I found that by putting rear end on car stands, then removing the four front bolts that retain the subframe on each side (in front of the rear wheels), that it was far easier to access the fuel lines and disconnect them. Gives you another inch or two. Once out, it's obvious that the sponge pad is what stops easy access. Agreed, it is a pretty simple job.

The first video i found where you didnt cut the damn panel above the tank
@axlejohnson91564 жыл бұрын
I don't believe this is good advice. This project has it's challenges. Taking this shortcut has it's risks. I've read a couple of comments on other videos. Where the fuel line broke when this was attempted. I plan on dropping my suspension about 3 inches, so I can get my fat arm up there to release these two fuel lines. It sucks, but it's the right was to do this.

Hello, thank you for the video. Didn't you break the connectors by doing this? Do you recommend disconnecting from below to avoid breaking? thank you, friend
@RedStarAuto11 ай бұрын
Hi, no I didn’t break connections but I did bent the lines, so you will need to be careful not to do so. Or bend them, pull it and cut the lines to extend them with a longer hose and clamps.

These are special connectors, right? I bought a set of plastic rings to take apart. Is it really under the car that needs to be removed? THANKS @@RedStarAuto

@@christopheguidemann6005 yes. And I think you need to the in between the rear subframe. It’s a pain ether way.

How hard was it to get the pump out? How did you break the fitting?
@RedStarAuto7 ай бұрын
Pump is easy, fitting is fine but I actually kinked the metal lines.

So I saw where it is good to disconnect the lines before pulling the tank. Are you saying that once you started it only took 20 minutes to get the tank out that far?

@@tainchains All is simple and quick - ONCE you have the Knack and the Knowledge I've just spent 5 hrs getting both = it will go back in 20 mins

What happens when one of the pressure lines on the bottom pops off? Just happened to me and there's no room to get to the lines above the Diff......cutting access through the firewall tonight
@RedStarAuto7 жыл бұрын
cutting will not help, I thought of it before... you have to war your way through the bottom, it's a bitch, but it has to be done. I did bent the fuel line, so I just had it replaced, but it wasn't the issue.
@RenegadeRX77 жыл бұрын
tolikz05 Well, I did cut it open. It left a ton of room to access the lines under the tank and you HAVE TO disconnect the feed line to pull the tank out that far or it pulls out of the socket and wrecks the clip. Luckily I was able to salvage the clip and snap the line back in. Possibly it's different on an R? I'm doing this on a non-R. I also found I didn't have to remove the rubber filler surround from the quarter panel. You can just push the filler down through as you wrestle the tank out and as soon as the filler clears the trunk opening you can put the cap back on and not spill fuel. I was in a rush and forgot to empty the 3/4 of a tank I had,but the cap held it in. I greatly appreciate your doing this video!

I bought 1994 Jaguar XJ6 that was my neighbor's after he died. It has been sitting for 3 years and I finally got it to crank and started it with some starting fluid. These cars are nightmare to work on. I cannot believe how poor the design is, like most European cars. Will never buy one again lol.
