One campaign, many years ago, my one mercenary decided to go for a walk. He disappeared into the jungle & spent an in-game year or so training. Perhaps with a brief break to recruit like-minded individuals who'd work for free. With idealism fueling the cause, money wasn't an issue. A few disappointed/angry mails were sent by our client, but you can't rush a guerilla war. When the time was right, a godlike character best described as a hybrid Rambo/McGuyver emerged from the wilderness & liberated the island almost single-handedly.

Dude, what are you talking about? OG Xcom had overwatch on by default on EVERYONE as long as you had some TUs. The lack of covers and incredible high lethality of combat necessitated camping and grenade lobbing, and the stupidity of the AI basically made them advance in pod-sized groups anyway. I agree that Firaxis' game is rather dull in its vanilla state, but Long War fixes a lot of issues about it and even more in my opinion. Still, a lot of changes were necessary, and you'd see that if you go play OG Xcom and compare them together. Jake Solomon (the designer) made a great decision to not try and replicate the lighting in the bottle that was the OG, because he knew that'd be impossible.

That was probably 20 or 21 years ago and we were both just 10 years old at the time so we did not know what we were doing for the most part but we still had a blast. Maybe 2 or 3 months since first starting this game I clicked right mouse button by mistake and BOOM - that was when we realised that you can actually spend more action points when aiming xD Yeah that was mind blowing, especially because we were just making potshots and could barely hit anything untill then xD Or that you can not only fight aliens in mines but that you can also apply their blood onto your armour and make it much much better ;D That was all before we had any internet so we were just two kids having a blast playing and sometimes finding out new features by chance :D Of course 've played it as a normal adult with my normal gaming brain and it was equally good game. It's my top 1 favourite game and it is ctiminally underrated. Happy to see someone cover it, maybe that will let more people know abut it and more people will start playing it again. We need to also consider the times... 'we' were in era where internet wasn't a thing and main source of fun was still playing outside and meeting with your buddies top tier activity so we mostly played to 'one life' going with 6 AIM guys that we can afford, hitting as many sectors of Alma/Cambria/Grumm or w/e was could be a challange at that time making sure we die before other buddies will come and tell us that there is a match or something else cool to do in large number of friends

It`s worth mentioning you can hire Larry through MERC (mid to late poll) and once he stays in a sector with a bar, he gets drunk and permamently loses a few dozens of skill points, as well as heath points poll if I remember correctly lmao
@Peptuck4 ай бұрын
IIRC he cleans up and goes back to normal after a while if you take him away from that sector. He does the same thing if you let him hold on to any medical items or other drugs too.

Oh my god, it's good to see your video again. My favorite moment in every month. Maybe any chance for Planescape: Torment video, one day? I have seen references to this game in your videos several times, I conclude that you value this great title at least half as much as I do. BTW I never played Jagged Alliance, but I trust your taste. You are my favorite gamer-KZbinr, and you are brother from fellow tribe! Slav power, it doesn't matter, Belarussian, Russian or Pole. Ah, those are not Browning Hi-Power pistols, but rather Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT) Automag III pistols. I could blather about those because they're pretty weird. They're this odd offshoot of the Auto Mag Corporation (AMC), known for their AMP-180, a rather different design of pistol, AMT's being more conventional scaled up 1911/Hi-Power style designs, and AMC's being that big pistol you see in the fourth Dirty Harry movie. Both are semi-automatic pistols designed for Magnum handgun cartridges. One of AMT's (many) pistols is the Automag III, chambered for 9mm Winchester Magnum (which is like the .357 Magnum revolver cartridge if you used a casing without the rim to make it easier to design a pistol magazine around it). AMT at one point decides that since the old .30 Carbine cartridge for the US M1 Carbine can fit in a pistol grip and is available very cheap, they should offer the Automag III chambered for it. Since the powder in the .30 Carbine cartridge is meant to burn through a comparatively long carbine barrel (a little more than twice the length), what you get is a very long and ungainly pistol which is *outrageously* loud and blasty at the muzzle, which is a funny novelty, but not nearly as powerful from a comparatively short barrel as 9mm Winchester Magnum. Both AMC and AMT had this fascination with stainless steel as a material, and they insisted on working with it for basically everything in spite of not being fully familiar with its properties (It's just like working with normal steel, right?). Their guns have a lot of common problems, particularly in the durability and reject rate of some parts. AMT made a 1911 clone called the "Hardballer", which because it had a frame and slide made from the exact same grade of stainless steel, could with enough use begin to exhibit galling issues (friction welding) making the slide not travel quite freely every time it recoils, leading to jams. This same issue happens on their Automag pistols too, which together with not unusual fitment issues is why AMT pistols can often require gunsmithing to be made to properly function. Keeping the slide rails on these pistols well greased (not oiled), prevents this from happening. They never made one for the 7.62mm NATO cartridge, though these are described as custom guns, so some whacky gunsmith somewhere in America made these 7.62mm NATO pistols, presumably by cutting a pair of the pistols apart and then rewelding them to create the extra long one, with an all new barrel for the 7.62mm cartridge (and then again for the second one). The resulting pistols would be even more loud and concussive, and the grip would feel even more like holding a large plank of wood than the Automags already do, and not have much better ballistics. These would be preciously impractical guns IRL, and considering the money they must have cost to make, a hilarious joke. He could no doubt have bought some nice old surplus M1 Garand rifles to arm all your mercs with, along with a crate of ammunition and clips to last, for less than what these goofy custom pistols probably went for.

