Yep. A CFW PS3 is a dream console, almost all your PS2 games will work on top of being able to fully play any PS1 or PS3 game (including PS2 HD remasters), all fully region unlocked. Then there is the full CD, DVD and Bluray support for people who love physical movies and music albums. And you don't need any Retrotink, HDMI adaptors or CRT TVs. It's the console I recommend the most now, especially the early Slim PS3s because they have CFW support and don't YLOD like the phats.

@@crazyfloof You can, but the one i got pretty much is the whole deal. Its got a 2TB HDD, the entire NTSC library of games, an emulator with over 2K games ranging from Atari2600 to N64, Online capabilities with insignia, I deleted a bunch of sports games that i knew i would never play anyway & now i still got around 60Gb left incase i want to install homebrews and such. Really awesome stuff to be honest. Currently looking to get a second hardmodded one for my Gameroom so i can run system link games on the Dual CRT Setup + play online with guests when they are over.

CFW'd or jailbroke most of the PS3s I've ever owned, including my CECHA00. Awesome being able to play PS2 games as ISOs either on the console or across the network via OPL. Less wear and tear on the Blu-ray drives.

PLEASE READ. Stumbled upon your channel a couple months ago. Love your content. Long story short. Kinda. I grew up on the PS2 and Xbox (still own). When it came time to upgrade, my parents bought me the Xbox 360. Upgraded again to the Battlefield 1 edition of the Xbox One and now I'm on the Xbox Series X. Anyways...my sister and her husband were recently visiting from Jersey and my brother in law wanted to play GTA IV. It's backwards compatible on the Series X. My brother in law has a PS5. For Christmas, I'm surprising my brother in law with A PS3 and the complete edition of GTA IV with all 3 games. KEEP UP THE GREAT CONTENT.

Hey just to note all ps3 can be jailbroken, after a certain slim model you can use PS3 HEN. Earlier model can use custom firmware but at the end of the day HEN method, can do the same thing or 98% custom firmware

I did this recently mostly because I wanted to rip my disc games on to the hard drive. I'm playing a lot of Guitar Hero and Rock Band again and it's nice just to have them all on the drive ready to go and not having to seek the disc drive constantly.

Got a ps3 for 2000yen about 2 months ago. Was a great experience pulling it apart to clean it and put new thermal paste on it, and then learning all the stuff you just went through to jailbreak it and put all the necessary things on it too. Wish the console had sata2 instead of sata1, would have made an amazing modded console with an SSD

It depends on your model number, and there's only two ways to mod the PS3, and both are pretty easy if you do the right research!

If you can't install CFW, HEN is still an option. It doesn't have some of the more deep customization options, but it gets you 90% of the way there.

I jailbroke my PS3 a couple months ago and it works flawless, the Apollo Save tool is something that I must install, I need to get 100% completion on some games which I play with my siblings and none of us wants to go through the effort to finish the whole game from the beginning, we just want to have all characters and have a fun time. PS3 is still a lot of fun and it gets better every time I get to play it. I also love PS4 which is the last console I will have, will not get a PS5 because of how boring it is, I can play PS5 games on my PC at native 4k 60fps with a PS4 controller and I'm good.

I remember being a kid and wanting a ps3 so bad because my friend had one amd i used to play games like gta 4 and that snowboarding game i forgot the name of. Me and my younger brother decided to save money. Mostly our birthday money. In 2010 we finally had enough. And we got to media market with my dad and stepmom where we got a ps3 slim with the cod black ops 1 bundle. Amd i still play this old thing to this day. I am planning on finally buying a ps4, tho.

I have the PS3 Super Slim in black and red and as of today also a FAT Lady. The FAT has already been cleaned by the seller and the thermal paste has been replaced. I also have a Nes and Snes as well as a PS2 but I like the PS3 best.

Actually you can upgrade you PS3 storage up to 500gb SSD but if put a one with more storage like 1tb it may cause some issues

I think safe files were at least linked to your handle so you can't use someone else's game safe with out modding it. There is a game genie for ps3 you can buy.

Of all the games i backed up i tested everyone and the only one i had an issue with was timesplitters 2. Playstation 2 logo boots then blank. Delete file and tried 2 more times. Same result. Others reported the same issue for this particular game

@maryatillo3764 perhaps. I read it's due to the format it has issues with multiman. There's a work around but I'm not going to bother. Success rate is over 98% when backing up games so you can't go wrong with that at all

Try the PS2 Compatibility list if you want to play PS2 games. There is a whole list of games that the devs have tested. So which ever game you want to try out, check the list before copying the PS2 game of choice.

Most people don't know this but a lot of PS2 games will need a config file to work properly. Game is fully playable with no issues as long as you have a config file. Aldo's Tools PS2 Configs.

This might be the middle road I've been looking for. Thermal paste was not designed to last 15 years (Slim released in 2009). Opening the system up and cleaning, paste change, is a must, delid CPU/GPU may also need to be done. The thermal paste under the IHS is also 15 years old as well.
