ExRE_Sapper My primary vehicle is a 2017 Passat B8 - The infotainment system and dash (Active info display) is VERY responsive. My inlaws have had a 2015 Tesla S 85, and now a 2016 P90DL, so I´ve used Teslas system quite a lot. It was sluggish at first, but the responsiveness is much better now. I have yet to try the new updated hardware though - I´ve heard that improves the experience as well.

So why not just use your phone instead. Awlays what I do. No matter how 'wow' a car system I just never use it. Just mount my smartphone on a holder..it's familiar, it's fast, it's slick ,it's mine...no network connection charges or sign up neither. As long as you can bluetooth into the car sound system and the audio is good one (which this one is) I have never had a problem with this approach.

@@Grammostola Never found any better system and I drive Audi, BMW, TEsla. Unsurprising - none can compete with years of experience and many billion$ that have gone into development of Android and Samsung (same with Apple I suppose). Smartphone suppliers are *all* about infotainment. But car manufacturers focus on making cars and not infotainment systems. They will likely never be equivalent. And if the infotainment system costs $2-4k on each car (which I doubt) I am not going to use it just because I feel I have to get my moneys worth, if the system does not compete with my phone's own. That said the car's integrated audio hardware - as regards amplifier, speaker and anciliary sound features are another matter. There it's very important to know how much development has gone in and what quality is like. p.s. To further prove my point.. Think of the best car infotainment system you have ever used - if you could, would you download and overwrite your smartphones OS with that system? I'd be interested if someone said yes - but I very much doubt it.

I suspect the delayed accelerator response from zero is to prevent sudden unintended acceleration issues that have plagued EVs like Tesla. People accidentally push on the pedal, it instantly jolts forward, and they've caused an accident.

@Mari0o0o
@Mari0o0o 6 жыл бұрын
ebzdyberybencjusz sadly, it’s even worse. The consumption is worse than a MX, price can be higher than a S depending on location and options, and arguably the interior is less useful/optimized than the 3. It’s a great step in the right direction for traditional manufacturers but it just shows how much they have to play catch up.

I'm a huge Tesla fan, and I own a Model S. With that in mind, for many people, a car like the i-Pace will be far more appealing. Tesla's interior is fine, but Jag know how to make beautiful interior. The 'lack' of space won't be an issue for most, since if you compare it to an ICE, it's at least en par. Actually the exterior size of the i-Pace is closer to the e-Pace, but the interior space is more like the F-Pace. Space is not that important for everyone. And personally I think the i-Pace looks fantastic. I prefer the Model S, but the i-Pace beats the Model X in my eyes. I won't be buying an i-Pace anytime soon. But I can certainly see why people would buy it over a Tesla. People really should stop thinking of all these new EVs as Tesla competitors. There is plenty of room in the market. Think of all the different ICE vehicles available, and the difference price ranges between models and brands. People should really be comparing EVs with their ICE counterparts. This is a more useful comparison.

One of the funniest reviews I’ve ever seen - a real comedy of errors- very watchable. Looks like the cats got you by the tail... It would be good to give some credit to JLR. Who would have predicted it would be Jaguar to produce the first true premium EV from Europe that is already sold out of two years production before any real public presence or advertising. Kudos to Jaguar for the landmark achievement. It’s it’s own thing - not a direct copy of the S or X - it’s a European EV fundamentally- appropriate size and capability in line with European roads, lifestyles & preferences.

The glitch with the language settings is a clue. I would speculate that the MCU software is not integrated. There seems to be at least two operating systems (or two apps) controlling the functions, so they are not aware of each other's language settings. I've seen this on many mcu/infotainment systems. Instead of being developed as a single operating platform, the individual functions are developed or sourced separately, then "integrated" on the console. The console just windows the separate functions. It harkens back to the MSDOS days when each application had its own unique interface, unaware of the other apps and OS. This is one of the reasons why this is not a Tesla killer.

Wondering about all the haters and Tesla fan boys with disrespectful comments on the Jaguar I-pace here!! For many years i have been thinking about buying a Tesla (model 3), but my doubt in Tesla build quality and lack of Tesla workshops and waiting for parts (Norway), made me uncertain. Also i got "furious" when the Tesla dealer told me when I'm asking about the model 3, that i had to go for model S, because model 3 is way to small. This without knowing my needs. The "big advantage" for Tesla is the charging network and Autopilot. I like what Tesla started and still doing, but very much appreciate that Jaguar and Audi (E-tron) now are following after on the EV marked. Think we for sure could agree that both Audi and Jaguar know how to build a car, and that they also most likely know how to make a good EV. Drum drum....I have ordered the I-Pace ;-), and really looking forward getting it in January 2019. Have driven the model S and tested the I-Pace, I'm sure the driving experience in the I-Pace are not any worse. Regarding the slow infotainment system, lack of 100 KW charging networks, software issues and available 100-120 KW charging on the I-Pace, this will hopefully be solved in the beginning of next year. I-Pace build quality and driving experience should be and are expected to be 100% perfect. ;-) And maybe in 5-10 years, I'm driving one or another EV model of Tesla or Audi? Cause all mentioned here are good EV cars in their own way.

