Thank You so much for demostrating how to manually lower the roof/hood! I was having trouble knowing how to release the roof rams. I was trying to reach inside and push only on the ram and found that quite difficult. I could only retract one ram, best i could tell, but maybe lossened the other just a little, though i now doubt that. Anyway, did get the roof down but had to get the roof hydraulics to help me. Now i will try it as you did it and see if i can lower it just as you did (completely manually with no assist by my car. Thanks again, bill

No that’s not a video I have created, I would suggest a little light silicone spray on the pivot points, you may find one of the rams is failing or maybe the pump

Very helpful video - Thank You! Thanks in advance for any help. I just purchase a 2002 and when I lower the convertible top the latch stays exposed and the dash indicated Hood Not Closed. If I manually push the latch down it pops right back up. Other than that the top seems to be working fine. Any suggestions?

It may be the rail or solenoids are the problem it could also be the BCM I have a spare rail if you would pay postage it's yours. Email me on [e-mail] if interested and I will find out postage cost.

Very helpful video. I have a problem with my top being on manual mode after the green shower. Your hint with popping into the sides was effective, but when I manually close the top, my little side windows wont get up again. I closed the front lid with the tool, rolled my side windows up, but cant manage to close the little windows. Any ideas? Obviously it correlates with the move you did on the side, as the windows roll immediately down after you did. How can I pop it out in reverse?

Sounds like the body control module has a problem you can raise the windows by jumpering the relay in the trunk but obviously that is only a temporary fix

I’ll be replacing the hoses on my 2000 XK8 soon and your videos definitely have me headed in the right direction. I do have one question, though. After connecting the new hoses, how does the system get primed with fluid? Does it prime itself while attempting to raise and lower the top?

Yes it kind of self primes keep an eye on the fluid level but it just pumps it through you don’t have to bleed it

Also, having difficulty tracking the hoses to left side lift cylinder. Seem to enter bulkhead with the other hoses, then travels behind back seat and pops out at cylinder. How in hell do I get behind the seat to reach the hoses.

@@rfrizz595 I cannot remember 😪 unless you need to pull them I would just flush them through. Or check out GARY Van Remortal he has created the XK8 bible that may help.

noticed your passenger quarter window dropped down as you pushed on the passenger side top to release the mechanism - is that normal?

I am not sure , it maybe as damage may occur if they did not drop, you may have to get someone else to do this on their car to see if it happens.
