Walls/double diamonds are only really fun when they're very scarcely populated. At least to me. Because unless you do like. Daily maintenance sharpening your skis/snowboard, you're gonna have minimal control on those slopes that are very likely to be completely iced over. Which is fun when there's no one around cause you can just go NYOOOOOM, but if it's busy/foggy? Ya gonna run into someone bruv. No matter how good you are, sharp curves are basically impossible on those slopes, and your breaking distance to get to a full stop is like half a fucking mile. Which are your two options to avoid crashing into that snowboarder that decided to make a turn across the entire fucking breadth of the slope or that skier waiting for their friends to catch up in the goddamn middle of the slope. And no thank you, that happened to my Grandma and she was never able to ski again

I actually really loved this video because its very relatable, when I was 9 I went to a ski hill in Canada and man was that the most traumatic experience ever, my mom and her friend took us up the mountain not know how fricking high this thing was and then my brother started crying and I had a bloody nose :) 4 hours later were down the mountain and man I looked weird. everyone was staring at me and I realized I still had a ton of blood on my face. mind you I didn't have a jacket or gloves so I was just cleaning my bloody nose with my hoodie

Once something similar happened to me, I was skiing with my uncle and this was a 2 stop lift. One halfway up, one on the top. I didn’t realize this until my uncle got off on the halfway stop, guess who didn’t get off. So there was lil ~10 year old me, standing on top of a mountain. Alone. After a chat with the ski-lift operator i got to go back down, you know how it loops around? I got to go down it around the other side! Anyways I think I got off lucky with a lot less childhood trauma.

I had the same experience with skiing as you. (I live in Wisconsin though.) When I was a kid my sibling took me to the top of the mountain, and pressured me to go down the double black diamond (cause it was the only way down). The only problem is that it was at night, and because it was windy all of the snow blew off leaving just a sheet of ice behind. I took off my skis and tried to butt-scoot down the hill, but couldn’t slow down, and ended up going faster down the hill than I would have if I just skied down. Hurt my tailbone and didn’t get better for weeks. If you plan to go skiing, MAKE SURE THERE IS LOTS OF POUDER SNOW

Similar story that happened to me I was 10 and we were going skiing. I saw this ski lift and wanted to go on it. I looked up and saw how high it actually was. But stupid dad thought it was a small hill so he forced me to go up alone. I got to the top and cried for help. Eventually one of the staff watching me called for help and another staff came up with this skimobile. I got a ride down and was really angry at my dad for the rest of the day but also really embarrassed so I tried hiding myself the rest of the day because “I was a failure and didn’t even try going down” according to my 10 year old brain.

i had a pretty similar experience me and my brother were going on beginner and then we went on 1 that was 5 times as big and i asked "MOM IS THIS THE CORRECT ONE?" and she responds "wait WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE??!" so i ended up going down the mountain FULL SPEED thinking i was going to oof and as soon as i got too the bottom I StoPPED as HARD AS I COUld and it worked my familyw as proud of me , while my brother did the same but he somehow managed to go slower.

Winter used to be one of my favorite seasons, but ever since my 7th grade year, it has become one of, if not, my least favorite season. We had so much snow that we had one too many snow days. So, instead of getting out at 3:00 like usual, we got out at 3:05. Adding 5 extra minutes just to make up for 1 day. I will never forget that winter. Edit: This was in 2011.

Relatable. Me an my father, Australians, go skiing in Europe. Mainly Italy because of quality and value. One year we went to this resort at Madonna di Campiglio. Basically, the gondola that goes up one side of the valley, there are two main runs down it. One which is blue level (the lowest of the three tiers, blue, red and black. They're literally just those colours, nothing fancy like 'Double Black Diamond' or anything), and a more direct, red-to-black run. Now the black part... As a skier, I'm usually comfortable with black runs. They're fine and fun to ski down. However this one was different. There was 'Expert Skiers Only Past This Point' banners on the piste, and a chairlift to literally just go back to the top of the red part of the slope. (Those banners I knew were a warning sign because I'd not actually seen those before despite all the black runs I'd skied. Yes, I warned my father before continuing. Yes, he ignored me). There was a good reason for those banners, called maybe 30m (idk I was like 12 and terrible at estimating distance) of STRAIGHT UP 70 DEGREES SLOPE. the lead up was gentle, maybe 20,30 deg. Then it just DROPS. There were numerous people on the slope, the reason being they were all carefully stepping down, moving each ski one at a time, like going down stairs sideways. It was a good thing I followed suit. I witnessed multiple high-confidence skiers barrel down to the point they literally had airtime and all crashed by the time at the bottom. One of them was literally hospitalised (I watched the ambo pull up whilst still on the slope). Now thankfully, due to the lower traffic, there were no moguls or anything, so it wasn't hard to get down. Just traumatic (because yk, 30m of DEATH, pov of an 8yo) and slow. Thus I survived my 'wall'. Do all skiers experience this, as like a rite-of-passage? Or am I just trying to butter burnt bread LOL?
