Jagex just changed PvP forever

Today jagex released one of the biggest PvP updates ever, the PvP Arena. This video explains how it works and also covers the new armour that was added.

osrs players are very wary of power creep, especially when it contributes to a parasitic gameplay loop (pk'ers killing pvm'ers who only want to escape)

This is pretty awesome. It lets you no risk practice high risk setups and it's genius. As a long time pvmer, I'm pretty much terrible at pvp. This can help people like me that want to learn to pvp.

Match making tdm would be sick as heck and rejuvenate the interest in PVP. You will never directly increase Wildy pvp but you can make people interested in pvp to provide increased use of wildy for that reason.

Gotta be honest. I haven't ever pk'd; theskill gap is just ridiculous, and it f hurts to lose your noob money you spent so long to get. The ELO thing is prolly the best part of this. The cry baby tryhards can fight between them, and noobs can practice in peace. I think this is one of the best updates in a long time. Maybe since the osrs launch.

I would just like to say, this is one of the craziest things to see in gaming, like, ever. You're witnessing the consequences of a community that took the game so seriously, their spirits are officially being recognized by the devs. Zerks, Pures, etc. Those were just concepts, names given to a play style - by the PLAYERS. I will 100% start play pvp now. Liked it for years but everytime I ve tried I got shitted on so hard. LMS was good at the start but after a while only pros or bots played the game so I really really love this game update! See you guys on a high risk world maybe ;)

I've been playing this game for 15+ years and I gotta say that this is probably the best update they've ever implemented into the game. I used to swarm the internet for nicely populated spawn servers and most servers made you pay real $$$ to spawn certain items which was never for me so I never got the real experience of high risk pvping. Now I can do so without all the anxiety that comes with it in the main game. This will definitely bring back old players

Why would the arena replace the pvp worlds? The worlds give you the chance to gain the opponents loot if you kill them, can you do that in the arena?

Many pkers don't care about loot and just want to fight. Pure pking gives very little loot as does zerker pking, they only risk a few hundred k. As I said in the video, risk fights will still take place in PvP worlds but there's no reason for others to not use the PvP arena.

I'd personally love to see them incorporate a set of sparring partner npcs that have a different levels of difficulty such as switching prayers to match the current weapon equipped or attack used moving and swapping attack styles. And maybe ones that even incorporate advanced mechanics to teach players to implement them themselves such as timing switchs and dd to weapons swap. and attack and duck back under the player.

I had a plan for this exact thing years ago when the only way you could do non risking/practice PVP was Clan wars, but the problem was maxed raggers going after everyone just to be a dick, and also you had to use your own pots/weapons which wasn't helpful either and I don't know why they didn't just add crates but just glad we finally have something like this.

hope they really consider adding a pretty steep requirement to join the ranked mode. With how easy it is to get a bond on a fresh character and the fact that you can select your stats it would make smurfing become a problem

I really like the alternate character system. I've wanted to have a sort of character select for a while now and these seems to be a step in that direction. It would be great if I could have a HCIM character, PVP Chracter and my Main all under one login.

Never cared for PVP on OSRS, but this seems really cool. And for the PVP Mainers, I think Jagex has actually done a fantastic job coming up with this. Now all the PVPers can flex their skill in ranked. Might even try this tbh

Unfortunately the armor failed the poll, so it is not sold in the rewards shop. It is only usable in the arena.

Considering some of the armor appears, they'll probably integrity change it so it can be purchased for use outside of the arena. So think of a hybrid of Trove parchment, and ornament kit. Because Jagex don't want a repeat of Kurasi where you just had a decent piece of gear that was ultra cheap to replace if you died.

All I want is 2009-10 wildy BH culture back, especially after trade restrictions and EP% was removed. So much pure pking, multi north of GE was hot, north of edge was absoutley packed and I even miss the summoning tanks. Also those pkers really helped the economy, it created great value for maxed pure and zerker gear. Bring back good BH and pure multi pking again, good times.

As someone who has never done any PVP, this seems pretty cool. I really like the design and the options for ranked/unranked/tourney. I know people are complaining that "there aren't any rewards" but this replaces the Duel Arena, which had literally zero rewards. This is superior to the Duel Arena in every way

I've been saying they need something like this for years, finally gives players a chance to practice without risk, the worst thing for new pkers atm is going into the wildy and only finding experienced players who just kill you easily and its a pretty steep price to pay to learn how to pk, let's hope this gives pvp a boost it needs

Yes, the majority of people simply avoid pvp because the requirements for battle are such a steep cliff. Take a noob with melee, magic, and ranged at levels 60 to 70, for example. and then you're just rolling when you face up against a pure with maxed combat stats in the stuff they use.

This system reminds me of Elite Dangerous' CQC Arena, mode. Its got the same general gist, and you can queue into it from the main game and get taken out to join your match. Only problem was it didnt have much content, and not too many people engaged with it, so it got abandoned by Frontier.
