Thanks for this. Knowing why is great. My battery ran down and I trickle charged but didn't disconnect it and got this issue. I disconnected the battery and reconnected and the fault was gone. So the module may have got corrupted but it did reset on completely powering down the car.

I got stranded in the City last year - same symptoms. What I did was disconnect (and reconnect) the three plugs on the left-hand side of the module, (module in situ). Problem went away and car started. Theorising that (1): pins on connector were tarnished, and reseating connectors burnished contacts. This is a common problem with circuit boards. Or (2): powering down module reset it back to normal. It's worth a try before removing module.

Very good video, thank you. I have this intermittently, but if I press lock/unlock, on the fob the indication goes away. Also, two or three times a month, the car (an automatic) will idle very slowly then stall when pulling away at a junction. Do you think this too could be a problem with the BCM?

I have the "Smart Key Not Found" problem with one of the keys on my 2010 XF it won't unlock the doors or boot either but when I insert the key into the slot at the bottom of the dashboard it starts the car! The other key works fine starts the car and locks/unlocks doors etc. I am assumimg the problem is with the one key rather than the ECM. Have tried changing the key battery but hasn't worked. I'm not sure if the non-working key needs to be reprogrammed or whether it needs to be repaired - any thoughts? Thanks

You probably would need both ecm and matching key

Hello I currently have a 2012 jaguar XF 5.0L I recently purchased that’s having the same issue with the key and one thing I noticed was some of the key fuse spaces were missing so is it possible I have the wrong fuse for my car? Or could something like that be repaired

Hi - I live in USA and mine is 2014 Jaguar XF 3.0L SC. I started getting Unable to find smart key message during rainy days when car would be out sitting on driveway, then it would go away when sun came out. Couple of weeks ago car did the same but did not start even after sun coming out. I took it to dealer in USA and this is what they said : Found codes B102B-87 and B1B01-55key transponder not configured. Upon further inspection found there is corrosion inside BCM. Recommend replace the BCM. New BCM(just part) is $3.5K. The dealer said BCM is built for your car VIN so you cannot buy a used one. I'm hoping my BCM is not completely dead or I can find a used BCM and replace ? Any advise you can give . Thx. The car has new battery and both remotes also have new Duracell battery. So its definitely not the battery

Hi, you can buy a second-hand BCM AND clone, your old one.

I had the red battery symbol. And it’s a wire that connects to the battery monitor. It’s right on top of the battery. Look for a loose, broken, or disconnected wire.

I used to be a mechanic , but 38 years ago, unfortunately I became disabled with arthritis so cant do my own repairs any more, and can only drive an automatic Problem is Im a new Jaguar XF diesel owner from tomorrow. Its a 1998 model but done a load of checks its looks like a new car inside and out transmission and engine is quieter than my old BMW323i Im trading in. But all my life used normal keys of course. This model hasnt got a normal ignition key. I have no idea how to use it, ?? do I put it on my house key ring when leaving vehicle. seems wierd. I dont know this slot yet. I have no idea once it starts if you remove the gadget?? some said it just has to be in the cubby hole in centre console not in the slot shown. I have no idea. worried!! at 72 im not used to this. maybe you can point me to a tutorial on how to use this funny key thing that look like a normal alarm on and off but seems more complicated than that. I disconnected my battery took it to AutoZone to get tested. The battery was perfectly fine. I connected it back to my car and the car is not detecting the key I have had a locksmith come out and said both my keys are programmed to the car but the car is still not reading the keys, I really don’t know what to do and if anyone has answers, please let me know it’s a 2013 jaguar XF
