Shame we won’t see a 90’s hair band cover band bus get tortured this year at the holidays, but a Jake rebuild will suffice. Keep er between the mustard and the mayo. Gotta say, Peg will be pissed- there were 0 cans of Cosby in a can used on that old start cold start.

A Jacobs brake takes potential energy and expels it out the exhaust. You only need to use them when necessary. As when the exhaust valve opens, it causes the piston rings to relax rapidly. Normally you should not have a problem. In some cases and with a worn piston ring (top). It can snap the ring over time.

Loved the video! I had jaks on the 8v71 on the GMC bus we redid (inside and out) for a close friend of mine. I never have had jaks apart. Put power steering and an allison 740 in it to make it a lot more user friendly for my friend. Gave the 8v71 a once over including running the overhead. They used that bus for about 8 years with minimal problems mainly radiator, fan belt, and wheel bearing issues.

A trick with those damn internal snaprings I have found if it doesnt wanna line up right you can get it 3/4 of the way seated and use a flathead to tap it into the groove. Once its in you can verify that its actually seated all the way round by pushing on one of the ears with a flathead - if it spins in the groove without binding you know you are good!
