So many things to comment on, John: What a great video! Being an ex-pat Valleys Boy who owns an XK-8, a roadtrip in Purdey to the "Land of My Fathers" was a must-watch. Had to smile as you crossed the Severn: the rain stopped - not a very regular occurrence... My late (2005) XK8-S is having it's rust treated at the moment. Both front floorpans (where the factory attached those infamous production track spigots) plus the other usual suspect areas are being addressed. And I SORN & keep it garaged during the winter months! Still, we're at the end of an era for big petrol cars, so it'll be worth the investment to enjoy it while I can. I can only agree with your comments regarding parents. After losing my dad, I've moved my mam up from Merthyr Tydfil to live close to me in the Waveney Valley. I was wondering which "train factory" you were visiting. I guess it's where they're assembling the new "FLIRT" trains? Or was it the maintenance depot at Taff's Well? As I've said previously, I love your "Lifestyle" videos.

Great to hear from you Stephen. No the Company is CAF Rollingstock UK and they are making the new trains for Wales and Borders as well as other projects in the UK and Elsewhere in the World. CAF is a massive Spanish/Basque company. Their factory is behind Amazon on the former Steelworks sites as you head towards Newport.

@ToTheGarage Ah yes. That's the one I meant: Got my CAF's & Stadler's mixed up! A relative of mine is in the market for a van, so I've sent him this video. He was initially thinking about something large like an A Class or a longish Chausson, but has recently started to consider panel van conversions like the one you've just bought.

Grandblogisimo is one of my favorites as well. Life has slowed his output a bit, but he keeps them coming as he can. And yes, he has filmed some spectacular settings and well worth anyone’s time. And with all the how-to’s between you and O&DR Modurol I keep my 2006 XKR happy.

Great video once again John. Go for an XF sportbrake or Range Rover. A great work horse and very large luggage space is the Skoda superb. I have had two as company cars and the first one I did 97k miles in under 3 years and averaged 60 mpg. The one I am running now has done 85k miles. Also it is one of the few family cars you can have a cream leather interior which is what I have. Good luck in your search

Hi John, next time you pass teletubbyland and you have time pop in, we are only a few miles away…… your dads always around, please talk to him… your purchase, I’m placing a bet on a Bentley or an immaculate Marina…… but for practical day to day - we did a major trip in America a few years ago in a Nissan X-trail, did the job very well, but for the same principle I think a Lexus would suit the lifestyle…..

Phew, what a lot to "unpack" John. Maybe you should make one of those slooow videos over several hours as in Scandinavia & also here for the Ghan rail trip ?? First up, what a reminder of UK driving conditions & the disciplined driving where people actually move over to the inside lane as normal. You will not see that here in QLD where real motorways do not exist & still drivers stay in the outside lane. Yep, lovely salt on the roads played havoc with my MG Midget, only available as a convertible, moustache not included ! It was "refurbished" 40 years ago & recent resto work has uncovered the bodgey work done by so called MG experts in East Anglia. Glasses, can people really want to know about such things !! I swear by what were originally called photochromic by Polaroid, Polagray, which I have worn for more than 45+ years. Now they are called transition for some reason, anyhow, I need them exactly for the same reason as you. People were initially intrigued with the fact that they changed colour & asked what happens when I go through the Dartford Tunnel, easy, my pupils adjusted as required. Your new pooch is a joy, I looked up the breed in Oz, interesting history. Reminds me of our Pekinese, the lion dog, who really had the heart of a lion & knew no fear. Re the new vehicle I am sure you can pick up a well serviced Freelander 2 cheap as chips. Built whilst under Ford management, like the XK8, very few issues as my wife's daily drive & with a diesel is economical along with an amazing amount of grunt when required. Will not enter the EV area but your points are well taken especially here in Oz. Mind you apparently BP has established a 180 bay charging station at the NEC ? Thanks for taking the time to leave a detailed comment my friend. Yes despite my comment on Landrover (That I stand by) the Free lander 2 is indeed on my not very short list. It does seem to be the most reliable LR product of its era and interestingly, I have been checking out reviews of the cars I have not previously owned on my shortlist on via KZbin. It stood out that a good deal of the used reviews on Freelander 2's were from Oz. And being aware that other than road salt, you guys have the climate and road conditions to really hammer cars mechanically, I put high value on good reviews from Oz based KZbinrs.

you need a Range Rover. When I lived in the UK I had a MGB Roadster and the top was down unless it was torrential rain or torrential snow, drizzle it stayed down and light flurries it stayed down with the heater on full blast and a thick pair of gloves, I'm sure anyone that saw me thought I was nuts, they were probably right. Coup where you keep your chickens, from French carrosse coupé, literally ‘cut carriage’. coupe, eg: it's not a porsch it's a PorschAHH (sic) Boy are you being screwed for petrol here we are bitching because bidumb has got our petrol to over $5 a US gallon when President Trump was in power it was roughly $2 a gallon and you are paying roughly $8.50 c gallon. I hate EV's and they cause more pollution than gas cars (Indirectly) also should you run out of power on a journey are you going to walk to the nearest station and pick up a gallon of electricity. IF you must find alternative fuel then Hydrogen is the way to go.
