Good call this one .I have same problem on my xk 8 .26 yr old compressed rubber seals . Tried all sorts to rectify but to no avail .fortunately it's garaged . Will try this method . Great to share thanks .

Hi Richard, glad you liked it buddy. Another trick you can do is to cut a small slot in the original door rubber and then insert another piece of rubber into that to bulk it out a bit, that also works well 👍

I'm about to market raw plugs as Jaguar XK8 window trim locking nuts, only £4.00 a piece (cheapest on the market) LOL. Very in depth video and a good result buddy.

Hi, nice work, I had the water problem with my 1996 XK8, luckily no rust issues, I think it was the A pilar rubber - as the water goes down into a tube, then should reappear near the door hinge, however the tube was broken so the water would enter the car - think it may have been caused by previous owner trying to open the door with it frozen to the car and ripped the rubber - the car then suffered a major problem and and been sold… so not sure if it was fixed! Silver lining - now have a newer XK8. Great job keep up and great videos ..

Hi John, it does seem to be a common issue, though like me, they aren't aware as they are mostly garaged all year until they get left out in the rain for a period of time. The newer XK's are beautiful, I have been looking at them myself over the last few months 😃

Hi Paul, the paint repair was only ever a temporary repair, as i always intended to paint the whole car again. In fact, the new owner has had a full respray of the car, which looks amazing 👍

I'll catch up with your XK8 videos as I have a 1997 model. One question though ...... after I watched this video I watched the first one from a year ago when you first acquired the car and the door seals are not fitted and I can see that there are no plastic plugs in the fixing holes. Surely this means that you must have refitted the seals with just the white mastic? I don't understand why you seem so surprised about the lack of proper fittings and hence the ingress of rain water? Hi Richard, yes I did fit it up there with the silicone, I was having a joke at my self buddy. My intentions were to only put the car together to see what's what, get an MOT and then restore over the winter. That never happened, so I was more surprised that it lasted over a year as it was only ever a temporary fix! Glad to have you along buddy, and I appreciate you getting in touch 👍 Cheers, Simon.

@@projectsinthebarn Ah ..... it all makes sense now. Thanks Simon. 😉 I've done a lot of work on my XK8 over last 23 years. The trickiest jobs were the front wheel bearings, the cam chain tensioners, and the diff and gearbox fluid changes but all were doable. I'm looking forward to catching up with your work and expanding my knowledge. 👍