Fun fact: in Back in Action, Dynamo's backstory is changed so that he was an ex-general guy (I think?) who protested a little too loudly when the Queen started killing women and children indiscriminately, so the Queen threw him in prison instead.

*_"Even against the redshirts, the rocket rifle is... disappointing."_* A realistic portrayal, the real life Gyrojet guns were really remarkably shitty weapons. As the rocket projectiles build up speed as they travel, there is virtually zero recoil, and they move very slowly when exiting the muzzle, meaning that in addition to being basically harmless at spitting distance, even _the tiniest_ wind movement or drop of rain will MASSIVELY disrupt the projectile's trajectory and offset it wildly. Most guns have their accuracy assessed by measuring how many inches wide a target group of five shots is at a distance of about 25yds for handguns, and 100yds for rifles, referred to as Minute Of Angle. 1MOA is considered very good (and even less is excellent), 4MOA would be considered acceptable for an infantry rifle, with 6MOA as bad, and 8MOA as terrible. The Gyrojet typically measured the size of its groupings not in inch, but in *feet,* as bad as 12ft at 30yds for the pistols, the rifles being modestly better. The guns themselves didn't have to bear any pressure to speak of, and were made accordingly, resulting in very lightweight weapons made out of inexpensive zinc alloy pressings and simple steel tubes as barrels to point the rockets with. This is of course offset by the atrocious performance of the rockets which can at best compare to an ok .45 caliber pistol in ballistics when in protected laboratory conditions, but with an extremely awkward reloading procedure, and ammunition which was very expensive even before they became curious collectibles. The little rockets were difficult to manufacture, and sometimes the jet vents weren't cut properly, meaning a rocket was sometimes _even less accurate than normal._ The Gyrojet was some very exotic outside of the box thinking, but it was completely inferior to contemporary weapons on a fundamental level. Inferior to even old US Civil War blackpowder relics, when you start thinking about it.

Man these videos are incredible. I never played JA2, but know of its greatness being a big fan of PCGamer in the 90s. I played JA1 when it came out but i was 10 and had no idea what i was doing, got it off a russian pc games pirate disc. You did an incredible job taking me through the game and i love your humor comrade. i love the mini history lessons and tangents you go on that really fill in the spirit of this time and game and development. it brings back fond memories. I discovered this channel several weeks ago and slowly working my way through your catalogue. we have similar taste and experience and even the games i never played or heard of are very entertaining to watch. i do hope you do a more complete video on Colony Ship. take care of your, friend

I usually got Steroid and Raven, plus Shadow or Reaper and (iirc) Ivan or Buzz. Later I would get a team of cheap mercs to just stay behind training militias. This game is a masterpiece in every respect. Brilliant plot and characters, with plenty of depth and personality, brilliant voice acting and dialogues, great soundtrack that doesn't get old, great game mechanics, great graphics and animations, a brilliant mix of intelligent sense of humor with unsettling drama... Everything in this game is just right. It's among the best games every made.

Loved playing this game when I was technically a bit too young to be consuming anything showing heads being blown off and prostitution. I got the Dutch 1.06 version from the bargain bin, and that offered amazing value for money. It was uncensored, showing the brothel in San Mona and the infanticide in the opening cutscene. To be sure, the stuff that was cut was relatively minor, but it's still sad that the censored version is on all the downloading sites, and the original will be forgotten over time. Unfortunately the Dutch 1.06 version also had the tendency to freeze when you threw a grenade, and it had Dutch subtitles that occasionally didn't make sense in any language. Still, good times were had by all.

Love him or hate him, Cleve's game is a masterpiece if you love old school games like Wizardry 7. And I know Elliott's abuse was intended as humorous as a joke, but it was a notable example of how men can be victims of abuse too, contrary to many opinions at the time.

This game is a gem. Bought one of those game collections in the mid-90s, fell in love with Deadly Games. Saw a review of JA2 in a magazine and wanted it so bad, but it was super hard to find a copy where I lived. Maybe two weeks after that my parents were out of town and my mom bought me a copy from some tiny computer store in another town as a birthday gift. Never mentioned her how much I wanted that game, and she still doesn't know it was probably the best gift she ever bought for me.
