I heard there seem to be a lot of issues with the 2015 - 2019 TDV6 engines on those XJs. Oil dilution due to too often DPF active regens. Anyone had that issue or knows more? Many thanks in advance!
@themilesdriven2 жыл бұрын
Hi, we've pinned you're comment to the top to help others find it. When researching we didn't hear of any particular rises in oil dilution but hopefully some owners will come along and help out with some more info 👍
@themilesdriven2 жыл бұрын
You caught us just as we were releasing another video so it was good timing 😁.The problem here looks to be the number of incomplete regens as this is what then causes diesel to enter the sump. Added to low journey times. Frustrating that Jaguar didn't fit a light to warn owners if their vehicle was regenerating and not to be shut down. A tell-tell on some vehicles is high idle speed. The answer could be to see if a device that gives the driver a warning exists in the aftermarket, something as simple as a small light would do it. In theory, assuming a complete DPF regen every time then oil dilution shouldn't occur as the excess diesel will be burnt in the DPF regen process.

@@themilesdriven I'm getting about 5,000 miles/5 months between oil services instead of 16,000/1 year on my 2018 3.0TDV6 - and that's even with taking it on a decent run every week or two. At the moment I also have an irritating 'vibrating hum' from the front on rougher road surfaces - going to the dealer to investigate. Initially thought tyres, but they've all been replaced and it's still there. However, still absolutely adore the car.
@themilesdriven2 жыл бұрын
@Mark Fendley The 3.0 Diesel engine on later models has interested us recently due to these short oil change interval reports. Several Land Rovers use the same unit and don't appear to have a common threat of issues. Although maybe we have missed them. We're wondering if there could be a retrofit resolution using an LR part, this might be worth questioning on the Jag forums as it's possible someone may own both and has already discovered a possible answer. All the best at the dealer, hopefully, the vibration will be a simple resolution 👍

@@950s Certainly does!! Just done two trips from Belfast to Dublin and back this last week. Belfast to Aberdeen and back over the New Year festivities. Journeys were effortless - and brisk!!! Love the sound of that supercharged V8 when you prod the throttle. Overtakes between 50-70mph are savage in speed, something like 1.5 or 1.7 seconds if you use the paddles and get the gearing right, using Dynamic on the suspension setting and Sport mode on the gearbox. Even in everyday Drive mode the XJR 575 is fast! That said, its still a comfortable ride. Slightly harder than the Portfolio models, probably more to do with the fact that the XJR 575 takes its engine, transmission and suspension from the F-Type SVO models. Top Gear likened the XJR 575 to a thug in a suit. I wholeheartedly agree, just love the sleeper aspect of this car. Catches so many people out. Service was carried out a few months ago, with absolutely no problems. Likewise the annual MOT inspection threw up a clean bill of health with no advisories at all.

Just sold my 23 Tesla Model S and bought a 19 Jag XJL V8 Supercharged. Never again with the crap Tesla puts out. Completely died and coasted to a stop on the road and no hope to restart it. Took 3 weeks for Tesla to fix. Found out this failure on new Tesla’s is common. The Jag is amazing and they have never let me down like that! So you dumped a year-old Model S in favor of a five-year-old XJR? That sounds about right. I’m trying to come up with any part of the driving experience where the Tesla is competitive with the Jag, but no, it is simply no contest. And that just makes the demise of the XJ all the sadder to us Jaguar fans who are aware of the unfair demonization of this great brand when for more that 20 years the XJ has been a paragon of British engineering and production: fast, reliable, and dead sexy. The last-gen XJ discussed here gives away nothing to an S Class or the BMW equivalent. But Jaguar’s fate was sealed even before, back in the 90s, Ford spent billions resurrecting the brand. I owned three X308 series XJs over the years and loved each. If I wasn’t old and retired, I’d have a current XJ in my garage as my “forever” car. It is difficult to imagine a rival to this Jag being designed and produced so near the close to the demise of the gasoline engine. But then again, given the many disappointments in the ownership of EVs, I could see American luxury car buyers pressuring the government to keep open the gas-powered version of the luxury brands. I mean, no body is going to stop Americans from heating the planet. Not gonna happen. We know now another 15 years will be needed to upgrade the power grid to build the nation-wide network of thousands of charging stations that will be needed. And at the end of the day, the luxury EV will STILL be unable to challenge this Jaguar. It wasn’t the EV that killed the XJ. It was the ghosts of British Leyland, the nightmare manufacturer that was allowed to produce shoddy cars for more than a decade, unforgivable, and that was the end of the British car industry. At least Jaguar is exiting the stage with its head held high.

