Yep. I can handle situation 1 alright but in 2 they don't let me do anything no matter how much I plea or ask to help (despite them admitting I know the most about the subject.) and then get mad that I've done nothing. authors note: I get angry at group projects.

THANK YOU! Most of the boys in my 7th period are idiots who burp loudly just so us girls cringe away, and WHOOP DE DOO, A PROJECT WHERE THE MAX LIMIT OF GIRLS IS 2. I ended up with a group of 3 people, even though you're supposed to have 4, but our class was uneven. Obviously, there was one boy and two girls including me. The other girl was absent the second day of work, so I was stuck with the most annoying boy in the class. Since the other girl wasn't there, I ended up giving myself 3/4 of the work, and the one page essay (the last 1/4) to the guy. The day before it was due, he said that he hadn't started the essay! I was like, mint chocolate chip you (i swear in ice cream flavors). So, on my frikin BIRTHDAY, I did about 75 percent of the project. I just wanted to rant about this, if you're still here, thanks for listening.

I remember watching this as a middle schooler and remember laughing at the wild adventure, now as a junior in Graphic Design I’m genuinely shocked your project was JUST a video summarizing the chapter AND JUST 6 minutes for everyone…I had a group project last year and GOD. DAMN. I basically had a group project where 4 people needed to create an 8 PAGE ESSAY around Ancient Greek Entertainment. We each needed to have 5,000 words per section with scholarly sources and specific citation (which as a tiny reminder they didn’t TEACH any of us how to properly cite things in an essay). I can tell you I was in agony that entire project especially when it was one of the only projects in the class we got a grade for…I’ve never experienced any anxieties in my life before that but I legit had a panic attack when I first was trying to wrap my head around footnotes. It was rough. It also sucked knowing that I had to make sure that not only MY section was good, but EVERY OTHER SECTION had to be on that level or I’d likely get hit hard. It’s the only time I’ve been grateful that a class was pass fail

A few months ago for my Social Studies class we had to do a podcast about some lesser known stories of the American Revolution. It was a group project and it… well I’ll explain So at the beginning of the month of doing the project we got our groups assigned I was with a moderately okay group one was someone I was kinda friendly with. And another that I was getting to know. I didn’t know the other two. But the last one was a kid infamous for breaking rules and rebelling against any and all teachers. We’ll call this kid Ken (he’s important I swear) So we had gotten a few lessons on the first week about some lesser known stories and were to use the details in the podcast. So throughout the week one of the kids I didn’t really know was gone the whole week. So all of us are worrying about how we’re going to get in contact with him since none of us knew him that well. But we tried to pull through. It was decided that I would write the script for the podcast which was fine I could handle it. I planned it out and distributed the lines between us evenly that night and shared it with my group. But the following day the other kid I didn’t know very well said she was dropping out of our group to be in her friends group. I’m pretty sure she did not get permission for that. So guess who had to edit the entire script for the lines I gave her? So it’s now a week before it’s time to start recording and Ken decides he just wants to edit the audio and not even say anything inside it. Me and the one kid I was actually friendly with (who was Elected group leader btw) just were so over it that we didn’t care. But as we’re practicing the lines Ken actually had the gall to tell the teacher that “he feels his voice isn’t being heard” but thankfully all of us were immediately able to expose him and he was forced to get some lines. The kid who was gone all the shows up on the day we’re meant to record and our recording ends up being a mess. Thankfully me and the other two kids I knew who actually put effort in got a high grade I think Ken got a C

I use to like pair work but when I was younger but when I was in 6th grade ( I'm in 8th grade now) my science teacher gave our class a natural disaster project like storms or what ever and she paired us up in groups of 2 or 3 and the project was do in a 2 weeks. I got paired up with this kid named Issac and he failed every class somehow but anyway we decided to do a tornado slide show. The next day I texted him saying I got my information down and what about you be he responded saying he was on vacation for a week. So I had to do all of the project and after his vacation ended he decided to be a dick and erase most of my information. Two days before the project I checked to make sure I had everything but once I saw what happened I had to work on it on Sunday and the during school but what got me really ticked of was he didn't show up he was at his house changing everything while I was presenting since it was on google slides but he got in trouble since my teacher was on it too

Had to do a report with 3 other girls for class. One girl didn't show up to class, or respond to texts, for the entire 6 week period of the project. The day of presentation, she actually showed up, hadn't read the book, and was like "OK what's my speaking portion?" Professor sniffed out the issue and asked her to sit down after we got up to present 🤣

I literally love this video. I recently had a group project that my group cared about but they didn't care about me enough to tell me what they were even doing. At the time of presenting they threw me under the bus and told me I had to do it because they didn't "revise" the notes. But fortunately the teacher forgot about it and I was saved. They even opened another group without me because they weren't serious about the presentation. Ughhh I swear sometimes I hate teenagers smmm. All I know is that I'm not doing that presentation. Oh gosh. Flashbacks. This video gave me all of the group project trauma flashbacks. At least jaiden had a reasonable professor. I remember going to my teacher in high school when neither of the other members in my group would do ANYTHING. One of them even said he was failing the class anyway so he wasn’t going to work on this. When I pointed out we would ALSO fail he said he didn’t care. My teacher’s response to this was that I had to find a way to work with all kinds of people. She also told me she’d know if I just did all the work myself and she would fail me because it was a group project. She gave me the talk about how once I’m an adult I’d have to work with other people and get along with everyone. Which turned out to be NOT TRUE! You know what happens at a job if one person won’t work?! THAT person gets written up or fired. At no point in my adult life have I ever been responsible for peers in the way I was at FOURTEEN in that dang group project. (Yes, I do believe that teacher hated me, especially since she assigned the groups and had previously worked with my father who she did not like.)

