Thank you, sir. As a ham, CB & UHF radio operator we always keep backup batteries & inverters in case of emergency. I have a few 3.3, 7 & 12 amp gel cells & some larger lead-acid ones. These are for an emergency & is a whole lot closer with this Russin business now going on. I have this same charger. They work. I recently was given an 85 Ah battery. I topped up this 85Ah sealed leisure battery (I distill my own water) by drilling 6 holes topping it up & resealing it with hot glue so easy to remove & re-top up in the future. I had it on pulse repair overnight & it brought it back. My only test was on a 12-volt kettle that draws about 14 amps & It boiled a full kettle twice so far & close to an hour of 14 amp constant current draw & it's still well over 12 volts, but I will give it some more pulse charging. I have 2 126Ah truck batteries that I have been maintaining on pulse repair in case this Russian war business goes nova & the UK loses its power grid with conventional or EMP weapons. UK power grid is very fragile. God help us if that happened all nuclear facilities could not be maintained & would explode. If there is a god that is.

The hot climate isn't good for batteries. I hope you have success with the charger. It can't fix serious issues, but it can remove some sulfation from the plates and give the battery a slightly longer life.

For Battery Type, the user manual says: All type of 12V AGM, GEL, Flooded (Wet), Calcium type deep cycle, VRLA maintenance free lead acid batteries So, according to the user manual, gel batteries are OK. I can't verify this myself, I'm just quoting from the manual.

Hope it works out for you, but put aside lots of time. I just spent 26 hours doing a pulse charge to repair my battery. The Philippines and Thailand have similar climates and batteries don't last as long in tropical countries compared to temperate countries. Mine only tend to last around three years normally, but I'm hoping that the pulse repair function will extend the life a little. Your famous jeepneys must need a lot of battery power to illuminate all those lights 😉

It has two modes. The first mode is for normal charging and this applies a smooth electrical charge to the battery. A battery has lead plates and acid inside, and over a period of time the performance degrades when lead sulfate crystals build up on the plates. The second mode is a pulse/repair mode. This applies pulses of electricity to the battery, which can help to remove the lead sulfate crystals from the plates in order to improve the battery performance.

Love the review because I just brought one but before I decided to buy I was looking for something bigger. It was like you said technology has come along way because I only new big heavy duty chargers like my dad had when I was in my youth why I was confused to by or not. I'm happy I did.

I too remember those old chargers that my Dad used to have. They weren't very clever and you could easily overcharge your battery. The modern ones are tiny and have very clever electronics. It's not a problem if you connect the wrong polarity and they prevent overcharging. What's more, they are very cheap. I've been very pleased with mine too. The regular charging mode works well and I have extended the life of a couple of batteries by doing a pulse repair. Thanks for your comment!

Thank you! Yes, it is slow. It has worked well for me in both regular charging and repair mode, but it takes a long time. Once I start it I know I'll be waiting 24+ hours so I schedule it for when I don't need to use the car for at least a day.

I have one like that for the European market and it's good, its advantage is that you just hook it up and let it charge, you don't have to remove the battery, but it has one big flaw, it takes a very long time to charge the battery, if it's summer and the temperature in the battery is around 28 degrees, it will reduce the charging amperage so that the battery does not heat up, that's ok for safety reasons, but charging takes a long time, the colder the battery, the faster it charges, the bigger it is, it regulates the amperage itself. So if you bought a 5 or 10 amp charger, it doesn't matter because it will reduce the amperage and you won't gain anything in time... I've never tried the pulsating mode, because I don't wait for the battery to fail, I buy a new one every 3 years.

Yep, it's very slow! I've done a few repair charges, and it has taken around 27 hours. As you say, it works well, and mine was very cheap. Not perfect, but it does a job for not very much money. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Great video and review. Do you know if your battery charger pulses are 16 volt power spikes like a Noco Genius 5 and 10 charger or CTEK charger uses? I have a Pulsetech PowerPulse passive battery desulfator on my 2001 BMW battery as preventative maintenance as Pulsetech claims that there patented frequency they use can extend battery life up to three times. I also used my PowerPulse on my other BMW battery that I let sit disconnected for a year, and it was at 11.2 volts, I tried charging it with my friends Exide 6 amp automatic charger for 14 hours and battery voltage was at 13.1 volts, yet it would not start my other car. I put the PowerPulse on it along with a 1 amp Schumacher manual battery charger for 72 hours, and left the desulfator on it for a week and it started my car right up. My point is desulfation can take up to 30 days depending on how sulfated your battery is.

30 days! I had no idea it could take that long. I don't know about the pulses. I recall watching a video where someone had analyzed the waveform using an oscilloscope, but I haven't done anything like that. The Pulsetech charger sounds interesting. You appear to own quite a range of chargers. Mine is just a cheap charger from China, but it seems to work OK. Thanks for your comment and information!

@@PhilUKNet My chargers are not SMART chargers like yours is. The You Tube video I watched showed a time lapse of the sulfated battery plates at each week and it was sulfate free at 30 days using his homemade battery desulfator.

