Khawaja Azizul Hasan Majzoob, also known as Aziz al-Hasan Ghouri, was a prominent Indian Islamic scholar and poet whose legacy resonates through the corridors of Urdu literature. Born on June 12, 1884, in Orai, Ghouri emerged as an esteemed figure within the realms of Sufism, becoming an authorized disciple of the renowned Ashraf Ali Thanwi. Educated at the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, now Aligarh Muslim University, he adorned his alma mater with distinction, earning degrees in both BA and LLB. Beyond his scholarly pursuits, Ghouri's illustrious career spanned public service, marked by his tenure as a deputy collector and his subsequent role in the Department of Education. His literary contributions, particularly in the realms of ghazal, nazm, hamd, and naat poetry, garnered widespread acclaim, with his poetic collection "Kashkol-e-Majzoob" standing as a testament to his profound artistry. Ghouri's poetic prowess found resonance not only in the hearts of his contemporaries but also in the esteemed recognition bestowed upon him by the Government of British India, earning him the titles of Khan Sahib and Khan Bahadur. His poetic oeuvre, exemplified by timeless verses such as "Har Tamanna Dil Se Rukhsat Hogayi," continues to inspire generations, perpetuating his legacy as a luminary of Urdu literature. Ghouri's profound devotion to Sufism and his intimate association with Ashraf Ali Thanwi are encapsulated in his literary masterpiece "Ashrafus-Sawaneh," a biography that serves as a poignant testament to his reverence for his spiritual mentor. On August 17, 1944, Ghouri's earthly journey came to a close, yet his enduring influence persists, immortalized within the annals of Urdu literary heritage.