I was the student of teachers at the school and this always worked one of two ways for me: if they liked whichever of my folks they worked with, they treated me great. If not… well. This particular teacher hated my dad’s guts because he got to teach the English class she wanted to teach. I am fully aware of how insane this sounds. I used to be a TA in college and this is pretty accurate.. it was so nice to only have to grade 1/3 or 1/4 of the number of assignments. It's also kinda about learning to overcome challenging situations with others (most professions will have you encountering difficult personalities at some point)

For digi tech, we had to (wait for it) get a partner, come up with and prototype an app in two weeks. The partner was randomized. So. Of course I had to come up with the app idea, and make the presentation myself while my partner kept fiddling with my mouse. My partner did actually none of the work. Nada. But what really annoyed me was how they passed it off as if they did their fair share as well, when I actually poured my heart and soul into this and was proud of the end result. It's so irritating when your partner gets the same mark as you when they did nothing, and made the experience frustrating.

Oh that's an interesting observation. We had comparable situations in school too. And to our surprise, our teacher told us that she was very aware of who was doing what and how much. She simply told us: "In this modern world, one (one!) of the most important abilities is to present yourself confidently and simply sell things / information to people. This is why a good presenter with mediocre results will always have a better grade as an awful presenter with excellent results".

In a GROUP project setting, I'm actually gonna stand up for the existence of the extrovert kid who did none of the work but can present. In 8th grade, my social studies teacher had us do four projects that we had to present in front of the class. I HATED that class for that very reason (even though I found the material she taught incredibly interesting). I used to be shy, and looking back on it I think I might have had some sort of social anxiety disorder? Not sure. I can speak in front of a group today with minimal issues, actually, but back then I practically had a full on phobia of presenting in front of the class. If I had the option of being paired up with someone who would let me do all the work and then go up on his/her own and do the presentation alone, I would have jumped on that like a cannibal on human meat. No, I once had the opposite happen in that class. The absolute WORST presentation was when we were supposed to do the presentation as sort of a game show (I don't remember exactly what the deal was), but not a single person in my four person group did ANY of their work except for me. So while every other group got to come up together--you know, AS A GROUP--my lazy partners got to stay at their desks and I had to go up ALONE. And rather than doing any sort of fun game show sort of thing, I had to just read off the questions and then the answers to the questions. I think there were 20 questions or something. It was so awkward, standing there reading from my paper while a class of 30-something kids just stared at me. I got to like the 7th or 8th question I think before the teacher was like "Okay, ARB, just sit down." That was one of the most embarrassing moments I ever had in school. Probably worse than when my desk fell over because it dragged out for so damn long.

Or the worst: Have two people totally disagree with each other and a completely passive person who doesn't want to step in and stop the fighting. That happened in one of my projects... Me and the other girl after I made a suggestion, the other girl loved it, then took and and ripped it in another direction I didn't suggest. She then crossed her arms, said it was her idea and they were doing it her way. She was going to type up all the questions for the survey and have us hand it out and we'd better not screw it up. The guy during it just sat there watching while I was trying to get it at least somewhat like my original suggestion.

I’m afraid I’ve been the nightmare person in a group project. The project was a presentation for Anthropology, about people we’d studied in their natural environment. The workload was split pretty evenly; each of us had a specific job to do, and mine was to write the discussion questions for our classmates. Unfortunately, when I was walking home one night, some maniac threw a water balloon from a moving car and nailed me in the head. Fun physics fact: hitting water at a high enough velocity is like hitting cement. Thanks to my newly acquired concussion, I wasn’t able to get any discussion questions written, and the rest of the group had to do my work for me. Thankfully, they weren’t mad at me for it. I ended up having to withdraw from the class, though, because all of the course material was online, and you’re supposed to minimize screen use while recovering from a head injury, so I quite literally couldn’t do any of the coursework.