Thanks Phil. Got the same foxsur, similarly my car didn't have enough energy to unlock the doors either. When connected mine said battery was 'FUL' fully charged, even though it's dead. I believe this means it's either very sulphated or left too long. My battery is only a year old. I've put it on pulse charging but not sure it's working as videos I've seen of it shows fan should be working and it should make a fair bit of noise when pulse charging, but neither happens on mine. Have you experience of using the pulse function?

At the time I made this video I hadn't used the pulse/repair function. However, a little later I bought the Foxsur battery analyzer and it showed that my battery had a problem. The CCA is rated at 620, but the analyzer showed that it only had 191 and told me to replace the battery. I then used the charger in pulse/repair mode for the first time. It took a long time - I left it repairing for 26 hours - but after doing so the CCA was restored to over 600. I noticed that when I put the charger into pulse/repair mode the fan slowed down quite a lot and was much quieter than regular charging mode, but it was still running. Thanks for your comment! This is what the user manual says: "Battery type - all types of 12v, AGM, GEL, Flooded (wet), Calcium type deep cycle, VRLA maintenance free lead acid batteries." I can't give you a definitive answer, but the manual says all types of 12v therefore it should be OK.

There is no such thing as dry cells. Even in gel or AGM batteries there is an electrolyte (in the form of gel or absorbed in glass mats). In fact, the charger is only suitable for flooded batteries because it offers too high charging voltage reaching even up to 15.3V depending on the temperature (gel batteries need 14.4V, AGM 14.7V) and in pulse mode 15.7V.

I am considering about purchasing this model. My batteries are for motocycles, 12V, from 4Ah. Is the current 3.6A quite high to charge low capacity batteries?

Here are a few comments from the user manual: "This battery charger utilizes the latest technology in Lead-Acid, AGM, GEL, Flooded (wet), Calcium type deep cycle, VRLA maintenance free lead acid batteries charging, can be used with 4Ah - 100Ah batteries." "Remark: For 4Ah - 15Ah battery, we suggest use "Repair" mode, because the battery size is too small, use pulse charge is very good for small size battery." Please excuse the English, it's not mine, but the recommendation with low capacity batteries is to use pulse/repair mode. If you do that it should be fine.

I used repair mode to revive a totally dead battery. It took almost 30 hours on REPAIR before it could hold a charge, but was back to normal after that.

That's great news! It does take a long time but, like you, I've also had some success. If the problem is just sulfation the pulses from repair mode can clean the plates. If the problem is more than that you can't do much. Anyway, thanks for your comment!

The short life of batteries has surprised me living in a hot climate. In the UK batteries seemed to last for ages. This morning I had to change the battery in my wife's car again after 2 years and 9 months. It started getting weak a few months ago. I used the charger to do a pulse repair, but this time it wasn't successful. The low CCA was exactly the same after the repair. I have had had success doing pulse repairs, but it isn't successful every time. Being in lockdown and not using the car regularly doesn't help, either!

@@PhilUKNet 2 years and 9 months is considered "longer than average" for a battery in Asian country. That's already pretty good. Mine is turning 3yrs soon and I'm afraid I would have to retire it within the next few months. Our Foxsur is like a life support machine for aging batteries. Keeping it alive during this pandemic. Well, I am watching the video post purchase of this device to know more about it. Your video surfaced first in the google search. Glad to have stumbled on your review Phil. Without knowing much about it, I happened to take the battery completely out and then charge. Viola, it worked on my cars dead battery. Good to know that it is safe to charge without disconnecting the battery from the car as well and also thanks for the tip to connect the negative to the chassis on a piece which is not painted. Will remember that. I did not fully charge though. But I guess it was enough to power on and get going.

Thanks Venkata. I leave the battery connected if I'm doing a regular charge, but disconnect it if I'm doing a pulse/repair. A continuous charge shouldn't do any damage, but I don't know what those pulses might do to the car electronics. Apparently, these modern micro-processor controlled chargers are fairly safe, but with old-fashioned chargers it is best to always disconnect the leads when charging. Also, modern cars have quite sophisticated electronics that remember engine settings in the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). If you disconnect the battery these settings are lost and need to be relearned. This is another reason for not disconnecting the battery. Anyway, pleased to hear you got your dead battery working again. Even if it wasn't fully charged, it should charge fully when you drive the car provided the alternator is OK.

Please updated if de-sulfation remained for some time say 6 months or the battery went bad again in short period of time say in one month.

I did a pulse repair six months ago when my battery analyser indicated there was a problem. Since then there have been no further problems. I checked with the battery analyser recently and it still looked good. Just recently someone who seems very knowledgeable about the subject left some comments and suggested the battery should be pulse repaired twice a year, so I will probably do it again soon. However, to answer your question it didn't go bad shortly after doing the repair.

I would have liked to see exactly what you attached the the negative clip to. I would have attached both clips to the corresponding poles on the battery itself. As we speak, I'm charging my car battery up now in the house having taken it out of the car completely. What would happen if you attached both clips to the battery while the battery sat in situ? Thank you. (BTW, I got my charger for £15.59 on Amazon so I feel completely ripped off considering how much you paid for yours!)

