What I'd love to see next is the same thing, but with a barebow setup. I shoot a very low angle, after struggling with various medium angles. I'd love to see that video!

Another great demonstration Jake. As someone that has over 100 grips that I've printed and tweaked over the last several years, this stuff takes a lot of time to work out which Jake has distilled considerably, saving you all a lot of time and frustration.

The relationship between grip, (stabilizer) balance, and tiller is something that too many people in archery don't really understand. While everyone will have a preference, the weight distribution and the forces applied to the bow during the draw absolutely influence the grip which results in the fewest errors while shooting.

Excellent timing of the video as I've just started experimenting with my grip and had some open questions that you answered. Great content!

Jake this is excellent and has really helped me understand what may happening with my own shooting. I shoot trad and due to an old bow hand thumb injury I struggle to find a grip that doesn't hurt after a few ends. But it's the interaction you explain that is really helpful. A higher grip is uncomfortable but I can shoot more consistently. But as well as my thumb pad, my bow shoulder starts to hurt which you nailed with grip height to shoulder. It's given me some angles to look into and get the sandpaper out. Thanks Jake.

I got your "I am" barebow grip from Rcore in low. My shots are more consistent now and much less strain on the bow shoulder joint. I feel i can engage my muscles more smoothly with a lower grip, if that makes sense.

Back in the early 80's many compound manufacturers include three different grips with there bows. Low, medium and high.. with so many coming from recurve bows they had op0tions to make the bows more familiar feeling.

All of this is why I sold my Hooter Shooter. Any data I collected from it was pointless due to the grip pressure not matching actual hand pressure. It’s also why I cringe every time I see someone timing a bow on a draw board. People completely disregard hand pressure points and it’s a huge factor in the bow. Even just the size of the archers hand makes a big difference. See coaches try to set up a bow and then hand it to a youth with smaller hands and a higher pressure point.

This has brought back memories of when I was young and used to shoot out Polo mints (OD ¾") at 30 yards indoors. The entire boss is now a blur 30 years later 😂😂😂. I had a high grip, and I could feel the clicker get to the last ⅛", then would tilt my wrist putting ALL the pressure on the webbing of my hand. As soon as that was the only point of contact, the clicker would go. I felt rather than heard it and I just automatically loosed. It always felt so relaxing to shoot, so meditative. I had a lot of stabilisation so the bow didn't jump or swing, it was utterly dead in the hand, despite holding 48lbs on my fingers and using ACEs. I've tried lower angles, and higher ones upto 50°, but I keep coming back to 45° every time. My form certainly isn't as good as it was in my late teens/early twenties, but now I'm in my mid fifties😅😅

I Jake! Nice video, as usual. I assume the angle is measured from a vertical line, like the bow string, right?

Hello ! Excellent video Jake ! Can you explain a little bit more what kind of modification you have to do on your bow tuning (in particular for the tiller split). I shoot in Olympic style recurve (atf-dx with his standard grip). If I choose a low or an ultra low grip, how I need to modify my tiller which is 4 mm (more tiller split or less) ? I ask because I'm interested to test a low grip. Thank you for all that you make.
@thecarrot441229 күн бұрын
I have a super high grip on my bows ~53°. It's just where my hand and wrist naturally sits when relaxed and I'm choosing not to fight it! It does require a different tiller setting but that's about it.
@doomedalarm42427 күн бұрын
Out of curiosity what tiller do you run?
@thecarrot441227 күн бұрын
@doomedalarm424 not certain, I'll have to check it when I get a chance. I just adjust it until it feels right and results in good nock travel. It also requires a change when I change arrows and stabilisers so it's not really worth knowing the exact figure

Surely it is about what you are used to, I have had the same grip that came with my bow, I am now used to it so my shot is as perfect as can be, changing grip would cause me to change the dynamics of my shot, and I would have to get used to it all again, you adjust to what you use and become perfect as possible, with the equipment, I find that if you change anything at all it takes time to adjust back to the perfect shot. I dread when my arrow rest snaps ad it eventually dies, I try to mount it in exactly the same place but it never is, and take a few ends to get back to optimum, changing grips when you first get equipment is a good idea, but once used to your setup never change, because you body has adjusted to the equipment.
@jezmckinley1833Ай бұрын
There is a lot to be said for your argument, we can spend way too much time playing with kit rather than just practising. However, adjustments to anything can make a big difference to your results because they work with features of your specific anatomy rather than despite it. So, as with life in general, it's a balance. Getting a good balance between kit tweaks and adapting to the kit with targeted practice is the key.

Defintions for pivot point These are not related. 1)geometric centreline to the risers 2) throat of the grip 3) centre of gravity. The centre of gravity is the key. Tue reason for this is the bow should pivot round that point with equal energy inputs top and bottom, which is what you kind of aim for with tiller. Remember not all risers have tue throat in the same location to the gemoetric centreline so this being the pivot is BS. The concept behind the tempest is that the centre of gravity is the same place as the pressure point.
@JakeKaminskiArcheryАй бұрын
It’s common to refer to the area I was referencing as the “Pivot point of the grip” not meaning the pivot point of the bow necessarily.
@BorderArcheryLTD29 күн бұрын
@JakeKaminskiArchery forgiveness isnt related proximity of the pressure point and the pivot point but could be said to be related to the pressure point and the geometric centre. As to not harm tiller with a horribly asymetrical nocking point. The pressure point related to the centre of gravity is more about vibration and post closure shot reaction.
