Thanks for doing this comparison video. Very helpful and informative. And if I might add…there were some FANTASTIC choices for the silicone & resin colors-not all but some 😉😂💯🔥🧡

Good job Jake. I am part of an epoxy special interest group in San Diego (part of San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association). Mold release has been a topic discussed briefly. Your point about mold releases built for different applications was well discussed and something our group hasn't talked about enough. I will share your video with our group so they can learn also. One other question that comes up on occasion is when should a pressure pot be used vs. vacuum chamber? I believe you are one of the YT experts out there that actually use both and may be able to give a straightforward explanation. Or, you may already have a video on this. If you already have a video - or series of videos - can you send me the link or playlist to share with the group? Thank you in advance.

Thank you Rob for the nice compliments. As far as the pressure pot vs vacuum chamber.. I definitely should make a video on that.. stay tuned 👍

Can't thank you enough for making these style of compare videos so we can see whats up. Too many makers opinions are single view and bought. Not so with you! Even doing this for while, there is ALWAYS more to learn. And you show us what we can expect with each option, and if you have a preference, why. Thank you!

Thanks for the info I just bought a dry PTFE spray I'll try it out, What do you think about it for mold release? Any of the cans you showed have this PTFE ?

From my understanding, PTFE spray is a lubricant, not a release agent

I like how you got 3 solid tests with basically one pour. Love the efficiency. Edit: I did notice, however, that you didn't do a control without any mold release. One more edit: Are all of these the same size/number of uses? A per can price is meaningless, if one of them is about 100 uses, and another is only 70...
@JakeThompson11 ай бұрын
Thanks .. I try to not waste any time or materials.. all of them had mold release. I didn’t show it to the bowls I poured resin in. I said in the video that those were also sprayed.

i use VASELINE on my platinum molds... lots of vaseline.. i believe that the molds will last for your entire lifespan if you use vaseline as a coating... Think about it, the resin isnt actually touching the mold itself , so how can it wear out.
@JakeThompson7 ай бұрын
I agree but I also need my molds to look good too.. if the Vaseline is thick or not even.. the molds look bad… I’ve been experimenting with it on some smaller molds .

i just watched a video of a guy that uses VASELINE as his mold release and then he used a HEAT GUN to melt liquify the vaseline into a light coating over his mold... it looked great.

can you use mold release spray lets say to spray my mixing cups for making resin. Use them and then let my silicone mixing cups to dry and harder and it would be a easy clean up on resin tools and such? trying to find a easier way to do clean ups and such and not deal with the headache of de-resin my mixing tools. Im hoping that the spray does not come off when mixing the resin in the silicone cups and not mess up my resin projects and art if the spray does come off? @jakethompson
@JakeThompson3 ай бұрын
Yes sir.. I would be afraid of that exactly.. my resin mixing tools, I use denatured alcohol to clean off the tools right after pouring… I buy cheap cups and just throw them away 😳