If the battery is dead it can leak hydrogen gas and if you connect both leads to the battery it can create a spark, which could ignite the gas. Somewhere on the engine block there should be be an unpainted metal grounding point that you can connect the negative lead to. An Irishman told me he paid £28 on-line, including shipping from the UK, so you didn't get ripped off too badly! They are still around £6 on-line in Thailand.

@@dgrreadyt Someone, somewhere is making a lot of money. They're still available on-line in Thailand for around the equivalent of £6 and retailers are still making a profit. The wholesale price must be very low. Yes, there is shipping and tax, but even so, UK consumers (as usual) are being ripped off. It's the same with camera equipment and many other things.

Honest answer: I don't know! I've watched videos on the subject done by people who I assume have a far greater knowledge of the subject than me, and this is the advice I have heard. The negative terminal is connected to the chassis, so it shouldn't make much difference. I've done it both ways and it doesn't seem to make any difference. However, because I've heard this advice so often, I assume there must be a reason.

The user manual doesn't say anything about this, therefore, this is just my opinion. When using pulse/repair mode, I would definitely recommend disconnecting the battery leads to prevent any damage to the car electrics. When doing a regular (non-pulse) charge it is PROBABLY OK to leave the leads connected but, as a precaution, I would also recommend disconnecting the leads. Prevention is better than cure and for the sake of a few extra minutes my view is that it is better to disconnect the leads. By disconnecting the leads it won't be possible for the charger to damage the electrics.

Would it affect the car in anyway if the battery is not unolugged from the car and the charger is being charging the battery at thr same time?

It's a good question. I wanted to know this and several people have asked. Unfortunately, the user manual doesn't mention this. I have performed normal charges with the battery leads still connected and there wasn't a problem. However, I always disconnect the leads when doing a pulse/repair charge. High voltage pulses of electricity could very likely damage the car's electrical system and it's not worth the risk. I always think it's better to be safe than sorry and considering that it only takes half a minute to disconnect the leads it would probably be a good idea to do so while charging in order to eliminate any risk of doing damage to the car. For this reason, I would recommend disconnecting the leads every time. Just in case.

Unfortunately, the charger has no noise filter at the input of the switching power supply. It thus produces a really large amount of interference in the distribution network. This may limit the functionality of other devices, especially electronic devices, near the charger. This was the reason I came to this fundamental shortcoming of the charger. The charger definitely does not meet the requirements of Electromagnetic Compatibility standards! Personally, I solved this by inserting an interference filter from a non-functional ATX PC power supply. In my case, this solution reduced the interference to an acceptable level. Otherwise, the charger itself works well.

Very useful tip MS. Quite a few people have mentioned about the RFI with this charger. I wonder if a mains extension lead with a built-in filter would also work.

@@phonicwheel933 Hard to say. For the most effective removal of interference, it is best if the filter is as close as possible to the source of this interference. But here it is true that anything is better than nothing. It would be good to try it. Unfortunately, I do not have such an extension cord. In our country, such extension cords are not commonly sold. They can only be purchased with surge protection, but not with an RF filter. Maybe some specialty store for audiophiles. This is due to the legislation that all electrical equipment sold in our country or the EU must meet the relevant standards, including those relating to electromagnetic compatibility EMC. The problem here is that the charger is Made in PRC, where they probably don't bother with any EMC. It would definitely not pass any of the European type-approval tests in this technical design.

I am looking at buying on of these FOXSUR Battery Charger because I looked AliExpress & read up on it apparently the FOXSUR are a very good brand of charger & it has 7 stage charging system & they are reasonably priced battery charger Kind Regards Peter

Hello Peter, I believe that the same basic charger is sold under several brand names - Foxsur being just one of them. I have been quite pleased and I have received comments from other people who have also been quite pleased. The main criticism seems to be the amount of electrical noise that these things generate, although I haven't experienced any problems myself. If you use the charger near to other electrical devices, especially Wi-Fi points, it can interfere with them and stop them from working. That's just something to be careful of. It works well with regular charging and when I used the pulse/repair function it gave my battery a new lease of life, as verified with the Foxsur battery analyser. They are quite cheap - although more expensive in the UK compared to where I am in Asia - and I think they are good value for money. Thanks for your comment!

To charge the battery without disconnecting it from the car. If the battery negative terminal is earthed, can I connect the black lead from the charger to the battery negative terminal?

Sure. With the battery still connected the black lead can go to the negative terminal or somewhere on the chassis. With the battery still connected, I wouldn't recommend doing a pulse/repair charge. I have left the battery connected to do regular charges, but I've now got into the habit of disconnecting it just to be on the safe side.

Test the voltage with a multimeter at battery terminals while charging, it is HIGHER than what's shown on the LCD screen.

I have the same battery charger. Just wondering is it OK to use this as a trickling charger to leave it hooked on the battery for a longer duration to compensate the discharging on the battery over the time.

