Update January 2020. Since making this video we bought an I-Pace from Kentdale Jaguar in Cumbria. We couldn't afford not to. We studded the UK energy market and switched energy supplier and now have a fantastic electricity tariff. Believe it or not, Green Energy is cheaper and better for the environment. If we had been with our new energy supplier at the time of making this video, the cost of our journey would have been a fraction of what we calculated.
The 2 links below will give you information on our new electrical tariff of 5p per Kwh . Use the second link to switch and you will get £50 of your bill:

Jaguar I-Pace is extremely cheap to run when you consider it has the power of 400 horses driving this 4 wheel drive supercar. So what is the cost of running this all new electric car? We break down the cost of its electricity and give you it as a per mile number. We also show you how to charge an electric car at home from a 3 pin electrical socket and an electric extension cable. Please note, when using a cable drum extension lead, it should be completely unwound to avoid overheating.
Our test of the Jaguar electric car was conducted in a mountainous area, on motorways on A and B roads to test this electric vehicle under every driving condition we could find, in or 3 day test drive, for this in depth review.
Jaguar ipace is classed as being an electric suv but it could also be classed as an offroad vehicle, because of its 4 wheel drive capability. We need a new category of car to put this car in.
We want to thank Kentdale Jaguar of Kendal Cumbria for the use of their I-Pace.

I wanted to ask if the trunk space roomy for luggage or quite compact? I am considering going to see it for myself. Such a beautiful SUV. Thank you for your review.

Sorry there is a bit of misinformation given! You do not have to LOCK the car whilst charging as the car detects the charger has been plugged in and a solenoid activates and the plug cannot be pulled out of the car. Even if you turn off the charger at the mains, you cannot unplug the charger from the car. You have to press the key fob to unlock the car - usually twice - to release the plug. This has to be done even if the car isn't locked! You correctly said that an extension cable should not be used. As 3Kw (The equivalent of an electric kettle) will heat up both the thin (1.5mm2) cable and the plug and socket. if you HAVE to use an extension cable, make sure it is FULLY unwound off the drum, but it is far better to use a long extension cable not on a drum, made with 2.5mm2 cable and the best quality plug and socket on each end!

Hi Ian. Thank you for the information. Ian you could have added that on high powered chargers like the ones at the Morrisons Stores. You need to stop the charge session at the charger for the CCS plug to disconnect. I plugged my I-Pace in at one of these chargers to check the length of the lead and the charger locked on. If this happens to you, you can press the unlock fob 3 times, then the Type 2 CCS plug disconnect. We all live and learn.

@@UsefulWisdom The interlock is there to stop you from unplugging when the car is still charging. 10 amps is bad enough but 32 amps it can create a quite a spark! With DC it gets even worse! 400 v and umpteen amps! By double or triple clicking unlock on the key fob you are telling the car to stop charging and taking shutting down the voltages that are present. One trick on Podpoint Tesco chargers if the cable gets stuck in the Podpoint charger is to leave it plugged to the car and click the remote fob 5 times! This will release the cable from the Podpoint. The two small pins in the Type 2 plug carry low voltages and some basic code to manage charging etc.

I'm from Yorkshire and I found it hard to hear and understand what was being said; mostly down to max volume being too low, I think, but still enjoyed the video .

Hi Norman, I can't understand why your volume is low. I am form Cumbria and used to hearing when it is windy, that is most of the time. 🙈🙉🙊

So, 2.3 miles per kWh. That is quite low- but then the iPace is known to be not very efficient... Teslas and Ioniqs are nearer 4.

Hi Mike. I have never tried driving a Tesla around the Lake District. One things is for surer, it won't go as far as it could on a flat test track.

Hi Ivan. It is a fact that Electric Vehicle chargers and EVs (including the Jaguar) communicate in a digital language they both understand. The car has to know what power is being sent to it, so it can have the correct relays open. In this case it is accepting 230 volt AC. However if we were where connecting it to a 100 Kwh DC charging station, the car would open different relays before allowing the charger to switch on and it would not go BANG!

@@UsefulWisdom thank you for this reply. I have not used EV before and was charging the i pace today for the first time. I just wanted to make sure I do it right and your video was very helpful! Thank you!

Hi @@ThatOneCEO . Good choice of car Sir. After making this video with a demo vehicle (from Kentdale Jaguar) we had to buy one. We have had it for 18 months and the more we learn about it, the better it gets.

Those are the variable cost. If you add on the fixed costs you will see the cost of purchase and high depreciation.. You need to include whole life costs over a three year period. And then you will see you are totally mislead..The opportunity costs could also be included. Waste of time... sorry...over simplified..

Hi muddymarvellous, what we are talking about is the cost of running an I-Pace, once you have bought one. The servicing costs are less because there is less to service. The miles per money spent on electric is less that miles per gallon spent on the equivalent 400 Brake Horse Powered car. It is cheap to run. Granted it comes with a premium price tag but it is a luxury car. 😀

Your not an accountant, gives and variable cost whole life procurement costs. I would be interested to see all the costs based upon a PCP plan

Hi @@muddymarvellous. No problem, just visit any Jaguar showroom and the Sales Staff will work it out for you. There are so many options that change the price. Do you want air suspension, do you want adaptive cruse control etc, the list is almost endless. 🤔

Just as I thought you haven't a clue, your both in this for number one, your comments are patronising.. don't wish to sound rude here, you have no grasp of procurement, no idea of finance, and to cap it all can't spell cruise control..hasta la vista baby.....I'm out..

Hi Muddy, the Jaguar's I-Pace price has so many variables, with all the extras you can have, the only way to find out its cost is to give your wish list to a sales man. We have been talking about the running cost in this video. Que tengas un buen día.
