Nice car, but you made the right decision. Cars like that are fine for owners when new, as they can clearly afford to run them properly. Once at that age though, and with that mileage, and that size engine, they're best avoided - Unless you simply want to polish it, or store it away as a future collectors piece. Not all Jags are expensive to run though. I have a 9 year old 2.2 XF, 32,000 miles, my daily driver, and it costs no more to run than a typical family car. Service it myself, and always will search out the best deals on parts, so all is well. I'm enjoying your 12 Days Of Christmas Countdown, and waiting to see what car you buy during the holidays👍.

In the summer, of the way out of a motorsport event, there was a chap with a V8 S-Type with a loud exhaust (and the non-chrome grille etc) and lowered suspension which did look suitably mean (a modern interpretation of a 60s gangster car perhaps.....)

I have a X reg. S Type. 98k. 3.0L. Tax lower that facelift model of 2001 on. See my vid on S Type petrol consumption, 200 mile round trip at 40mpg at steady 60-70 mph. Been well serviced and each service about £250 same as any car. Drive is smooth and powerful, 240bhp and 0-60 a bit quicker than facelift model. Love running about in it and so different to most stuff on the roads these days.

The modern S Type Jaguar was always a quirky model in the lineup in my opinion, perhaps a little too ‘retro’ in its looks. Even, dare I say, a little awkward. As a Jaguar fan, I’ve never owned an S Type but never really desired to. So totally understand your decision to let yours go Jon. And at least you made a profit from its sale! Amongst many Jaguars I’ve owned over the years, I bought a 2002 X Type 2.1 SE manual back in 2014 from its original owner and I still continue to own and enjoy it to this day. It hasn’t proved disastrous in running costs and has been extremely reliable. A good drive too being a V6 with a manual gearbox. The X Type is another rapidly disappearing model, perhaps you should try an X Type sometime Jon? Really enjoying the series by the way!

S-Type? Meh. Old-man-car styling, the incessant "Jaaaaaag" thing. No thanks. The engine however... Ford Duratec (Porsche+Cosworth designed) V6 derived engine. Very good power output but some problems with oil scavenging on fast corners, causing oil starvation on the bearings. Fixable though. The engine is popular for fitting into the MX-5, where it is slightly *lighter* than the Mazda 4 cylinder, whilst being considerably more powerful and pushes the mass further back.
