Not a fan of how so many gear-heads can’t give a compliment without also saying something negative. Instead of saying something arrogant like “this guy can actually play, unlike most CCM guys” or arguing about clean vs. dirty… why can’t we just compliment this dude who is clearly passionate about tones.

@joshuagibson15449 ай бұрын
I had the same assumption once upon a time, but I’ve learned that using longer and unique delays helps extend your sound without burying it. Reverb helps to set your playing back in the mix. I’ve started trying to add in reverb at the end of the chain to tastefully put my already ambient tone in the right spot.

I've always been an effects loop guy, but I've noticed all of my favorite tones I hear are people who run all effects in front of the amp. How do you play with your amps set to an edge of breakup tone and still get super lush but not overpowering reverbs/delays? I find if my amp is even slightly past perfectly clean, reverbs and delays get a little insane lol even when I drop the mix a pretty significant amount.
@brandongullion63539 ай бұрын
Alright I started actually using my compressor and that seemed to help lol. But still would love to get some insight on this as your reverb tones are SO good, even with a relatively driven starting point
@CorbCorbin9 ай бұрын
I used to have this problem with reverbs. Either, just put the reverb in the loop, and everything else to the front, or get one with a feature to change pre delay. A longer pre-delay may be all you need, to hear the notes clearly, before they hit a more lush reverb. But, he’s using one of the most expensive Reverb pedals there is. So, that’s a factor too. I used the Metéore o low settings, between two delays, for many years. Never had an issue. I’ve never been an effects loop guy, because I want the delay and verb to get my gain and mod pedals, not just the amp. I use a pretty clean amps, so it makes delay and verb sound sterile in the loop, for my taste.
@CorbCorbin9 ай бұрын
@@brandongullion6353 I never used a compressor, until getting the DSM & Humboldt ClearComp for a steal on clearance. It can be set to be barely there, but it adds a lot of sustain. It’s a studio style compressor, as I’ve tried the DynaComp and Keeley, among a few others, that just added noise and didn’t have any use but as a boost. I don’t need the super squeezed sound. Though I can get it if I want it.
@brandongullion63539 ай бұрын
@@CorbCorbin I was wondering if maybe pre delay was part of it. I did toy around with that last night among other settings and got a bit more consistency. Probably gunna just require more tweaking since I’m used to it being in the loop haha. Appreciate the tips!

Your preamp pedal is an overdrive. So you are stacking 3 drive pedals into a saturated compressed amp sound. The sound befire the compressor and preamp was the biggest sound. You said you didn't need to stack drives and that you wanted a big sound. That was the sound you had before the two or three drives.
@fakejauber9 ай бұрын
big differences between fuzz/distortion/od/boost/preamp pedals. ultimately comes down to compression. preamp acts as a tone shaper. can it be used as something that pushes the amp further into breakup? absolutely. but reaction and what happens inside the circuit are completely different. splitting hairs, but still different.

Hey Jake! love this rig so much, I'm new to Tonex and running 2 delays. My question is what is the routing after the vol pedal? looks like mono in mono out of the H90, but stereo into the the LVX. If I remember right you said you run the delays in series, H90 into LVX. How is this routed? Also as far as "stacking" delays in series i am assuming you run the quarter into the dotted 8th, correct? I currently split my signal after volume to Echosystem and Timeline and those feed reverb stereo in and stereo out to 2 tonex. Im not in love with my current setup and your getting what I heard in my head when I attempted my build. Sorry this long...you seem to have cracked the code, any help would be greatly appreciated. Side note, you made me realize im doing ambient wrong. I can't believe the ambient sounds your getting out of 2 delays stacked before even adding verb. I'm way too deep in verb for ambient stuff, gets way to washy and blurry. Thanks for any help!

that happens more when wets are post. the natural compression of the amp keeps the delay/reverb mix at bay.
