If they are stretch bolts it is better to fit new ones which should have thread lock ready applied to them. The copper washer is usually an expanded one which allows it to be compressed and make a seal as the flat ordinary copper washers are not designed for that purpose. It does work as you point but how long it will last I am not sure. Not sure what is on this Jag though. Had one recently on a MB which needed a helicoil and shortened bolt. It had an incorrect copper washer fitted, a plain flat one, and it had been leaking for a long time, leaving the black death stuff all over the place! Ended up cleaning and refacing the four injector seats with new seals and bolts. Nice vid.

This is a very very well known issue with Mercedes they called it “Black Death” on the CDI engines my E class had them go twice second time round I used another Mercedes specialist who used Honda injector seals they’re slightly thicker and the material was better quality. You have to catch this issue before it gets too far as it builds up and become a right pain to remove the carbon build up!

Ah, the good old leaking injector seals ploy . . . ! At least it was not cylinder 4. Jag's should have petrol engines anyway!