It doesn't say anything specifically about this in the manual, but I imagine it would be OK. The concern with trickle charging over a long period of time is overcharging, but I believe the microprocessor in the Foxsur won't allow this to happen. I have only used mine to charge a depleted battery and to do pulse repairs. In either case I have only left the charger attached to the battery for around 24 hours. If my car was in storage for a long period of time and I wanted something to tend the battery I would do some more research. The Foxsur *should* be OK, but it might be better to buy a trickle charger that is designed specifically for this purpose. TLDR - it will probably be OK, but I'm not 100% sure.

@@PhilUKNet You are correct when you say that it would be best to get a dedicated trickle [topping] charger. The manuals I have for the Foxsur say that once the battery is fully charged that the charger should be disconnected from the battery within 2 hours to avoid overcharging and resultant gassing.

I don't think there is much of a difference because the negative lead in the battery is connected to the chassis, but I have seen many sources that say when you jump start a car or charge the battery it is better to connect the negative lead to the chassis rather than to the negative terminal of the battery. Not sure why. My background is mechanical, not electrical!

@@PhilUKNet You are right: there is no difference between the two connections, provided the negative connection that you make is to a part of the car that has a low resistance route to the negative terminal of the battery. From a purely electrical point of view, it is much better to connect the charger directly to both battery terminals, especially for the 'repair' mode where high current pulses are generated by the charger. The reason why it is recommended not to connect directly is purely for safety reasons as there is less danger of the two clips of the charger cables shorting together, which must always be avoided or there will be a massive spark.

@@PhilUKNet very wise. It is not worth exposing the high-tech electronic devices on modern cars to the continuous high voltage pulses that would be generated by forcing high current pulses into the battery as you say. This precaution should be put in the instructions, I would suggest.

Hi Phil, I have a 7 year old Ford Focus that is on it's original battery. A few times now had to jump start, even took it for a drive and battery is at about 20%. It took about 6 hours to get to 30%, would you say I should run repair mode? How long for etc?

Definitely! It certainly won't hurt and it might get a bit more life out of the battery even though it is old already. I would use an analyzer to see what the CCA is now and how much difference the repair makes. Based on my own experience it's a very slow process that takes at least 24 hours, but I have seen that it can improve the CCA value. In its present state you might start having problems when the weather gets cold. If repair doesn't work it's time for a new battery, but it's worth a try.

Hi Phil i got a Foxsur after listening your review. i tested on a fairly new spare battery ( not yet used) & there was no charging light on & screen showed temp & constant 12.5 volts readings . The battery figure also showed only 40% charged ( 2 columns) This lasted over 8 hours without any change in the above light , readings except for temp which went up . i also tested the charger on a working battery . Again there was no charging light & screen showed temp & 12.5 volts But the battery figure showed 100% charged ( all the 5 columns) . in your assessment is my new battery faulty ( 40% charged) or is charger faulty since not charging in both cases

Difficult to say! These cheap chargers are mass produced somewhere - probably China - and the QA isn't great. It seems most are OK, but a few dud ones slip through the net. Can you get a replacement charger if you have only just bought it? Even though your spare battery is fairly new, has it been sitting for a long time. Have you tried pulse repair mode? That may be what is required to kick it into action, but be aware it takes a long time - 24+ hours.

When the charger is first connected to a weak battery does it show some voltage reading ( below optimun) , charging red light is on flashing and the battery capacity in percentages flashing . When the battery is fully charged the voltage is at a fixed value , the red light is on continuous and the battery capacity in 100% continuous ? . Can a battery be considered fully charged if it shows a fixed voltage reading , no charging red light , temp reading and battery capacity in % stationary at 60% Thank you

I'm actually using it right now to do a pulse/repair on the battery in my wife's car. No, you can't use it for jump starts. For that you'll need a portable jump starter, which is a completely different kind of device. The Foxsur doesn't hold any charge. You can use the Foxsur to charge your battery overnight, although overnight may not be long enough. When I have done charges and repairs to my battery (620 CCA) it has taken in excess of 24 hours. Also, if your battery performance has degraded because of sulfation you can use it to do a pulse repair and this will help to remove lead sulfate crystals from the internal battery plates.

So if your car is parked outdoors in the UK, and the charger / repair takes about 20 hours... it's not very useful unless you have a tent to shield the car / charger from the rain!

That's right! If you don't have a garage (or a tent), I'd recommend taking the battery out and charging indoors. Unless you have a car in which the battery is located in a very unusual place, it's not too bad. I've done both. I don't have a garage, but my driveway is covered, and I've also charged batteries indoors.

It's not bad, actually. Plastic, but fairly well made. I guess it depends how you will be using it. Mine will just be used at home occasionally in a gentle environment and it should last for a very long time. If you are using it in a repair shop and it is being used all the time it probably won't last long. It's definitely made for domestic, rather than for professional use.

Bought this charger to try & fix wifey's Suzuki Celerio which is also suffering from Covid torpor. I attached the red clip to the +ve post & the black clip to the -ve post (not the body earth). Will this damage the battery?