@ The Jag is a dream. The only real reliability issue with the late models, like mine, is the plastic in the cooling system and the water pump seals that also can’t handle the up to 30 psi of the system. The simple solution is waterless coolant that has no water to create pressure or corrosion. So no more cooling system failure and no more coolant changes. I put waterless into all my cars now.

Currently own this a XJ 3.0 Diesel R Sport, and here are some of the issues (and fixes) I have encountered: - Engine management light flags up quite frequently - this is due to certain throttle bodies knackering out after 30,000 miles. Had mine replaced and its been perfect since. Cant say if itll flag up after another 30,000, but time will tell. - Oil dilution if you don't do alot of miles in the vehicle. Better off with a petrol if you dont do large number of miles in a year. I have only had this issue once as i didnt drive my car much during covid. I now have my car serviced yearly so cant say I have had this issue to date. - Internal squeaks and rattles - Sun roof issues were allegedly fixed with the face lift, but still needs some greasing to keep it whisper silent. Also the piano black door panels, if tampered with for say a door lock change, then they start to creak. Getting new ones from Jaguar cost a fortune. - Door locks are a little flimsy. Havent had to replace them on my XJ yet but I did on my XF. Not a hard job to do, but annoying that something like a door lock can feel so "french".

I'm looking at a 2011 Jaguar XJL That started with a battery boost and now only makes a clicking sound. Could be the starter but the title of your video caught my attention as this vehicle in question is up for auction and the price seems really low with very little time remaining. My question is should I take a chance on this beautiful car when there in no Jaguar dealer in my area for a long way and I'm not certain what garage I could trust it to where I live. I wish I had listened for timing chain noise when it was running. Actually I'm not sure if this 5.0 V8 has a belt or a chain. Anyway it will probably be sold before I see a reply. Nice video thanks for the info. Be well.

Hi, this will be the 5.0-litre so it is tough to advise if you are unsure on timing chain and don’t have anyone to work on it. These engines could possibly have a timing chain guide issue

@@themilesdriven there's a Ford dealer in town. But I think I will pass anyway because although Jaguar hold a place in my heart based purely on looks, I just don't really think they're responsible purchase for a guy like me looking to retire in 2 years and move to Thailand. Thanks for your reply.

@@truckn might as well live life because we only get so much time to not only do the things we want to do but to enjoy them physically mentally and emotionally as well. 2 years from now it could be hell on Earth so whatever options you have you should take them now because they will not be afforded to you in the future. I know Jags I'll just leave it at that. You should buy yourself an 04 through 09 XJR preferably with low miles with no accidents and full service history. If you're trying to save a few bucks you can get the first year and get a very reliable car that will reward you every day a surprise you many times with this capabilities, ask me how I know. If you want the best of the breed do 08 or 09. The engines are not overtaxed they're not pushed to the limits of their displacement and the engine was pretty much sorted out and you can find examples with $150,000 plus miles they have never been opened up and still purr without using a drop of oil. On these models make sure that the sunroof cartridge has all four of its drain line clear once or twice a year if it's not garage and then maybe just check once a year if it is. Electrical Gremlins are not typically an issue with these cars but if you do have something acting weird then pull up the rear lower seat section on the passenger side there's a wiring harness that may have gotten damp because of the aforementioned sunroof being blocked or not closing all the way and allowing water to run down over into the pillar and collects in that recess that is concave for the harness runs across.

