I still don’t understand why you go 110/120 when the car is panicking, maybe go 60 if that happens. This was bound to happen
@jpinto3912

This video should just be used to show that when you see a fast charger when you're already less than 25% and your range isn't enough to make it back, charge it right now. The buffer is there, to avoid cell inversion permanent damage, not to be abused trying to keep at 120km/h.
@KineticEV
@KineticEV 3 жыл бұрын
Straight FACTS. You are spot on I thought I was the only one thinking this. I commented above about that. He nor anyone should never rely on that buffer. There's a reason why the car's GPS has a route planner that tells you where all the charging stations are and when you should consider stopping to charge. His WHOLE experiment failed.
@ichigo19870
@ichigo19870 3 жыл бұрын
@@KineticEV You guys do get that he literally tests these scenarios so that people know that could happen with this particular car so that "you" won't do the same mistake? Obviously he we wouldn't dare to do that with his own car on a normal trip but it's important to see how the car behaves and I am thankful that he pushes it to its limits

@KineticEV
@KineticEV 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, when you made it 3 hours in and had an opportunity to charge at that 2 stall unit before you turned around and came back you should have done that. There's a reason all these cars or even using A Better Route Planner exist in and for EV's. You have to use them. And you should NEVER rely on the phantom bottom out charge to get you anywhere regardless what the car is predicting. You now know that this car at about 15% goes into power consumption mode so that mean your buffer is 20% (5% 0ver their power save mode). Then you charge to 100% (road trips) and/or 80-90% (daily driving).

Kris, sorry this happened to you .. and good to know the iPace has major issues below 10-5% .. With that said I don’t like major corrected times .. truly best to redo the test base on the real world limits of the iPace meaning only plan for 100-10% or to 5% for range before charging is needed as you can’t go to 0% safely So you don’t the math and subtracting time from charging by adding buffer that may actually not even be a real buffer just made this test invalid.. Still what is learned is the iPace range max out at 5% safely and predict remaining range below 5% is not real and can’t be counted .. thanks for pushing the limits and I hope you always will ..(well on good weather days lol)
@The70s80scollection
@The70s80scollection 8 ай бұрын
I would try this again with a target of only charging up to 80%, when going all the way up to 100% on rapid charging the last 20% is painfully slow and is some cases takes almost as much as it was to charge to 80%. On a long journey that requires multiple charging stops, by only going up to 80% on some charge stops rather than 100% would almost half the total charging time and may only require an extra stop....worth trying just to see, that last 20% charge is so slow.

The screen shuts down when you’re running out of battery? What if you’re navigating to a charger? Who thought of that? Great video though :)

your test is a nice complement to Bjorn 1’000 km challenge, indeed in the 1’000 km challenge the result were rather disappointing but are better here with a smaller distance given the initial range is rather on the good side of things but charging is somewhat slow. Having both your test and Bjorn gives interesting perspectives. I also use ABRP to simulate holidays travels with various cars.

Great video. I think a good advice is never go below 5%, if you want to take care of the battery. Try to stay between 20-80% on daily basis, of course on long trips it's needed to stretch this, but not under 5%... But I like these videos, but you should ad a recommendation maybe in text in the video how to drive a BEV.

If I had 10km on the screen and 12 km to run for the charger, I would reduce speed to 50-60km/h, turn off lights, only with DRL on, turn off climate and use battery saving mode that turns off screens.. But riding 120km/h with climate when you have only 5km on the screen was very risky.

Interesting that the time in summer conditions including running out of juice and having to get recovery out and get towed to a charger is pretty much the same as doing the trip in heavy rain in 3-7C temperature. The weather really makes a massive difference in travel time on long journeys in these big EV SUVs. Thanks for trying out what everyone else like to avoid Mr 0% SOC.

Yes exactly, dealers talking crap as always and stories from US of jaguar ndas on lemons doesn't instill confidence in the brand. I so want an ipace but don't trust Jaguar one little bit. In contrast Hyundai recalls the kona for battery replacements. May have to consider ioniq5.

Li batteries are great but they have one disadvantage to lead acid. They dont recover at all. In the "lead age" we could run out of juice, but if the car stopped you just stay for about 15 minutes then you were able to go for about 5 km more. But this dont you young guys know. Otherwise a nice video.

I expect the new Audi Q4 AWD will be 20k less than this. I like Jags but they are really in the end over priced and have a reputation for having more problems than other manufacturers. It just doesn’t make sense to buy one of these. You just know those guys picking you up were laughing at you the whole way. LOL. Don’t go to zero. LOL. Check.

Good to experience that, I suppose! Shows the i-PACE just needs a few tweaks to range and ‘low power’, as it’s unfortunately not quite competitive enough on the longer runs. Shame, cus it’s a gorgeous car. Let’s hope Jaguar address this for the mk2 and give that car a better range and recharging capability.

DNF is DNF in my book. Disqualified. That sounds like the battery management system should normally tell you that you are down to 0% when you are really at the point before the lithium battery drops off a cliff (say 5-10%?) and this time it didn't alert you before it really was at a true 0%. BAD! Sorry you had that experience.