I don't believe so and if you charge the battery outside of the car, connecting the negative lead to the battery post is your only option. To be honest, I used to connect the charger to both battery posts with the battery in the car but I saw a lot of comments online saying that you should use the chassis to connect the negative lead. Same for jump starting. I assumed that the people giving this advice understand more about car electrics than me, so I started doing the same thing. Covid torpor is afflicting many people and things, and it goes on and on and on.

I honestly can't remember the maximum voltage when I was doing a charge and it's been a while since I did a charge. I'm therefore not sure if this is normal or not. Information on the Internet varies. One source says that 14.1v is the maximum (the highest I see from my car alternator is 14.2v) but another source says: "Alternator voltages and car battery chargers voltages can go over 15v safely, as long as the battery is monitored to make sure that it isn't overcharged." 14.8v seems a little high, but according to this quote it is still OK. Next time I do a charge I will pay more attention to the maximum voltage.

I don't know what a 2SL battery is. When I Googled I found batteries that weren't car batteries. The user manual just says 5 hours for motorbike batteries and 8 hours for car batteries. However, when I did a pulse repair it took a lot longer.

For truck batteries due to their capacity I would recommend at least Foxsur 8A version. It offers a higher charging current and also has a pulse mode.

One question: I have been using this charger, since January of this year, in a 3 y.o. Lead Batery of 700 AMP car battery, because it was waking up in 11.9 volt and didn't star the car. The fist time revived with the repair mode for 4 hours. Since then I was doing a repair charge of 4-6 hours once a month. The other mode doesn't activate: shows FUL even if the charge is low, so I can' only do the repair mode. But in the last two months the battery loses its charge overnight. I repair for 30 minutes and I can start the car, drive, and keeps good for about 6 hours. Any thoughts? How can I improve this? A repair charge of 24 hrs? The longest I have used that mode is 8 hours and still loses the charge overnight.

I'm no expert, but after 3 years, it sounds like your battery is getting weak. Where do you live? Here in Thailand, where it's very hot, I'm told that batteries are only good for a couple of years, although mine generally last a bit longer.

The car is also very hot inside the compact trunk ( A Dodge Neon 2005 ) But the thing is the car has had very little use in these 3 years, due to the pandemics and lack of gasoline in my country, so I think the batery shouldn't be worn out yet. In fact the approximate kilometers in those years are about 7000- 8000 KM. So, should I try the 24 hrs pulse repair? I filled the 6 vessels with distilled water last week. 4 of them were very dry.

@aljesus6130 Dry cells could have been the problem. Topping up the battery and another long pulse charge may help. The lack of use may also be a contributing factor. See how it goes, and if there is no improvement, a replacement will probably be necessary.

@@PhilUKNet thanks for your answer. I let it drain last night. Woke up with 9.6 volts. I connected to the charger and first time since I bought it the normal charge activate. After 40 minutes stopped and got the FUL message. Connected to the car, it reads 12.30 (with a voltage reader I plug in the cigar lighter), despite the charger says 12.8 after stabilizing. With that voltage the cars turn on, but loses the charge after 10 hours parked. I read somewhere that any volt under 12,4 is bad. So I am going to try the long repair charge (24 hrs) to eliminate the sulphate. My goal is 12.6 volts after a charge, with God's help. It appears once in a while when I park after I drive 20 minutes. So let's see if this little guy can extent the life of this battery a little bit. Greetings.

i have had mine for a couple of months now, and have kept my caravan battery topped up ,also had a Exide 45A battery which has not been used for a while and although i have charged it before over 12months , it has a window which supposed to let you now the state of the battery , black colour (needs charging or flat) silver needs charging, and if the battery is good green, which although i have over chargers it has never been green in the small round window at the top, however i used this charger on pulse for about 16hrs then it went to trickle charge and guess what i have a green window like it was new again, its cold here so it charges about 15v, so the pulse bit works and of coarse the charger, ?

It's still going strong! The battery is rated at 620 SAE and after the pulse repair I got just over 600. I checked it again two days ago with my battery analyser and it had dropped to 500 SAE, but the analyser said it was still fine. I will probably do another pulse repair soon to see if I can increase that figure, but it takes a long time - 24 hours plus based on my last experience.

Came here to find out about the battery charger, and spotted your car battery was in Thai, before you said you were in Thailand. I'm down south on Koh Lanta :) . Bought one of these the other day to check a few bike batteries (all good) Currently have the charger in repair mode on a UPS battery to see if it will bring it back to life. What I don't understand is the temperature sensor - there's no way that is the temperature of the battery, it must be the ambient air temp, or the temperature of the charger. I can't think of any way the charger can tell the temperature of the battery just from the charging connectors.

There's a directly proportional relationship between electrical resistance and temperature. It just measures the electrical resistance inside the battery and tries to estimate temperature. It's completely inaccurate, but the manual does say "Temperature is for reference only, allowed tolerance." Greetings from Songkhla province!

