to you. Exhaust note is such an individual thing, it’s difficult to generalise that’s for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting mate, I sincerely appreciate it 😎👍

I have three inch into 3.5 inch with a muffler and no resonator (2015 gxl) , I’d like it a bit louder but I tow a van a lot, and when the vans on I definitely wouldn’t want it louder, I think it’s more the sound bouncing back off the van than the amount of load because my vans fairly light for the 200, but it definitely makes me turn the stereo up on a long trip. Yours sounds great now👌
@JafffaAdventures
@JafffaAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
That’s great feedback Steve, and I never thought of sound bouncing off the van but I think you are onto something here. Like when you drive past a guard rail with your windows down, the car sounds so much louder. It’s a good thing I don’t tow I guess. Thanks for sharing your feedback mate, I sincerely appreciate it 😎👍

All good stuff mate but I'm a way off playing with mine as I still have 3 years of warranty left and if I change something I fear it'll be an excuse for Toyota to get out of a claim if something happens. Keep them coming mate as I look forward to your weekly vids. Like the beasts in the backgrounds too ;) (The red one and the work in progress one I'm referring to)

I have an Outlaw 2.75" to 3.5" turbo back exhaust on the LC200. The kit came with a centre muffler delete (and I started without the centre muffler). I loved the sound at WOT, however, I could not live with the drone at freeway speed so I actually put the centre muffler back in .... wonder why the experience is so different? Perhaps the 2.75" pipes are too large.
@JafffaAdventures
@JafffaAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a good question Alex, and one that is certainly above my pay grade. Perhaps I’m just a deaf old man that can’t hear a drone😂. I don’t think so on a serious note, I can listen to the radio at the same level I enjoyed before no problems at all. I have 2.5” into 3” for what it’s worth. Thanks for sharing mate😎👍

I have a similar setup to you Terry and I tow a 3 ton van. I also was apprehensive about removing the two muffflers (well, resonators really) so I also did what you did, remove the center one first and found the same as you! I then removed the rear “muffler” and had the same result as you, but I have two hi-flow cats at the front. My exhaust sound is slightly louder (not much at all really) with the van on, but no droning. My tail piece, which is bent down a bit more than yours, extends out just past the bottom lip of the rear bumper, so maybe that’s why I don’t get a droning or as someone else said, the noise bouncing off the van! Good informative video!

Love this…. Another great video Terry. Are there ADR specs on max dB for exhaust under the 3 identified scenarios? All I know is that I have a petrol 200 series and replaced the entire exhaust system around 5 weeks ago ( extractors to tailpipe) and acoustics aside, I am getting around 3.5 - 4 l/100 km better fuel economy still driving the same way pre and post. Still hideous economy but getting there.
@JafffaAdventures
@JafffaAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you mate, you are very kind with your words. I suspect there are specs for max dB but I do not know what they are. I do know that a dude on a Harley blew past me the other day and that’s all I could hear😂. I have not had the system on long enough to do a fuel comparison but your results are very encouraging. Thanks for sharing, it helps everyone out. Cheers😎👍

Great caption and video Terry - should I do it? That’s the question I’ve been pondering for a while. Have a DPF 200 which I enjoy getting out on the tracks and have started pushing a few videos to show some local tracks to the community - I’m unsure if I’d get the bark out of mine with a straight pipe. Well done on the content. Awesome stuff!

You are very kind with your words Mike, thank you very much. It’s a really tough question to answer because it is such an individual question. I liken it to, “what’s your favourite colour”? Everyone’s answer is so different. What I tried to do was share the change to help someone try and answer the question for themselves. Thanks for watching and commenting mate, I sincerely appreciate it 😎👍

Bugger me ! V8 Sounds good, but sorry Terry…. The pipe is still 1.5 mtr to long!!!! And terrible 2 in 1 ! Look at the G Waggon AMG 65 side pipes left and right side way in front of the rear wheels… My opposite neighbor drives my crazy since 4 years.. just going idle in his parking spot with his G Waggon!!! When I am back home I go and borrow that beast and red line it in first gear in the compound !! Let’s see if if it turns the wheels on the black top… Yeh.. for sure will record it. Keep the sunny side up and be happy to live in gods country…. Cheers….