Why is it that the most expensive cars are always the ones with the most mechanical and electrical issues, even with the brand new models of today and within the last 10 - 15 years. You'd think it would be the other way around. The 2011 - 2019 Jaguar XJ and the 2011 - 2015 BMW 7 Series are some of the nicest cars but have a bad history, especially the 7 Series. Mercedes S Class has had it's moments but it's usually not on the list. It's just amazing to me that so much time, effort, and money has been put into these vehicles with each generation but with each generation they have their own individual very costly failures. Costly failures that sometimes exceed the value of the actual vehicle.
@themilesdriven2 жыл бұрын
Good point. This is something we see in several of our buyer's guides. Likely the cause of a rush to have the latest technology. It will be interesting to see what the next generation of cars with two or three screens and legally required driver aids are like in 10-15 years. Thanks for your comment 👍

Don’t have these issues on a Lexus LS460, loads of 30 year olds LS400’s on the roads, tonnes of LS430 too, this is build quality.

I love the x351, but that is why I stay with the previous 4.2 Jaguars, they are bulletproof aside from maybe upgrading waterpump and thermostat housing, and keeping battery health. wonderful cars and shame the final xj was never offered with a 4.2 ZF6

why farewell? have they stopped making XJs?
@themilesdriven Жыл бұрын
Production ended in 2019 with no replacement planned as Jaguar spend their resources in making their entire range either electric or hybrid by 2025, the proposed plan for an electric XJ was axed in 2020 meaning no successor 👍 You can still find a few of the last generation registered in 2020 and 2021 as dealers slowly sold the last of 2019 built cars

The whole line of Jaguars were rejected by the buying public, due to their unfairly assigned reputation for unreliability.

Are they seriously not bringing out another xj?????
@themilesdriven2 жыл бұрын
Jaguar announced in 2016 a replacement would be made, which they confirmed would be an all-electric luxury saloon. Early in 2021 they then revered this decision and said the XJ would be axed, the official announcement read “Although the nameplate may be retained, the planned Jaguar XJ replacement will not form part of the line-up, as the brand looks to realise its unique potential.” We were also surprised at the time, but they have since said the XJ will not form part of their future. Maybe this decision will one day be reversed but as it stands the XJ is no more.

! Be aware of the 3.0 diesel engine! This is the Ford AJD V6 Engine used also in Landrover and Peugeot. There are many broken crankshafts as well as crankshaftbearing damages known. That is due to the slim design, that was planed to fit transaxially into some cars. This was able with thin cranshaftarms and only 4 Cranckshaftbearings, so you could get a totally engine damage anytime. Dont even think of Chip tuning or prolonged oil intervalls as well as cold engine Kickstarts. However even then Ou could have bad luck with an enginefail anytime.

As the owner of numerous Jaguar cars from a series 1 E-type, an `88 XJ6, XJ12 6.0, XJS 6.0, an XJ8L and an XKR I find the contemporary Jaguars to be hideous in styling and hardly differential from the average Buick or Asian sedan. I might add that Jaguars should not be powered by 4 cylinder engines. Sadly, like much in western culture today from art, music, decorum etcetera standards have declined disappointingly for aesthetics and style.

I have always loved Jaguars - especially the XJ models. Mine is a 351 Portfolio V6D 351 Portfolio with 48500k on the clock.black with light beige interior. It is both striking in appearances & very much a luxury car. Mine replaced my XJ6 350. This is likely to be the last car I will buy, owing to being a septuagenarian. Sad that this is the last of the XJ saloons, but it should last me - I always use premium fuel, and another tip; give the car a good run at least once a week, or you may find a very large amber warning light appearing. Thi inndicates DPF Full, ŵhich only means that carbon build up in a fuel filter or something like that, but not som7you should ignore.