It *may* be OK, but this isn't really what these devices are intended for and it's *not* something I would recommend. This device is a battery conditioner. Your car battery loses efficiency because of the build up of lead sulphate crystals on the plates. In pulse/repair mode this device can deliver strong pulses of electricity that break down these crystals and thus improve the battery's performance. They are only designed to be connected to the battery while the repair is taking place (24 hours, or so) and then removed. If you are planning to leave your car for an extended period of 3 months or longer, what you really need is a trickle charger, *not* a battery conditioner. Trickle chargers work on a very low voltage and they just replace the charge that is lost naturally. Because of the very low voltage there is little risk of overcharging, as there might be with a battery conditioner if you leave it connected for a long time.

Yes it will stop charging once it reaches 100% - listen to the fan once it shows "FUL". I did leave my Foxsur turned on for days, but if one notice the fan is running continuously on "FUL" status after several hours, it probably means the battery can't reach 100% charge state (maybe around 95%) and the charger is keeping it afloat. No issue though . Battery temp remains cool. At "FUL" status it's just pumping out probably less than 1A but at 13.4Volts.

@@stephenfell4338 I guess it may not a problem, but this charger isn't really meant to be connected permanently for months on end. It's just meant to charge or repair and then be disconnected. When it reaches full it may stop charging, but it doesn't actually switch off. Your original query was about leaving it connected for 3 months.

I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions. Some devices give you a list of error codes with descriptions of the errors, but there is nothing in my user manual. With many cheap electronic devices these days they're not designed to be repaired, just replaced. If you have any electrical knowledge, or know someone who does, you could take a quick look inside for anything obvious. Otherwise, it's not going to be economical to repair. I just looked at Lazada and where I am in Thailand they are being sold for as cheaply as 209 Thai Baht - just over 6 USD. If my one went wrong I would just buy another and throw the broken one in the bin.

My friend, i need your advice. I bought this battery, and it went on “FUL”, but I left it to do some chores, and came back 1.5 hours later. So the LCD display says “FUL” for 1.5 hours. The display still says FUL. But at the same time, the red indicator light went from “charging” to “fault”. Is this normal? Can “FUL” and fault light be ON at the same time? Its a brand new battery. I bought it just 2 days ago!

I'm afraid I don't know, but it doesn't sound right especially for a new battery. The manufacturer recommends leaving the charger on for a while after it says full, so you did the right thing. I don't know why it is telling you there is a fault. In your situation I think I would use the battery for a while and then try charging it again later.

But, when the smart charger is unplugged from wall socket, the LCD displays full, but the “fault” is where the red light comes to simply because its not connected to the wall socket. I hope im right! 😮

it's work really great, I used it 2 times now, because i abandon my car for 2 week and the battery getting weak. I save a lot money when i have this charger. before I usually change my car bettery every year, now it's has been 2 years I didn't change it.

That's great to hear! I've received a few negative comments, but most feedback has been positive. There are limitations. It can't repair damaged cells, but if the battery is weak because of sulfation the pulse/repair mode can improve battery life. Thanks for your feedback!

Is there anything in particular you would like to see tested? I haven't done any more testing other than what I did in the video. Basically, just analyzing the state of the battery before and after repairing.

Not really. Presumably the temperature controls the fan and when it's hot it turns the fan on, even though the battery is full.

I watched this and as a result I bought two Foxsur charger/pulsers. I then tested both in operation on a lawn mower 12v battery. On pulse/repair mode they were ok HOWEVER in normal charge mode both chargers delivered 46 - 48 volts, which makes them a fire or explosion risk. They are supposed to deliver a maximum of 14.4 volts. I would advise against buying one at all.

That's interesting. I understand that a charger should deliver a voltage of 2.30v to 2.45v for each cell, therefore 13.8v to 14.7v with a 6 cell battery. As you say, 48v would be dangerous and with such a high voltage I'm not even sure how it would work. I've not had any problems myself and I've not heard of any such problems in the comments I have received. I'm therefore at a bit of a loss to explain. Anyway, thanks for your feedback.

@@PhilUKNet the voltage was all over the place whilst charging topping out at 48v, both chargers started at 14 volts but fluctuated so I kept watching, they just kept climbing, if they'd got much higher I would have stopped them manually. They both stopped charging when the battery was full, but the 48v remained within the cables when they cut off. Yes I was using a multimeter. I must admit, I didn't cycle through the menu to see what it reported itself, I maybe should have but I trust my multimeter.

I saw this exact same charger in Taiwan. It is only 300nt $10 US. I am in the same position as you, basically have not started my car in a few months. I will buy one and see if it can start my dead battery. Thanks.

Where I am in Thailand you can buy them online for less than the equivalent of 6 UK pounds (about 10 US dollars). I recently got a comment from someone in Ireland who had ordered one from the UK and paid 28 UK pounds. The charger can't repair serious flaws, but if it's just a lack of use and sulfation there's a good chance it can bring the battery back to life. Worth a shot! It worked for me.

It does switch to normal mode after the repair has finished, but it takes a very long time. When I've done repairs, it has taken 25-30 hours.

