I used to watch this. For some time I was trying to find the name of the show and presenter, as I could not remember. Suddenly while trying to look for an old Jaguar race car, built for racing but never actually raced I believed. I just stumbled across this video.

@garymcaleer61125 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I've owned 2, '67 2+2s: early with glass; and late w/o glass: 11 inches longer than the coupe and roadster. Their hwy ride...sweet, 12 hours at a time. I wouldn't trade those memories for any Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Maserati.

Yeah Ive always said the same, except I never even liked the look of the E Type (I think I'm the only one) - I reckon they look stupid for some reason, but the XJ13 is the most perfect piece of automotive sculpture I have ever seen.

I was fortunate enough to see this actual car while it was in the States and visited Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut several years back. It was here for the annual Historic Festival. My friend and I at first glance assumed it must be a replica. When we got closer and read the info on it, we couldn't believe we were looking at the only example of the most beautiful Jaguar ever created. What a special treat it was!

@john.brailsford7088 Жыл бұрын
A beautiful car and wonderful sound, a beauty not spoiled by air dams. Malcolm Sayer wanted to have smooth airflow under the car to produce down-force (reverse aerofoil). Several test runs at Silverstone, the last in the Summer of 67 with Davis Hobbs (where I was present) showed the car to be too slow, although improving over several track tests, the XJ13 being a bit on the heavy side. I drew out a wing for it alà Chaparral which was never made as the project was cancelled. Incidentally, a comment from Malcolm Sayer about fast backs with slow fronts,- an E Type with hard top is more aerodynamic than the fixed head because of the sharp angle between the screen and the roof line on the FHC which breaks the air flow. Norman Dewis crashed the XJ13 (Lofty´s words) at MIRA some years later when filming a Jaguar press film.

When Alain says they purchased "the old" Coventry-Climax (and Walter Hassan and Harry Mundy w/ it) - this was a forklift/fire pump engine company. Mundy was the engineer who designed an aluminum engine for the British govt that would be lightweight and pump twice the amount of water of a typical fire truck pump engine. They debuted this engine (called the Feather Weight) at the London Motor Show and guess who was there? Colin Chapman of Lotus. They raced the thing and it even powered their production Lotus Elite and was called the FPE (Fire Pump Engine!). Hassan was no stranger to Jaguar, he was employed by them prior to the Coventry gig but when they were known as SS (the Swallow Sidecar Company). SS was not the name you wanted for your brand after WWII so they rebranded the company after the name of one of their models: Jaguar.
