In Indonesia the spoon is supposed to act like a knife while you hold the meat with the fork. The reason behind this is that we don't have many big chewy food like steak where you have to really use a knife for it. If we do have to eat something chewy in our food it's usually already pre cut into bite sized pieces where the knife would be then unecessary to use. For more complicated foods like crabs we just wash our hands thoroughly first and use them instead. This is how i as an Indonesian would understand it. Have fun exploring Indonesia!

Thanks for showing me the parts of Jakarta that I've never seen. Menteng and Tanah Abang are the financial high-rise capital of Indonesia and so unlike the rest of the country. In the center of big cities like Bandung or Jogjakarta the tallest buildings are a dozen stories and there are just a handful of those. You are always going to be noticed and stared at in Indonesia but don't take it for unfriendliness. Everywhere I went people asked personal questions and, of course, everyone wanted to get a selfie with me. The spoon and fork thing is also common in other parts of SE Asia. Your meal had a lot of protein: fried egg and bakso and chicken. Much more common would rice and vegies and one type of meat.

Parman Avenue with 1,5 kms square, PIK 1/2 CBD at North Jakarta and Tangerang-Banten Surabaya has more skyscrapers but not as many as Jakarta also Medan, Batam,Balikpapan and Makassara well, Bandung and Yogyakarta can not have many bcoz both city have tectonic and vulcanic earthquake potentials I believe, CMIIWW

Here some tips : 1. i suggest you learn basic word/conversation in indonesian language, and you can ask people to help you here. 2. always prepare yourself with tissue, because not all public toilet have them. 3. always ask/tell your spicyness level of your food before you order on low-mid restaurant / street food. because mostly of them normaly serve food with spicy. 4. about dress, we consider long pants was formal dress for public routine and indonesian woman aware about sun tan, they dont like skin being tanned. 5. some people will ask you for photo/selfie, it just normal, they want to be friendly with you. 6. some people will ask you for name, where you came from, your age, married or not, your job etc, sound like intrograting, don't be blame them, its normal here, they using that topic just for chitchat, they want to start friendly talk from that topic, although they will forget it later. hahaha :D 7. about people staring you, yes you are right, more remote area more are starring you, dont be insult by them, it just because they stunning by your beauty. just stay chill. :D i hope you enjoying your travel in indonesia, take more time to explore every place you have to visit, and again indonesia is full of surprice experience (in positif way), ^_^

17:52 Spoon is typically used for any type of rice dishes, it's the common way of eating. Even with fried chicken, people will normally use either fork + spoon or their hands to rip the flesh.. or both in conjunction. You'd be surprised to learn this but this is the normal custom for Indonesian here (as an Indonesian myself). I believe the eating culture of using spoon + fork was brought by the Dutch. Also, I think many modern restaurants might serve knives but try ask for one next time you visit another restaurant. Chance is small if you go to local restaurant instead ("rumah makan", "warung" etc.).

Good to know that you like Jakarta, I appreciate how you started your vid with the historical background of Jakarta, and you have already visited those main landmarks, try also MRT one day, it is now expanded to the north until the old town, currently under construction. What you ate in Bakso Lapangan Tembak (my favorite eating place) was fried rice, famous Indonesian dish, and those in the avocado juice is brown sugar, not chocolate, We rarely use knife, only spoon and fork because we rarely eat meat😅 just kidding, but this is our normal daily practice, we sometimes just use our fingers!. Look forward to your next video exploring more about Jakarta.. safe travel and keep healthy.

The last time I went home and walked around a lot, I was also stared on. So yes, being a non- Indonesian will attract more attention,but also the fact that you walk around is also not something most people would do. And you’re spot on, what you wear also matter. Aside from religion and being conservative aside, Indonesians wear more layers/ non skimpy clothes also due to how we try our best not to get tanned from the harsh equatorial sun in Indonesia. That elevated tunnel going across the street that was in the form of square frames arranged as a spiral was interesting. You may have to visit the caves Japanese hid in and the one where they found Java Man! I think Java Man was the missing link between Australopithecus and the Neanderthal or something. And I am pretty sure there was some intense WW2 action in Indonesia, the Battle of the Java Sea was just off the coast. In recent times there have been problems with diving scrappers looting the US, Australian, and Dutch ships sunk there, they are protected as war graves, but the bronze propellers off USS Houston disappeared along with an entire Dutch ship Awesome video, Alina! 👍😊🇨🇦🇺🇸