However I don't have a battery analyzer at the moment and I am still not sure whether it automatically switched to normal charging mode as it was timed out at 24 hours (as per instructions) or the battery was completely repaired. I would just like to point out here, that your automotive battery is not filled with sulfuric acid... I don't know where people get this from? The electrolyte solution inside your automotive battery is just Distilled Water... the process of transferring energy from your alternator to the battery is what creates sulfuric acid inside the battery, and it is then released into the electrolyte solution. Fallen automotive battery does contain sulfuric acid, sulfuric acid is not specifically put into the battery.

I've read several times that draining a battery completely can cause irreparable damage. I guess it's probably sealed, but if not make sure that the battery is topped up with distilled water and then try the charger again. Try it in regular charge mode and also pulse/repair mode. Even if it doesn't appear to be doing anything, just leave it for several hours. The repairs I have done have taken over 24 hours. It's not fast. Beyond that, I'm not really sure what to suggest. Ten months isn't old and it's a shame for the battery to have died after so little use.

@@dilukabeylk That’s excellent news! Sometimes it seems that batteries need a jolt to get them going and your power pack must have provided what was needed. Hopefully, the charger will now do some reconditioning and top it up fully. As I said, it takes a long time. In my experience more than 24 hours. This is great though, it would have been such a shame to have to replace a 10 month old battery.

From the user manual: "This battery charger utilizes the latest technology in Lead-Acid, AGM,GEL, Flooded(Wet), Calcium type deep cycle, VRLA maintenance free lead acid batteries charging, can be used with 4Ah-100Ah batteries." From that, it would seem that it can be used with GEL batteries, but 150Ah exceeds the maximum capacity recommended by the manufacturer. It may well be able to handle 150Ah, but I don't know.

Just bought one of these, (EBAY=29.00us)under another name, because I had an optima battery go kuput’ after only a month of use, mid winter, in USA. Man, I’m here to tell ya, it works. Saved me 300.00usd battery back to 100% after the 18hr repair cycle. My regular AGM charger would just shut off at 30% (edit) radio killed the battery , below where it should of gone. Back to normal now , though

Other people say the devices are Chinese pieces of junk that cause interference on other devices. My experience has been very good. The charger has improved the condition of my battery and saved me money.

I didn't demonstrate repair mode in this video, but I did in another video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJLXk4Gke9Kimqs The other video will show you what you should see. You should definitely see something on the display. The user manual says around 8 hours, but I left it repairing for over 24 hours. When it has finished repairing the battery it should go into regular charging mode, but even though I left it for 24 hours it was still in repair mode. It takes a loooong time.

Bought one earlier this year and used it for the first time yesterday. The red Charge light does not come on and the fan wasn't working. Had turned on power then attached red clip to battery positive and black clip to car body (earth point). Display only shows the battery voltage and the temperature. What could be wrong?

If after connecting to the AC power supply the charging process does not start, the device probably has a defect - disconnect the charger from the AC and battery and check inside if the glass fuse is not blown. It is also possible that the charger is not supplied with AC voltage, check if it is so on another extension cord.

I found problem for this foxsur charger in order to charge AGM battery. normal battery charging voltage 14.4V but AGM requires more higher voltage 14.7V or higher but this charger only charging 14.7V when it's not summer mode. you can only charge AGM battery when weather is cold.. wasted money

Not sure what you mean by a leisure battery, but this isn't a trickle charger. As far as I know, it's not designed to be connected to a battery for months at a time. You may be able to do that (it should stop charging when the battery is full to prevent overcharging), but really it is designed to charge or repair/charge and then be disconnected when finished.

This is the first time anyone has asked this question! I'm not sure why you would want to do this. I never have, and the manual doesn't say anything about doing this, but I don't see why not. I don't think it will damage the car or the charger, but I'm not completely sure. Maybe if someone else sees this and knows more about it they can add something here.

Yes, it is possible. Depends on the capacity of the battery and the degree of discharge. To speed up the process, first charge the battery in normal mode, then use repair.

That depends on the Ah size of your battery, just because it’s 12V has no bearing on the charge time. It’s always better to charge gently unless you’re in a rush.

@@Seanybiker I just looked at lazada.co.th, where I got mine. They are being sold for 229 Thai Baht - about £5.69, plus postage of just under a quid. People in the UK and Ireland get massively ripped off. That's one of the reasons why I left - and there were plenty of other other reasons! I hope it works out for you! It takes a long time to do pulse repair or normal charging. My car battery is quite big and it took well over 24 hours, however, it did make a big improvement to the battery.

You don't need to. Just use a very long extension lead and you can leave it plugged in at home. That's what I do.

@@metiniac No, it's not one of those devices that will allow you to jump start your car. It just charges/repairs/conditions your battery at home and needs an AC supply. Those jump start devices look useful. I have jump leads, but without another vehicle they aren't much use.

Thank you! Interestingly, I received a comment recently about radio frequency interference with these devices, although it didn't mention Wi-Fi specifically. The person who left the comment said that on many forums people were recommending the use of an RFI filter with these devices. Yes, I can imagine that the constant pulsing in repair mode will upset a lot of electronic devices!

