I am from the U.S. and just watched Jai's performance on the X Factor AU for the first time today. What really caught me is that he writes his own songs. For a boy of 14 (then), I was very surprised at his depth of understanding human emotion, relationships and heartache. That is the perception, anyway. For most writers, it takes years of living those emotions, through those relationships and experiencing those heart aches, and heart breaks personally before ever knowing how to put them into words, lyrics and thus songs. It makes me curious how he does that at (still) such a young age. I have not listened to a lot of his music, but what I have heard in the songs I did listen to, there is a lot of..... how do I say it.... fear of being alone, of being left, of abandonment, of losing someone's love. Pretty deep for such a young soul. I'll listen to more to try to get a better understanding of this young talent to see if there is more than sorrow in his tender heart.
