I have 2001 Jaguar XJ8 first the restricted performance error and now the gear box fault / it goes on reverse but its doesn't goes on drive and if it does it stalls out when I put it on drive and try to give it gas.. I changed the transmission filter and oil..

I just bought a gorgeous white 2000 and the transmission is the only ?...........it hits pretty hard at takeoff sometimes enuff to startle yeah a little but hooked up nicely for racing ..........is this heavy lunk of it going into first a sign of bad future tellings?

Underneath the steering wheel on the left wall is your transmission control module. I had the same problem with all kinds of codes. I took the tcm out took the cover off and took the board out. The pins on the chip had corrosion, bridging from one pin to the next. Used electronic cleaner from Walmart and a tooth brush to clean it. Transmission codes were gone immediately. Water runs down into the tcm so I would recommend you waterproof it somehow.

@@rmark1083 I'm currently having the same issue right now with my 1998 Jaguar v8 4.0L Vanden Plas. I replaced the battery and everything and now I have a P1643 and a 'Gearbox Fault' message. Shifting has always been clunky in low gears, otherwise everything is real smooth. Trans Filter and trans oil changed recently as well. I will take your advice and take out the TCM and clean everything internally and I'll put dielectric grease on the cable connections. I will do the same on the ECM. @@blinkingdots1243 the tcu getting wet was very common in the x types causing multiple codes that didn't add up. Yours sounds like something not associated with the tcu getting wet. I encourage you to sign up over at the Jaguar fourms as they can help you a lot. Numerous Car Purchases that had Codes Galore illuminated, either a Very Weak Battery or Perforated Vacuum lines. Check the Basics out first before heading into the Sea of major components issues. PS. avoid major fuel problem issues by keeping an eye on the Fuel Filter replacement intervals.

In my 2003 v6 s type that is a pcv valve. I have to order one. Comes out by quarter turn twist. Mine has vacuum leaks, shifter needs replacement, need valve cover gaskets (bought at the auction). Who knows what else. And maybe a couple serious recalls, one is that the rear tires can lock while running

i had restricted performance on my s type r i took the car to many mechs they couldnt find the issue i had many missfires too replace many ignition coils about 6 and the problem was still there, ,,,i have many codes most of them ignitions coils, and oxygen sensors,so i replaced the oxygen sensor and the problem is fixed,,, i reaplaced my self,,,

When you made the fix did the restriction performance code turn off on its own or did you have to reset it yourself. I believe I have solve my problem but the restriction performance code is still on but the car drives perfectly

@@Rebelsmic I’m not sure which one he did but I’m just suggesting that if you replace one you might as well replace the other. So I would replace both at the same time so that you don’t have the same problem down the road when the other one fails

Mine is a 2000 XK8 The idiots at American Imports said I needed an entire new engine! Would this issue effect the air compression as well?

Mine is a xk8 2000. The last code I new of was that performance restriction. She was just dead in the driveway. The local auto place said she only had 30#’s of engine compression. Then the “American Imports” said I needed a new engine. Are these guys just crazy or what…..? She only has 86,000 miles on her. This is crazy. What do you think I should do?