@@fatboy9700 This doesn't sound right and mine doesn't do it. All I can hear is the whirring sound of the fan (no insects). Despite the high UK prices, these are cheap products and the quality isn't fantastic. Several people have reported electrical noise (not audible) that can interfere with other electrical devices. Yours may work OK with this sound, but possibly it will fail early. It's up to you, but in your position I'd be tempted to ask for an exchange if you have only just got it.

Hi ive got exactly same foxur model as your. Sadly that when i used them with my toyota camry.... right after that the knock sensor was fail. Yes it could and likely be just coincidence but anyway it scare me out to keep using this one, because ive pay quite a lot a lot to replace that sensor. So that now im switching back to my CTEK mxs 5.0 charger. >< Ive gave my foxur to my cousin and still no complain from him so it might be just my bad luck lol Just want to share my story ^^

Thanks for sharing and sorry to hear about this. I think it was just coincidence, but with these things you never know. When I do a regular charge I don't disconnect the leads from the battery. However, when I did a pulse repair I did disconnect the leads ... just in case. If your cousin doesn't have any problems, then the charger is probably OK. Thanks for your feedback!

HELLO - No you MUST Disconnect the battery (one termianl is sufficient) when using pulse repair, as the name suggests as much as 50 volts can be seen during this mode which will of course DAMAGE your car's electonic systems -

Good luck! If the battery is just suffering from sulfation the pulse repair function can be effective. However, if the battery has more serious problems it can't work miracles. I hope it works for you.

I thought it was a moderate review generally speaking, but I think that the instruction manual that comes with the charger is completely useless! because it doesn't tell you how to use it at all despite having translation in lots of different languages. The charger has a micro processor but it thinks it is so clever that it doesn't need to tell you how it works! Bring back clockwork! I am sorry for being so grumpy, but at least I know where I am with clockwork! Perhaps you could fill in the gaps?

This is the world we have created. We all want to buy lots of things at cheap prices and China has made this possible. But good instructions, user support, service, etc, has fallen by the wayside. It's the same with dash cams. Users try to figure things out for themselves in online forums because the documentation is so bad and people hack firmware to add features because manufacturers aren't interested. People like me spend our own free time making videos for no reward to try to provide more information, but our efforts are simply dismissed as being moderate. KZbin is a free and open platform to which anyone can contribute. I look forward to seeing your review which, of course, will be exemplary rather than moderate.

Thats not temperature of battery but temperature of ambient air, it has function where in cold weather conditions it charges battery with lower amperage ;)

The user manual says: "The LCD display will show battery voltage, charge current and inside temperature (Temperature is for reference only, allowed tolerance)." 'Inside' temperature is internal battery temperature, not ambient temperature. You're right, there is a winter and summer mode: "Charger detects the inside temperature, will switch to the appropriate voltage automatically." Notice it says 'Inside' temperature again, not ambient temperature. The temperature is measured electronically by measuring electrical resistance, which changes with temperature, and it is measuring the resistance inside the battery. Furthermore, while I was charging the battery the temperature readout fluctuated by about 10 degrees. This tells me two things. 1. It's not accurate (the manufacturer says it is for reference only). 2. The ambient temperature remained roughly the same throughout, so it's not measuring (and can't measure) ambient temperature.

The temperature indications in this charger are one big nonsense. They are in no way up to ambient temperature (and certainly not the battery). It is also not true that in winter mode it charges with a lower current. Temperature compensation only affects the final charging voltage, in winter it is higher. By the way - the temperature sensor is located on the display plate in the charger, unfortunately the readings from it were not well implemented.

To be honest, I wouldn't have known about this problem unless people had left comments. I've used it indoors and out on my driveway without any interference problems. However, now I am aware of the problem if I experience any interference problems next time I'm using it I will know why.

IF USING REPAIR MODE DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FROM THE CAR (no need to take it out) I do a video about Thai crap batteries which need regular distilled water (look down the glass sight to see if its red or blue on your GS masterpiece of Kee Nok) it's in my videos (look for Nissan fan repair) shows you what you need to do to make sure your so called "sealed" battery has not dried out in this freakin climate (hua hin/every 6 months) Rip off the long label and you will see some cell covers if dry you MUST top up with distilled water (I use water from my a/c) (true even for panasonic I'd never use the battery maker GS you have ) Jump starting does not put huge jolts into batteries (why would you think that the car's alternator charges at 14 volts, ?) BUT you must check the cell water level as that's that first base check unless wanting to get home fast. You don't need to use the chassis as a return lead, as the chassis may have some problem and resistance, what you need to do is check the battery is not drained by a small circuit or light. I got one of these charges it seems fine, jury is out on pulse repair. Leaving a battery discharged will kill it soon enough (below 11v)..................

Every battery I've bought has been sealed so I haven't checked. Thanks for the tip. The climate, especially the humidity, kills lots of things. My current battery is doing great. It's 4 years old and still good. Previous batteries haven't lasted as long.
