Jakarta Has Changed: For Good 🇮🇩
On my second visit to Jakarta - the vibrant Indonesian capital- I noticed that the city has changed for the better. 7 years ago, main roads were under construction, and the city metro was not finished yet. The city was overcrowded, busy, dirty, and not very attractive. Things have changed, and it's all good.
In this video, I explain in detail why you should not book a flight from Seoul to Jakarta with a layover in Shanghai. I didn't plan my trip correctly, waiting until the last moment to book my flight, so the price of all direct flights has skyrocketed.
Despite the long flights and the adventure of connecting to the Internet in China, arriving in Jakarta was smooth as butter. The hotel was amazing, and after a refreshing night, I'm on my first day exploring Jakarta between business meetings.
First impressions - the city is up-and-coming, with many new high-rise buildings, improved infrastructure, and marvelous metro service. Flashy shopping malls, fantastic rooftop restaurants with delicious food, excellent service, and affordable prices - Jakarta is to be discovered!
I'm super excited for my 10 days in Jakarta. This is just the start; let's explore the amazing Indonesian capital.

Thank you for the tips, I will check out Chao Chao resto next time I go to Jakarta. One thing for transiting at Shanghai Airport that if you use I-phone you can not connect to the WIFI. You have to use Android to get the WIFI 🙂

many new roads/express ways for surrounding suburbs (outer ringroads) have been built for past few years easing Jakarta congestion as the cars are having option to not pass Jakarta if they want to cross to another suburbs (example Depok to Airport via South Tangerang)

I live in Jakarta, right at the center of the city. I'm loving it here. Many places to visit and things to do. For travellers I think it is pretty affordable. You can find food and lodging at wide price range from cheap street food to five star fine dining. Same with lodging. Despite the notorious traffic, the government is working hard to improve public transportation by building MRT, LRT, BRT, and improve walkability.

I was a tourist and on a business trip to Jakarta, I can only speak from that perspective. I did talk to some locals and they also think the city is getting better. You should ask this questions somebody who’s local, I cannot speak on their behalf :)💛

just so you know. the current Government installed an AI in several traffic lights last year so yeah ... though it just helps to reduce traffic in small percentages (they said 5% - 15%) but it helps a lot. anyway .... "Borneo" is an island, we often call it as Kalimantan

Not worth it! Traffic is horrendous not just in Jakarta but other cities as well, Bandung, Surabaya and most importantly smoking is out of control. Even non-smoking hotels reek of cigarette smoke, everywhere. I saw so many young children smoking. Yes it also happens in America but over time cigarette smoking has reduced in America.

Yes. Jakarta now is not nice at all. Even I hate living in Jakarta. The people are not nice at all. Most motorists use this big special muffler which they call brong muffler. This muffler will shoot black smokes to the face of the people who happen to be behind the motor.

Never seen this smoke you are talking about. I do see a problem with the moto bikes and all the fumes from it, it's not very healty to ride a bike and inhale the poluted air. Hopefully, more people will switch to electrical bikes when they become more affordable.

Jakarta is a dynamic city. If you have money, you can eat in comfortable, cozy places, like the ones in the video. But for those who want cheap food because to save money you buy food on the side of the road, that's an option. You can also stay in an apartment or hotel in a good area if you have money. Jakarta is a business city, not the main tourist destination in Indonesia. So money is an important thing in Jakarta. If you don't have money, don't expect to be able to live well in Jakarta.
