Part of Jake being subdued is probably because he doesn't want to draw too much attention to the fact that he knowingly abetted someone in escaping from jail (not that I disagree with what Jake did, but probably not too smart to be loud about it in the middle of the police station).

@@RogueBlackOp Jake doesn't hate Boyle's antics though. The final episode proves it. You don't have to love each part of your friend for you to have a healthy relationship. All you need is just this trusting relationship that you know you can rely on them through thick or thin. the PB and J friendship is a beautiful one, but it's definitely lacking trust. The two of them are on edge with each other, despite them jiving so well together. There's a certain friendship that can be extracted from that, sure, but unlike Boyle who actually is supportive every step of the way, with _interesting_ ways to show it, he actually shows trustworthiness. Hence why Boyle might be the better best friend, but equally valuable friendship with PB&J

Well the point here is more like Doug is a reformed man, and he got even pardoned, except for one area he didn't even know about, waaay back some years ago, so anyone with minimal gray matter would understand that there's no good enough reason for Doug to be in jail now that he's a reformed man and didn't commit any crime anymore. That's probably also why Jake decided to set him free giving him the pin

Why do I feel like Jake gave the final call to Judy hoping he'd choose to stay and face the consequences of his actions. Despite the chances of him escaping (which he did), he still tried to make him own up to his crimes. At the end of the day, Jake was a friend first -cop second.
@bdletoast09
@bdletoast09 9 ай бұрын
Because even if he's (despite the appearances) a stickler for the rules, Jake also recognizes that the judiciary system in his country is broken and that Doug's petty crimes don't justify sending him the hell hole that is a prison (especially after Jake experienced prison himself and knows how poorly treated inmates are, disregarding the reason they're here). Doug's whole point during this episode was that even if he likes Jake and they're friends, being a cop in that day and age makes him part of a system of opression even when he's a decent guy. Doug Judy is by no mean a saint, and it may be unfair that he escaped any form of repercussions for his crimes, but his friendship with Jake reads far more real to me with that conclusion that it did before.

Lots of shows that get cancelled without finishing their run return after a couple years. But B99 has gotten to the end of its run naturally, and with the BLM / police reform etc themes of this season, the show is essentially questioning its very foundation as a show about good cops. Its time has come and it knows it.

True that many shows return, but 99? Its ending because as Andy (Jake), the directors, and various other members of the cast and crew, have stated the show is ending because they dont feel good about it anymore. They feel its morally wrong to keep making the show. And because of that, if the show ever did return, they'd have to do it without most of the team we love behind it, cause they dont wanna do more than this finale season. Its over

When Jake said "tiger and touc" at the end, he realized maybe being a cop is no longer suitable for him. He just set free Doug Judy a convict. The episode after this one, he is suspended for making the wrong arrest. Even though he is good at solving cases, Jake might be too sentimental and impulsive at times to be a good cop. @@secondaryaccount686 true but to be fair, it wasn’t like Judy was dangerous? He got arrested for an old crime and was probably going to spend years in jail for something he already understood was wrong and tried to atone for. Plus, Jake knows what it’s like to be in prison and wouldn’t feel comfortable putting one of his best friends in prison for something he’d done a long time ago
@Raydnt69

@@secondaryaccount686 Maybe thats why his attitude here is a little off. I would assume he would sound more happy about talking to Judy again but no I think Jake is kind of having a moral dilemma, he helped a man escape from prison but he also helped his good friend go free

I love how Judy has to pull out all his best manipulations and tricks to get one over on Jake, but for any other cop all he needs is a pen. And I love that Jake knows Judy is so brilliant that he can just give Judy that pen and he'll be alright.

