Jaguar XK8 Which Brakes ? V64 / XKR (X100) all the standard and easy upgrade options explained.

Trying to explain the differences in X100 standard brakes and how to identify them. Hopefully it should help you identify and ensure you get the the correct parts that little bit easier. Includes Which disc, Which caliper, Braking leverage, Upgrading and Which wheel. Gives part numbers, model years and VIN numbers for each of the different types of brakes.
Please note (as mentioned by John Stewart) you will need to also change the to 'Red colour' space saver spare for the Brembo brakes upgrade - Thanks John 👍

All great information. It took me a while to work out that the later XKR's had Brembo brakes even if they did not have the R Performence pack.

I just scored a big brake kit second hand for €1000 with everything. New pads, discs, second hand rotors and steel braided brake lines. I have a 99 xkr so I have the ate front 325mm. My chassi is 040025

@@ODRModurol I will take photos and some videos of the project. The first hurdle is the cost of JLM21320 and JLM21321. It's close to €400-500 just for the hardware kit! To fit the pads to the rotors

My '04 XKR naturally had the 355mm Brembo's. I found numerous vendors on Amazon that deal in brake "axle kits", a pair of rotors and set of pads for 1 axle. Doing the front of my car with drilled and slotted rotors only ran me about $145. I went with ceramic pads BTW, they're not known to stop as well as metallic of course, but it still stops like crazy plus now my wheels stay nice and clean and the brakes are quiet too.

Remember drilled roters often crack if you push the car hard on track

Hi Damian. Another great video. I think you mixed up the vin numbers when you talk about the change from the first brakes to the second (increase the front to 325). I think XKR and XK8 vin numbers are mixed)

I got the vin number information from Jaguar Heritage see link - www.jaguarheritage.com/files/xk8_x100_chassis_numbers.pdf However, the change over are rarely clean and people have had at least 14 years to modify them. What do think is wrong ? Much appreciate you input, regards Damian

I’m sorry Damian. After looking at the file with the evolution of the VIN numbers I understood my mistake of interpretation. I didn’t know that there was a change of vin numbering in 1999. I thought the A00000 were for XKR and the 000000 for XK8. Mine being a 2000 XKR A06717 I couldn’t understand how my brakes started on vin 036194. Thanks for your important service to this community. Btw, with your important help, I just changed my timing chain and, guess what, both tensioneers and guides were severely cracked. Thanks god I changed them. Thanks for everything once again

Assume Jaguar must have had some old stock to clear when it brought in the ‘A’ VIN change over. Hence it’s got an overlap of the two. Hi what you haven’t mentioned , and I imagine it has caught people. Out , if you convert your car. To the big brembo’s like I have done on my xkr convertible the steel space saver will no longer fit over the bigger calipers ( tears at puncture time ) you need the red alloy space saver ,even though my car has 20” Detroit’s
