Tucked away among the gentle, rolling hills of western Pennsylvania’s farm land sits a turn of the century horse ranch…and recording studio.
The lazy Amish carriages that meander by, or anybody else for that matter, is none-the-wiser to the presence of a rock ’n roll legend hard at work on his passion project: Red Dragon Cartel’s second studio album release.
That Just Happened was granted access to Obscenic Arts Recording Studio for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of “Patina”. Enjoy a quick look at our chat with the venerable Jake E Lee!

I am saying it right now-Jake was the best guitar player Ozzy EVER played with on pure ability and melodic feel. Randy and Iommi are rightfully legends that were on the more "classic" releases but Jake was on a whole other level and IMO the best lead guitarist of the 80s. He also says it like it is and is a true artist........make what you want to hear and hope people love it, but stay true to yourself and the art....Jake was the best. Wish him nothing but success and I am happy he is doing what he wants to do.

Jake was in a sink or swim situation with Ozzy. Jake is a good player and very much under rated but saying he is better than Randy Is a wild stretch of word's to be sure. Where do you think guys like jake got his ideas from. EVH & RR is where. He just made it his own which is what they all do.

Man, when Jake E Lee hit the scene, it was like a revelation. I already worshipped Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads and Robert Fripp, he completed my guitar heroes. I remember the Bark at the Moon tour in early 1984, me and my buddies Mark & Gary were all guitarists, we spent extra money just to have good seats to watch Jake all night. He was and still is the ultimate in cool. 👍

Jake came to Jersey about 2 years ago and I was so fortunate to be up close and see him. I've never ever ( and this is a coming from a guy who has seen everyone) seen anyone play that great in person and for so long. He was up there for over 2 hours, while me and my friends 10 years his Junior are almost nodding off at 1 am. He truly is amazing, and think he always felt second best to Randy Rhoads. Jake, in my eyes, and I think I can speak for others, you are Randy's equal in terms of what you brought to OZZY and to us as a guitarist. I also loved that he said, "I make music that pleases me". That always makes a guitarist play so much better. Furthermore, we are all so fortunate to still have one of the all-time greats left for our kids to enjoy.

So they are coming out with a new album. Patina is kind of a weird name but I love Jake. Not too sure about the first RDC album. Need to go back and listen to it again. When I heard Jake on That Metal Show I didn't think he sounded very good. Either he was very rusty or his style has completely changed. I hope he hasn't changed that much.

@russellszabadosaka5-pindin849
@russellszabadosaka5-pindin849 6 жыл бұрын
The1WhoKnowsTheTruth & Gary Miller: you're both right. Criss Oliva was another God. Savatage's Sirens and Power Of the Night blew my fuckin head off in high school. Then a few years later, Testament changed everything for those of us who were into thrash and hated hair metal because Testament was heavy as fuck but more melodic than Slayer. Perfect combination. I still follow Alex Skolnick, he played at the Allan Holdsworth tribute earlier this year and was amazing.
@The1WhoKnowsTheTruth
@The1WhoKnowsTheTruth 6 жыл бұрын
Russell-Lets not forget Chris Caffery (he truly loved Criss). There are very few riffs that define what Metal is all about but the "Power of the Night" riff just makes me feel it bigtime. That was Criss, he made you feel it. "Raise the Fist of the Metal Child!" Gary-The problem that Jake will have in creating another Badlands is finding a singer on the same level as Ray Gillen. They just don't exist anymore. That is kinda the problem with his Red Dragon Cartel project, singer just is not up to snuff. Jakes playing is still killer. \m/

That was actually a Fender Stratocaster body and neck,but Jakes friend painted it white and had the Charvel sticker and put it on the headstock,you can find the articles online where Jake talks about this,he worked in a music store in San Diego and went through a whole bunch of Strats until he found one that he liked and gutted it,had it painted white and installed a Seymour Duncan "JB'' pickup in the bridge and some SD single coils,he also talks about why he never used a Whammy bar,the white painted Fender" Charvel'' is why.. all this is available online and in many many magazines.

Music is music and no one in this life is superior to anyone else. Get your head fixed. Any form of music holds within it; somewhere, elements of 'received' sound. All people - musicians included - listen to others unless they live on the planet Zorg. As for this Geezer being the godfather of Heavy Rock - I am perplexed by this as I have no idea what Heavy Rock is other than when trying to landscape my garden. The problem with the modern world, is that it is full of young assholes who think they invented the cake. My comment was that this guy has a beard that is one colour and hair another - if the guy was cognoscenti with his art-form then perhaps he would coordinate his appearance better, especially being some sort of deity among the tight-arses in life. Maybe he has some rare quality - other than playing scales, or whatever at the speed of light - which enables him to hold two-tones of hair colour (no pun intended). Fuck me - life has become so boring with all you young assholes with no fucking sense of the absurd.