I prefer the look of this to the Tesla Model 3, and the interior, but the infotainment looks so laggy, even the RPM needle seemed to have a slow refresh rate. Jaguar definitely need to invest more in faster infotainment with more intuitive UI. It’s one of the key components with modern cars, whereas before it was just an add on.

@Mark Portch Not surprised you've seen 30 "top marks" reviews! FullyCharged even did one, but strangely, unlike their usual responding to people on youtube they completely ignored any vaguely critical comments, and it's only now that we're starting to get honest reviews of the iPace! The truth is, Jag has paid top dollars to do razzle dazzle media publicity stunts, including flying "journalists" out to Portugal to "review" it. Most of the time the "journos" had "minders", both driving the car for them, and fully controlling where they could drive and what they could say, hardly seems honest and open to me! The fact is, Jag isn't a software company, and unless an auto companies a software company first and foremost, I wouldn't be buying a car off them! As we all know, cars are fast becoming "computers on wheels", so I dare say we need a "computer" company to be designing them, not some old scott flying high who thinks he invented the wheel but is clueless about basic aerodynamic and design principles (yes, I'm referring to Ian Callum!)!!

The infotainment system runs on a quad core Intel Atom CPU (probably Z3735F or Z8300) and should be fine, if they optimize software. Seems like poorly timed animations and other GUI sillyness is happening on it.

Why the heck they all place the charge ports in strange places?? Like that I-Pace or (even worst) the new Leaf?? Do they think that EVs are strange and so they place the charge port in even stranger places? Why they don't do that like every other fossil car in the rear left or right?? Like, for example, Tesla

The idea of fake engine noise is not something I understand. One thing I like about EVs is how quiet they are.

That consumption....not very efficient. I wonder how are they gonna be able to fix that with just a software update. And that entertainment system could use some serious redesign and optimization.

Let's give Jaguar a break, it's their first EV. I think they'll do better on the updated versions and of course even the following generation I-Pace. They need to fix a lot of things and they will, over time.

M20B25 User - just remember- that’s just marketing cliches & hyperbole. The car is rock solid and a landmark achievement from a European car maker. Tesla wants s competitive car market for EV’s and now it’s finally arriving.

Pros - Head-up display - Used materials for the interior - Quiet ride - Nimble steering wheel Cons - No infrastructure - Software updates seem to be not for this car (esp. regarding the speed of UI, seems like they use a slow computer) - UI is a shitty joke, just terrible - Buttons - Autopilot is crap Didn't I miss anything?

Cons: - It’s cramped for an SUV (its a compact crossover at best) - It’s interior already feels dated (done on purpose by JLR to connect to their heritage) - It’s technology (driver assist functions) is dated - No 3 phase charging - Cannot sit in your car while charging, need to stand outside... - Efficiency is / range is crap (compared to what was officially stated, even after the recent downward correction by Jaguar) - Apple Carplay (or Android) not supported (was supposedly coming but now removed from website) - Boring colors - Boring exterior

Nice video; first impressions are sometimes best. The sluggish infotainment system is something noticed by other testers. Dutch Autoweek said also: why is Tesla able to put in a quick and responsive system and other manufacturers not? Must say that my Ioniq looks more responsive than the Jaguar. Hope they can fix something in a software update, but this is not a system for 2018. Consumption is very high especially when I compare it with a Kona. Probably the price you have to pay for big tires and four wheel drive. Lets wait for the full test, and see if you can get one with the updated software. (btw: looking forward to the drive with the Kia Niro, Jag is too expensive for me)

I know - I saw the video :) Doesn't change the fact that making fake noises is something children do when playing with cars and that I think it is a really odd thing for grown adults to essentially do the same - or at least that Jaguar thinks that this is something their customers would like :D

C911able I think some people switching from ICE to EV may appreciate it. I will miss the sound of my petrol engine, at least initially, so would be open minded about what jaguar have done here.

For the first version of the model of the car I feel that Jag has focused on the looks, drive, and performance of the car itself, they do after all know how to make a car! Unfortunately, it seems that the in-car entertainment system could do with some improvement, general UX and seemed to lag a little. Give it a few revisions and hopefully, that entertainment system should improve! Cars tend to struggle sometimes with their entertainment sometimes, different rentals I've been in have different pros/cons it seems that none are 100% perfect all the time. A real shame that it feels cramped, strange considering I thought it was meant to be a big car... other than that and all sorts of lag, it seems alright! Worth £60K? I dunno about that yet. On another note, stop recording while driving you crazy fool! :P you'll end up hurting someone :o strange that you had the mount for the camera but didn't use it? :S
