A carpenter's hammer? And "I'm sure it's metric but 3/4" comes close enough"! Lol, all kidding aside you really did do a good job on this video. You were thorough, covered all the bases without any b/s. Nice job! Kinda interesting seeing someone working on a Jag without the Brit accent!

Thanks so much, I was trying to do it without taking out the upper bolt on the A frame bushings. I worked on it for 2 days straight, watching your video has set me straight, going right now to do the job. You saved me.

Nice video Sam. As it's spring and the UK weather is improving I'm going to overhaul my shocks and replace the mount and lower bushings. Along with the workshop manual your video has enhanced my understanding of what's involved with this job. I'll be using a workshop spring compressor though (£80 but well worth the added safety), I think those slide on spring compressors are an accident waiting to happen. Will also torque the bolts and nuts to their specified Nm range in the Jag workshop manual.

I'm sure this is too late for Zac but just in case anyone else his age bumps into this, yes your insurance is likely to be too high unless the car is in your parents name and insured by them. Either car is great, the newer the better. The XKR is a bit more complicated because of the forced induction system. And finally yes they are expensive to maintain. Parts are generally more pricey than say a Corvette, and if you can't do the work yourself it gets very expensive.

Thanks a lot for these videos, very helpful. I'm turning 16 and fixing to get a car and I found a 2005 Jaguar XKR and 2001 XK8, I was wondering if they're reliable and if they take a lot of money to maintain? The XK8 was 59k miles and the XKR has 63k. I was wondering which to buy and if the insurance would be high. Both are convertibles and I like the XKR a bit more. Thanks so much!

Fantastic. Thanks for posting all your vids. While it is out why not just replace the whole shock though?

Our centre nut makes the whole rod rotate which means the Mount won’t come loose. Any ideas?

Diagram shows there's a bolt above the top mounting plate, as shown in this video, and a bolt below the upper mounting plate. Is that correct that there are 2 bolts around the plate?

2001 XKR. The shocks are $pendy. It has Adaptive Control Dampining system. Is it possible to convert to Non-Adaptive shocks/struts?

tip: when working with wheels always wear a mask and clean everything with a wet cloth because brake pad dust is everywhere and it is toxic.

Hi, now I need to replace the rear shocks and mounts; I can't find a video, any input will be greatly appreciated.

If you decide to tackle this project, not all coil compressors will fit these springs. Gaps too small. Tried two sets from AutoZ*ne without success. Also, get a strut nut removal kit to get the top nut off the shock; otherwise, you'll just spin the shaft when removing the nut. Bought a kit online for $130.00.

This is double wishbone setup. Spring damper assembly don’t turn. However they become noisy with age.
