I have been watching this channel for YEARS and think this man packs in more quality info per vid than just about anyone. It has been a long time since the rehoming of my last gen 1 eclipse and I still miss the 5 of them that were in my stable. I had some good times with them and some CATASTROPHIC failures (the turbo was EPIC). Thx Jafro for your dedication to the brand!!! The 4g63 is nothing short of a BEAST!

7:55 the icecube tray is SUCH a brilliant idea. Like, you couldn't get any more perfect of an idea, even if you designed it specifically for the job. Nice! 16:44 you don't need to double nut tho, just take a cap nut, drop a tight fitting ball bearing in the cap and that's that. The threads will grip the stud and all the force will be sent through the bearing ball. Removal is another story, but for putting them on, you only need that cap.

here i thought winkle black was the coolest color for a valve cover, but the glyptal one that Jafo has is even better.
@Jafromobile5 күн бұрын
That Glyptal valve cover is actually polished. The one here is powder coated. Galants and other JDM Mitsubishis came with a red valve cover originally, so I had it redone to stay on-theme. I had a snapped off piece of casting repaired, too... because this valve cover says "MITSUBISHI" on it. Kinda rare because NONE of the DSMs do. So I got it fixed. Actually Detective Coating did it for me.
@Jafromobile5 күн бұрын
You know I totally missed an opportunity to talk more about that. I have to go back in there again when I bolt it on and degree cams, so I will... but just sayin'.
@justamar5 күн бұрын
@@Jafromobile I look forward to the video, valve covers are totally one of those eye-candy pieces on the car, in the 240z community, people look out for the ones that just say NISSAN on them, with no reference to the displacement (2400/Turbo). Please do talk about crank case ventilation, and modifications to the cover if you get the chance.

I wonder if old school bodywork lead would work for filling pits in aluminum like that. It still involves heat, but not nearly as much as welding. Although, probably not nearly as cheap as epoxy, I'd imagine.
@Jafromobile7 күн бұрын
LOL! Bro your YT -username is gold! I just don't know how you'd get lead to stick to aluminum? That's the tricky part. I think epoxy might be my best bet? It blends right in once I cut it down with the file. It's invisible once the valve cover's on it. It's really impressive how unnoticeable it is. Let's just hope there's no oil leak from anything to draw unnecessary attention to it... I think it will do fine!

Polishing the CC does have merit, if nothing else, because it stops a fair decent amount of schmutz from gripping unto the surface. I was unconvinced of the claim, didn't want to invest the time to do it on a full engine, so i did it on a B&S engine from a mower. Where before it would always (eventually) get a build up, it hasn't except for the areas where pitting already existed and i didn't bother to fix or go deeper. Jm2c.

@ChristmasCrustacean15 күн бұрын
@@Jafromobile I think you may need to invest in a quarter dozen moon seals. at least the Kiggly regulators are available, I get it though, hard to justify when the diverter works "fine". At least the Hyundai doesn't need one.

You talked about polishing the combustion Chambers. I'm about to build my first set of heads. Is there any advantage to polishing the chambers or is it not worth the time?
@martin-vv9lf6 күн бұрын
he did it because there was a casting flaw on one cylinder. any sharp edges on the metal can cause preignition, like a hot bulb engine.
@theezeelife2925 күн бұрын
@martin-vv9lf I asked if there were any advantages to polishing the chambers, not if there WHY he mentioned polishing the chambers.
@mattmanyam5 күн бұрын
Because Gamora? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@mikescherrer49235 күн бұрын
Any power or efficiency gains will be pretty small, but it can help keep the chambers clean by giving carbon less to attach to.

Hey budday, one question, who'd you use to machine the cylinder head? I need work done and need a good machine shop, and that packaging was immaculate.
@Jafromobile4 күн бұрын
They are the best in the import world. I am the nobodiest nobody to ever nobody into their shop. My goals don't match the goals of the rest of their customer base. Their customers break world records. But I want to remain both a friend and customer. I was explicitly told in the first 2 minutes of conversation not to promote them on KZbin as they don't need it to stay busy. If I can ever afford their services again, I want to be able to do that. So I have to respect their wishes. I did talk to my Patreons about it because combined with my hard work over the years, they are the only reason I was ever able to afford this. But I've always wanted to bring you all something that was next level... and brother, this is it. It's coming...

I looked up the price on that cam seal installer... lol
@Jafromobile3 күн бұрын
$148? Or did you find the parts warehouse listing (which is just a catalog, no warehouse exists anywhere anymore) that was in the $400's? If you really want it, toolsource will make it for you special order for $52 plus shipping. Keep in mind that eBay prices are about 1/3 of what the dealerships used to charge for these tools, and it's why most DSMers don't have them. We were way too poor. $400 can buy an awful lot of horsepower with a DSM.
@Thee_Sinner3 күн бұрын
@@Jafromobile I just searched the part number, first and only site I clicked was like $160 I think. I have no need for this tool, was just curious. I dont even own a Mitsubishi vehicle; I just like the knowledge you spread. I will likely need to reference your rust removal process many times in the future; Ive got an engine thats been waiting for me in the garage for a couple years.
