This video is really good, another great one by you I say. I like how you have is up in the air like this. I did a really bad thing to my XKR one week ago - I jacked the front of the car up under front cross member but I never placed the jack under back as far properly as I thought I had - anyway it fell down because it slipped off as I was jacking her up, the intercooler was damaged with a V in it, all bent up badly, I scraped the fins in front of radiator too, I was already about 300mm up in the air!! The radiator was ok. It broke the plastic shield underneath and the head of the jack went right through that tearing a large piece off with it, I thought I had ruined many things but it's not leaking at all (the intercooler) so maybe I dodged a bullet...also oil cooler got pushed up as well....maybe 150mm or so! F...k that scared the shit out of me! I am worried that if I try to bend it all down again I will maybe create leaks etc so I might leave it where it is and repair my shield with epoxy and screw it back on. It seems ok no leaks from anything thankfully. I finally changed both front upper shock mounts for new ones...old ones were toast but to be honest I don't notice much difference in ride smoothness, these are quite famous for being a pretty rough ride at slow speeds till you get some speed up + better highways etc, height of car has maybe come up only 10mm or so it seems. Mine is 2004 model.

Thanks, tell me about it ;) I also realized afterwards that you actually can remove the actuators without removing the headlight assembly. It is a bit tight spot but doable. Anyway, all this was great fun during dark winter evenings.

The bottom bolt often corrodes in its brass insert and has often resulted in the plastic around the insert breaking. You can re-secure the insert using JB Weld or similar and then use copper slip when putting the bolt back in. Very common priblem

Good one!!! Your video is quite informative, I notice the newly exposed bodywork is looking a bit dry. I'd be tempted to give all a quick spray with some WD40 and a wipe down as this baby unibody is made of steel.

Why were the ears of the two metal brackets under the headlights cut. The ears are missing from those two brackets. The earless brackets are visible @19:39 under the left corner of the left headlight and @19:56 under the right corner of the right headlight.

Hello sir, not quite sure what bracket you are referring to. The tall black bracket connects to headlight body as seen at 17:58 but I assume this is not the question.

However, I like to change my current tungsten head bulbs with nicer looking LEDs and need an easy way to get there and change. I don't think this has to be this difficult. So, Kindly, could you please, in simple, plan, American English, describe what is the correct way of opening the head lamps in XK8? Thanks man.

Hi Sam, I'd suggest you get the Workshop Manual or JTIS. Both explain the removal of the headlight assembly. It should be a fairly easy job as you can see on some bitter sweet comments here ;) As I tried to explain the video, I could not remove the "lower securing bolt" and I decided to go full monty to see whats in there. So here is the procedure as outlined in the Workshop Manual: 1. Turn the steering to full lock, as follows: Right- hand headlamp - Left-hand lock. Left- hand headlamp - Right-hand lock. 2. Displace the wheel arch liner for access. 2.1. Release the center fastener which secures the wheel arch liner access panel. 2.2. Lift the lower retaining catch and disconnect the lower edge of the access panel from the wheel arch liner. 2.3. Remove the access panel. 2.4. Remove the fixings which secure the front of the wheel arch liner to the body. 2.5. Reposition the wheel arch liner for access. 3. Remove the headlamp fixings. 3.1. Disconnect the multi-plug from the headlamp. 3.2. Remove the upper securing bolt and lower securing bolt. 3.3. Slacken the headlamp securing nut. Carefully reposition the headlamp for access to the washer jet. 4. Remove the headlamp. 4.1. Disconnect the washer jet assembly from the headlamp and reposition clear of the lamp. 4.2. Remove the headlamp assembly.

Is there a way to aim the self leveling afs headlights on an xk? I had the headlight assemblies replaced and the right one seems high

Hi, if you look at 18:24 I am rotating the knob at the back of the actuator. This allows you to aim the headlight. You should be able to reach that knob by hand - if I remember correctly 😉

I worked on Jags for 50 years. What a bloody major job you made of it, NO need to do all that, at £105.00 an hour work shop charge no customer is going to pay for that. That torx bolt your trying to remove is in a threaded brass insert, just remove the bracket that bolt is connected on car then remove the headlamp, warm up the bolt and remove it from the bracket , fit bracket back to car, fit headlamp back to car applying copper slip to threads of torx bolt before fitting it.

Yes, that was the impression I got from the Workshop Manual. It does not mention the removal of the front bumper cover prior removing the headlamp.

Got mine in bits now well worth the effort so you can inspect everything up front improve bulbs etc and deal with any corrosion