Hi welcome to Jakarta, hope you will enjoy your stay here. Jakarta is not really a tourist destination city compared to other city in Southeast Asia like Bangkok for examples. So you won't see much tourist around and things can feel bit out of place and confusing sometimes because lack of information of what to see and how to get there. But local government are fixing it I'm sure, improving the area and rebranding it with the hope it could become more hospitable or tourist friendly. Compared to few years ago, Jakarta is actually a nicer place now specially in the downtown area. If you have enough time you could visit a beautiful thousand islands not far away from Jakarta's shore. A nice beach retreat before you going to Bali or other area. Regarding avocado Juice, most Indonesian only know Avocado as fruit that used in juices and dessert, compared to western world specially US or Canada who are get used with avocado in savory dish due to Mexican's cuisine influence like Guacamole. So just like how you surprised finding Avocado in the sweeter side, my mother also have the same reaction when I introduced her to savory dish using avocado. A real cultural exchange 😃.

Hi SpellOnYou, but the lack of tourists compared to Bangkok can actually be a good thing in one way as you get a more authentic feel for the host country. 2019 pre-pandemic ASEAN visitors. Indonesia and Philippines need help to bring up their visitor levels. Thailand - 39.80 million. Malaysia - 20.1 million. Vietnam - 18 million. Singapore - 15.9 million. Indonesia - 13.62 million. Philippines - 8 million. Cambodia - 6.7 million. Myanmar - 4.3 million.

At the weekends you will see the people of Jakarta out crowding the city, because on the weekends it's time for them to take a holiday from work, go to tourist attractions, malls, and city parks and on Sunday mornings they exercise on the city's main road Sudirman - Thamrin Street which is closed for vehicles from start to finish. 7 to 10 am or called Car Free Day..
@ahmadtameem63122 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alina for the video...your video is entertaining and informative. You are right as you said there are no many tourist visiting Jakarta, so you are quite unique. And I appreciate you for doing the research before came to Jakarta and respect the local culture, by the way your dress is quite modest as a westerner, some Jakarta girls wear less clothes than you especially in mall or clubs. By the way, the street you were walking was not precisely Menteng area, but it is jalan Thamrin (named after Jakarta's hero Muhammad Husni Thamrin). Thamrin street and Sudirman street is the center/heart/flagship of Jakarta so the government makes that area looks beautiful. Menteng is a residential area, where some old houses from the Dutch colonial era still exist and where old richest Jakarta's citizens live, located not so far from Thamrin street. GBK Park will be crowded after office hours in weekdays and early in the morning and late afternoon in weekend. When you said you looking a well rated restaurant in GBK, I thought you looked for Plataran a premium restaurant there, surrounding by greeneries Hutan Kota (The Jungle of the city), not expecting Bakso Lapangan Tembak, which is very local thats why no tourist. If you still in Jakarta try visit Thousand Island with beautiful beaches and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, the miniature of Indonesia where you can learn all cultures of all provinces in Indonesia, which was just renovated. So... its time for me to SUBSCRIBE your channel.... Safe flight to Bali, and Lombok and Labuan Bajo (they are closed to Bali and as beautIful as Bali) that I recommend you to visit.

Glad to see your adventure in Indonesia! While you are in Jakarta, I suggest you try eat at the warungs along Jl. Sabang, specially after the sun down. There are plethoras of differend kind of food in that small area.

Jakarta is where you can find the iconic landmarks such as Monas, The Merdeka Palace, The National Museum, Istiqlal Mosque, The Jakarta Cathedral, and Monumen Selamat Datang or the welcome monument widely renowned as Bunderan HI.

Amazing what you find when you go to a new location. As you know I enjoy the food trials a lot that you always share, and this was no exception. Strange culture, how too fit in the crowd , but interesting for sure. Can't wait when you get into everything more deeply, I would agree that Jakarta is a great place and a must see for anyone. Stay safe there and looking forward to the many things you share in this trip. I am home now from the hospital, and on the mend good and able to work some now. Keep smiling!! Cheers!!!❤😊👍😎

Welcome to Indonesia! Indonesian in Canada here :) 1) Spoon n fork situation: since most of the meals contain rice, we’re using spoon to scoop em easier.. (also if you’re right handed, spoon is on the right, fork is to help you pushing the food to the spoon). 2) Locals staring: yup indeed, we’re still lacking foreign tourists (especially in non-downtown/ central Jakarta area). But the locals are suuuper kind! Don’t hesitate to ask for help or say hello to them. Google translate might help breaking the barrier as well :) Enjoy the rest of your stay! Will follow your next vids!
