I'm thinking of getting this car but especially the convertible, this video was what I needed to see. I've never had a fancy car, so buying it would be something very special for me

As far as I’m concerned Jaguar are in a class of their own. Beautiful cars.

Great video. Am thinking of getting an XK 4.2 and this is certainly pushing me further into going ahead with it!

The row of 3 buttons in the roof console are for you to code to your electrically operated gates. If your car has parking sensors, the button for those is housed there too.

Yes agree I have the same car but on 07 plate,it is a gt first, that's the appeal,no point in trying to catch it out it's a superb grand tourer averaging 28 around the town and 34 on a high speed run...brilliant and beautiful!

It's that dual nature that Jags have that makes them so special. I can waft around town and then enjoy the feedback on a decent B Road. Jag man for life!

I have a 2009 XKR-S, also with the 4.2 AJ-V8. Its a guided missile with a free armchair attached, my economy hovers between 16-20 mpg in mixed driving, around 25mpg on a run

@@toffeepie1878 I see your were a Subaru guy. Lovely 3.0R. I had a Impreza Turbo in 96' and what that car could do on a track or a country road is still vivid in my memory to this day. It made me look as talented as Michael Schumacher behind the wheel. Four wheel neutral drifts at 110mph sounds insane but it felt normal. Damn, I need a track car!

@@craigodonnell6316 Best car ever, that 3.0R SpecB -- I would have not sold had I room for 3 vehicles, modern cars make me weep - The Jag XKR-S is insane, I will get a video up someday - limited to 200 units, luxury inside and a beast when you hold the pedal for a few seconds

Thanks for this detailed review. Very helpful as I'm thinking of buying an XK. One small thing: the word is 'damping', not 'dampening'. Dampening means to make something wet.

@@maz500 It's actually damped in this context. Not dampened. Two distinct meanings. Sorry for being pedantic, and thanks again for the review. I think I'm going for the later 5l version. Beautiful car in whatever form!

Thanks to @maz500 for featuring my XK, glad you enjoyed it. Maz actually taught me about a couple of features my car had that I was unaware of. This is the tenth Jaguar I’ve owned over the last 34 years, and although I’ve owned others I should have kept, it’s this X150 that will be with me to the end. Special shout out to @wraptorcustoms for maintaining (and tuning) my Jag to the highest standards, and Paul @life_on_cars for his very helpful XK videos. If you haven’t checked out their channels, you’re missing out!

My son has a rare VX55 pre-production model. I never understood why no manufacturer rather than having two useless forward facing rear coupe seats instead had one usable seat facing sideways from the passenger side to the driver side, BTW the slot in the arm rest is where you can insert the key.

@@maz500 I know about lowering insurance hence the UK has models like the Honda CRZ that had useless back seats other markets didn't get but just wondered why no manufacturer ever tried one usable seat rather than two useless ones? Too late now as all you can buy is fat two ton electric vehicles.

I have the 6 speed ZF in my XF, it is a bit lazy in normal driving but stick it in sport or dynamic mode or both if you're brave and hold on! The 8 speed with a decent engine size should be lovely safe not have to hunt too much. The only thing that stops me getting an XK is that the XF is a fine handling car without the compromise of the XK. It's a GT Saloon if there is such a thing.
@craigodonnell6316

The XF is a fine choice. I had one before my XK and I'll (hopefully) get one again and get the XK into the garage.

I had one of these for about 3 months. It looked beautiful, sounded amazing, but it was shit to drive, really bad. Understeery on entry and wallowy on exit, somehow it felt hard riding and yet so sloppy. I know its not a sports car, but honestly a diesel bmw 5 series estate makes this feel like a joke. It chased camber on the road like nothing else and I never felt any confidence at speeds over 60, it felt dangerous and not in a good way, completely disconnected from the road. I had all the tyres changed, had a 4 wheel alignment and checked all the bushes and links, it was apparently fine, except it was still awful. I would recommend buying a CL55 AMG or even a Conti GT if you can find one that has been well looked after.

When I reviewed the XJS, moving the selector required a lot of force, same on the F-Type relatively speaking. The only selector I've used with a lighter operation was the X100.

Loving your E-Type and XK Paul. The camera used for filming this really accentuates certain noises and when I watched this section it really sounded quite terrible. In reality, as you are no doubt aware, the action is far more ‘solid’ than the recording implies. Having said that, I believe Sir William Lyons encouraged steering your jaguar using only your forefinger and thumb, a habit I developed from my very first Jaguar, a 73’ Series 1 XJ6 4.2 SWB manual overdrive. I still drive this way today conditions allowing. Point is, there is a finesse to driving Jaguar’s in ‘the manner they are accustomed to’ which comes directly from its heritage and creator. In a world of plug and play, instant response, instant reward, discard after-five-years mentality, operating controls with subtlety may no longer be the norm. Personally ‘finessing’ my driving with minimal input, smooth actions, with a ‘slow-in fast-out’ methodology brings me much satisfaction. Whether its running to the shops or piloting down a B road, I just love it. Thanks again Maz500!
