Literally teaching my students how to Google for sheet music is how I kept them excited about practicing, and frankly, having to figure some things out like transposing and difficult rhythms and looking up musical notations or asking about them made them WAY better musicians than if I assigned them random stuff they didn't care about.

I remember seeing this video and wanting to join band and play flute just because of Jaiden. Our band director had us name our instruments and I named my flute Jaiden. Today is our first preformance! UPDATE!!!! I just got 1st chair today! (For those who don't know, that means I'm the best player in my class) UPDATE 2!!! Yesterday was my first competition. We preformed on a fancy stage at a university and did awesome. I got to spent the rest of the school day at urban air with my best friends.

The whole "video game music" thing was how i kept up my skill with the trumpet during COVID. Also, i totally agree with the thing about pianists just playing classical. I played all sorts of stuff on the piano, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's like saying saxophone players can only play jazz music because saxophones are common jazz instruments. Any instrument can play anything, so long as the player knows how to play it well. Good video, Jaiden! I liked it! Music is a big part of my life, so thanks for sharing your experiences with it!

Jaiden’s flute experience when picking instruments is similar to mine back in sixth grade. I was asked to play a f cord without literally any knowledge or experience. I then played the flute for grades 7 and 8 but my breathing was so bad I could barely hold a note and I’m still surprised 5/6ish years later (last year of high school) that I passed that part of music class. Your reaction to the flute was also my reaction when I started playing the chromatic harmonica. I'm not that good yet; the first practice sessions I need to dedicate to practicing breath control. I remember in my 4th and 5th-grade years, we had this thing in my music class called "Recorder Karate". I don't know how common it is, but it's basically playing different songs on the recorder and winning a belt every time you mastered a song. The belts were noting more than colored string we put at the ends of our recorders or case zippers, but I had fun with it.

I’ve been playing the trumpet for about 3-4 years now and I absolutely ADORE band and music! It’s completely changed my goal trajectory for life (I now want to major in music in the future). I have violin lessons and we always have to stop right in the middle of a song because a few rooms down was this thing called "funK skool". It's basically where there's electric guitars and drums and trumpets interrupt the two other clubs happening at the exact same time. One of these clubs happen to be mine. So, I'm with ya, Jaiden. I had people blasting it on electric guitars while the two string orchestras are struggling to actually hear what they're playing.

Unfortunately, there happens to be a myth about Apollo and a flute. Basicly Athena made the flute, but was made fun of, so she put a curse on the flute and threw it onto Earth. This is where some poor dude picks up the flute and begins to play it. The flute has goddess breath in it, so it sounded pretty good. Then Apollo was like, "You think that flute playing is good?" So they had a contest, and were evenly skilled. Apollo, who chose a lyre, decided to turn it into a play-while-singing contest. Obviously the flute-player lost and was therefore died. THE END.

That "studying for test just to forget it immediately afterwards" hits close to home. We were 32 in our class and had a new maths teacher because our previous one got new classes to teach so she could no longer keep up with us as well. So anyway, up until the new teacher came, we were at worst passing with 4s. Now that we had a new teacher, 28 of us failed the grade. The next year we got another new teacher. :)

Haha I played the flute for 4 years and when I geriatric tried it out in 5th grade I made the sound and your reaction is how I felt. “I’m chosen, I shall do great things!” Heh I was the only on who played flute in my jr high band option. Though funny town was the jam, and I played Arrival to Earth along with Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi. Once I was past the classical stuff and found the soundtracks and songs in sheet music I was so freaking happy. I wish I could play the flute but I’m homeschooled this year lol. A few other of my classmates did band with me but I don’t know if they actually enjoyed it maybe one other but I know I had a blast. And I still know most of the notes and it’s been a year since I’ve played it. When I first went back to school after the heat of the pandemic (early 2021) I went into band picked up my good ol #13 flute(I had it since I’d started playing the flute) and boy I could play as if it hadn’t been a year and a half since I played. Band was fun I miss it.

I play flute in band right now. Honestly, when the band teachers say it’s hard to get you lips perfectly aligned and all of that stuff I swear it’s cap. When my dad (my band teacher lol) gave me a flute to try, I picked it up and made a noise. Now I have been told it might be your lip shape that helps but still, good job getting a sound out of it on your first try. My class didn’t get to try instruments like that cause that was 2021 and everyone was still paranoid of COVID. 😂

You have much more music experience than I have XD In my school they bought recorders (we payed, not the school) when I was in like 3rd grade, we learned some songs, and then our music teacher quitted. The new teacher decided that she wanted to do group projects. I learned nothing except for lyrics of two songs she wanted us to sing (we didn't because there was no time so it was a waste of time) and some crappy dance for one of the songs. I still play recorder though. Our first teacher was cool, the second one sucked.
