during my teen years I wanted to be like my father... ... then I learned some things and saw how he treated people, and realized I dont want to be anything like him at all ever... about a year later, I found out that I wanted to be like my grandfather, he is a great man... he hasn't always been, he made more than his share of mistakes, but he learned from them and bettered himself and tried to not make the same mistakes twice, he is kind compassionate, but also extraordinarily blunt and will tell you what he thinks... Him saying you are being an idiot isn't him calling you an idiot or suggesting you are, it's a warning that you are acting like an idiot and to stop because he knows it isn't true but others might not... He used to comment at how much weight I had been gaining at the time, I always took it as jabs not realizing how he spoke and what he meant, I was raised in a mentally and emotionally manipulative house both parents did it, so it's really the only way I knew of communicating and thought everyone did it. When I realized how he communicated I realized I had been wrong about him for so long, and also realized that I wanted to change how I communicated to the same way because it was just so... easy and pleasant to how I had been taught.

Shamefully I repeated their bigotry and words until I finally stopped lying to myself and trying to direct my anger and hate at others for no reason other than my own self hatred. I grew and became a better person. I stopped fighting the fact that I am a lesbian and I am Non-binary. Once I accepted myself it was eaiser to be kind and open to others. It's ok to grow from a bad place, it's ok to admit you were ignorant and mislead. You can't erase what you said or did,but you can learn from it and try your best to learn more each day. Remember we are all human beings, deserving ofove and being given a chance to be good. That includes you.

Last time i saw similar behavior like that, I was watching NYPD Blue and Sipowitz protected the Lt of his squad. he was gay too and Andy had his back. Even when they didn't like each other.

I already truly enjoyed the show, but it's at this point my respect grew immensely. My brain did think however that in the flashback, instead of homo he could have used 2 other words, but they would probably be too hard hitting to say in a comedy show for daytime TV, and the point had been made super clear regardless. Great show and super disappointed with myself for not watching it sooner

“All” is a little over the top. I mean I’m a lesbian. My wife is a cop and her sergeant is a lesbian. 😅🤣 so maybe “most” is more applicable

There's something about watching this scene for the first time after all those years of first being introduced to Stacy Keach as "Papa Titus" in Titus that absolutely threw me for a loop.

This scene is so good because honestly I think Jake would have been upset and done something about the homophobic comment anyways, because he a genuinely good guy- but in the context of his and Holt’s growing relationship, his past of looking up to the person who said it, and his shift to start looking up to and at Holt now in the present, this scene is just so much more meaningful. Jake would have punched the guy anyways for the comment, but if it wasn’t holt he was punching the guy for, he would have told the person. He chose to hide it from holt because he cared about holt, and wanted to take holts anger, not be praised for doing what is probably the obviously right thing in his mind. He didn’t need praise. He didn’t want it. And I think that shows some character growth, that Jake never told holt himself; he put his own pride aside