Professors always say "group projects are supposed to prepare you for the working world after college by helping you understand what it's like to work with others and the difficulties that brings". Except in college if a student doesn't do any work in the group project they re-take the class and get a do-over. If their parents are paying their tuition it's basically a "woops my bad" and that's it. In the working world if you don't do your job you eventually get fired, starve to death, and lose your mortgage. They are not the same thing.

oh its been 6 years but i finally have a hillarious group project story; my final assignment for sound journalism is a group project that involves a group of three creating a podcast. we have to research, script, record, panel, edit etc. this podcast as a group of three, then write down a 1000 or so word mini essay basically critiquing our group -- what we did well, what we did poorly etc. my tutor is also the subject coordinator, so hes incredibly busy and doesnt tend to keep track of our names. this shot him firmly in the foot when he put me in a group with two people who were absent. both of their names are pretty generic, but to be on the safe side imma call them L and C i went 'okay, ill just write down their uni emails and ask for their contact details', and when i do that, C responds, stating he couldn't make it to class due to the recent floodings in nsw. i wish him the best and that i hope to see him in the next class. then L responds by saying that he dropped out of the class. okay, thats a bit odd but hey! its not like i dont know what class C is in -- wait a minute, i just said i was in this specific tutors class and didnt give the exact time. when C didnt show up the next week, i emailed him again, this time informing him i was in this specific time of class. that's when he blows my mind and tells me he will come to the class im in next week. i immediately pin the blame on my tutor, because hes supposed to apparently know everyone in his class or w/e -- i was angry jsyk -- to the point where i wrote an angry complaint in the student feedback survey. the next week, i email my tutor, basically begging him for an extension or special consideration or something, and he calls me. we chat for a bit and he says that if C didnt show up to class that day, wed figure something out. i explained to him the different class times situation, to which my tutor responds "oh, we can talk about that after class then". so i show up to class and... guess whos not there? i am mad and after class my tutor and i talk, during that he says hes gonna try to move me to a group, but to be careful bc i dont know how far it is. then i leave class and at 7:40pm - this class is at 5:00pm btw - i get a response from C saying that he was sick and that he will show up next week. fool me once and all that. i text him back saying that the tutor and i have already discussed what im doing and that he should probably do the same, and that i wished him the best. i got put in the new group - and they aren't as far along as my tutor thought they were gonna be -, and C hasn't been in this class for the last week and a bit. huh.

Honestly same. We started the project in school, I brought all the research notes made a concept and then got sick. Not that I didn't trust my randomly assigned group but... Did whole project alone with fever and strep throat destroying me, because I had a premonition... And yes, the whole two weeks I was home, they haven't done a single thing. Our art teacher literally put aside 3 hours of his class so everyone could work on this project at school. And if they just took the written notes and pasted it next to some doodles, I wouldn't have said a thing. But no, not a single smudge of pencil was added... So I just threw them under the bus. Chad was a champ and just went: fair. Karen... Oh boy, she was witching about it for months.

I hated group projects too but mostly because I was the person that didn’t do shit. Not because I didn’t care, or at least didn’t care about the group members, but because I didn’t know what the fuck to do half the time and they never told me what to do, or gave me anything to do. I always felt bad and useless.

Honestly I was going through this video (I know it's an old video) But I agree with you and I am so glad you got and gave yourself the credit you deserved. You truly did and should not have even given them audio credit because sayin the odd few lines is what you asked them to do. They wanted you to do all the work and hope to get at least half the credit. I can bet you they we're both probably in on this or genuinely didn't like each other, either way messed up and I'm sorry you had to do all of it.

UGH I HATE GROUP PROJECTS! I got in one project with this girl, and omg, terrible partner. 5 Robins. In order it's Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown before she was Batgirl, and Damien Wayne. Also there are 3 Batgirls, Barbra Gordon, Cassandra Cain, and Stephanie Brown. Oh wait! I forgot Carrie Kelly, she's the 6th Robin. And then there's Terry McGinnis who was the 2nd Batman in the Batman TAS universe while Bruce was keeping an eye on things from The Batcave. I guess you can also count The Justice League..... you know when you really look into it, Batman rarely works alone.

Same experience, but in middle school. It was a french project (im currently preparing my B2 exam). My group was constantly trying to force me translate their researches (they just copied and pasted from wikipedia) even if they already used google translate. I ended up modifying all the translated researches because they had no sense, so i ended up creating a whole different translation. I finished at 3 am. The following day my team began to complain about the translation and i answered saying that was the result of not caring about the project and forcing me to do the whole thing Sorry for my english (i'm still learning)

In the 5th grade we had a group project in our English class I believe? I was with people I disliked. I didn’t even do anything because I honestly just wasn’t in the mood to and they were all like “oMg yOu’Re NoT dOiNg AnYtHiNg” and they weren’t either because they were searching up weird things on Google rather than doing the project. Btw they were the ones who have bullied me throughout my elementary years which is why I didn’t want to help them. I moved schools in 7th grade and I hope each of them are suffering in high school rn. I’m in my sophomore year right now.

Group projects are good for bonding/team building. They're not good for evaluating individual performance of people for their degree. Because of this exact reason. Also those girls also probably won the lottery, became models or lucked out in some other way... They seem like the sort that just leach off the hard work of others :( or they work in a shop, as that's the apex of their abilities.

I wish every person who had this opinion would be put in the same class. I'm sure they would then discover the blessing of group projects since collaborating with like minded people can actually be a great experience! ^^ But I DO hate doing group projects with both people much less committed than me AND with very ambitious people too!😅 Being in a group of only clever people make me feel dumb, slow and unnecessary which is sometimes worse imo, than having to lead a project for a group of dumb, slow unnecessary folks since you can then just take all the work on yourself and get credited for your great effort, even tho' you didn't necessarily do GREAT on every part of the project xD