The Types of Friends Jake has: _Boyle_ -> That Friend who accompanies you even to go to the bathroom. Sometimes cloying but you can count on him at all times. _Terry_ -> Act like your surrogate brother/father. Making sure you don't do stupid things... in a row. _Rosa_ -> There is the mystery of the meaning of life and THE mystery of how they became friends. Even so, they share certain tastes to continue being friends. _Gina_ -> Childhood friend who knows you well and who, despite taking different paths, are still in contact. _Hitchcock and Scully_ -> Those weird friends that you occasionally talk to. _Pimento_ -> Friend who has his own stories. They are interesting to hear but you definitely DON'T want to be a part of them. _Doug_ -> Party buddy, you always have fun with him but you know you can't close relate to him because at some point they might do something really stupid. _Caleb_ -> The friend you met on a trip. From time to time you see it because it's nice but you don't share the same tastes. _Kevin_ -> Husband of your adoptive Father who you only knew but you already have a certain affection for him _Raymond_ -> Your adoptive father _Amy_ -> Wife

That is the problem Paul. Look... I will be the first to admit that Doug Judy grew on a me a bit because he was so likable and over time he did do some good things like saving Jake's life but the fact remains he was still a criminal and apparently liked being one because he never changed for the better. Jake on the other hand is a cop and as a cop his duty should have come before their so-called friendship and anything else between them. It is not his fault that Judy chose to be a criminal and continued being one throughout their entire relationship but it is his fault for failing to do what he swore to do as a law enforcement figure.
@NotleGaming

@@xyPERSON aghhh Jake helped Judy escape because Judy saved Jakes life...its that simple. Cops are swore to protect and serve the public and Jake does that everytime and furthermore Jake did not fail to do his Job
@xyPERSON
@xyPERSON 2 жыл бұрын
@@NotleGaming Jake did fail to do his job because he allowed a criminal to go free. At some point people have to be held accountable for their actions and by choosing to let Judy go Jake only helped him to continue avoiding accountability and responsibility. Another term for this is ENABLING.

@@xyPERSON Jake did not fail to do his job...he helped Judy escape after he had done his job which was waiting for back up to take Judy to jail.... and in all fairness Judy did save Jakes life and I know that's the only reason he helped him escape cos Judy could have escaped and let Judy die.
@orsomethingorno
@orsomethingorno 2 жыл бұрын
@@xyPERSON What show are you watching? Completely missing the point. Remember how Doug's life went: after crimes in his youth for which he did his time, he found himself unemployable and turned to car theft to survive. He was never violent. Eventually he was caught, and helped the police bring down far worse criminals. He attempted to get out of the criminal world, but kept being dragged back in by genuinely nasty criminals; continuing to help Jake (or to use Jake to get out of his jams, or some combo of the above). He struggled to entirely escape the life, but eventually at his stag party he used Jake's dumb sense of duty to eliminate some of his worst old "friends" from his life. He was settled into an entirely clean life, when he was arrested for a crime 25 years earlier. Jake's always battled between his duty to the law (and enthusiasm for catching baddies), and seeing Doug for who he really is -- a fundamentally good person. In this season, the circumstances in the past year or so around BLM, police brutality etc (as especially expressed in his friendship with Rosa, who quit the force) are making Jake fundamentally question the limits of his duty. He is trying to be a good guy in a fundamentally broken institution, and as a person who knows what prison is like, he comes to the conclusion that, regardless of his duty and his instinct, he cannot condemn someone to prison who does not deserve it.

Unpopular opinion (and SPOILER ALERT!): I wish this episode had ended differently. In my head I had an idea of Jake getting a hold of some legal buddies (maybe even Judy’s wife) and finding some legal loophole to get Judy out cause the guy didn’t deserve to go to prison after trying to go straight. I hated that Jake felt like he had to break his code and help a guy escape prison and just by seeing how guilty he felt after hearing that it work (combined with being a Dad) is also what probably pushed him off the force. I would’ve loved to see him mature even more throughout the season and the end with him still leaving the 99, but for his dream job in the FBI, more serious and mature about his role as an agent and a Dad because yes, they would’ve been able to figure that out.

So I’ve been doing nothing but binging this whole show for the last 2 weeks for the first time and I just got done watching this episode and is it just me or does season 8 feel different? Like it’s not bad necessarily it just feels different. Like with Kevin and Holt splitting up and having some problems with their relationship, Rosa not being a cop anymore, Jake and Amy having a hard time being parents and cops at the same time, Jake and Doug’s goodbye feeling bittersweet, the whole war between cops and civilians which I know they only did that to mirror real life. I just feel like things are falling apart in this season and every thing in this show feels like the world is ending.
