As a littlfe girl I used to go to the station with my boy cousins, packet of sandwiches, notebook and pencil, stayed all day train spotting. That was in Grantham and we regularly saw the Flying Scotsman rushing through, pounding in my chest, station shaking, whistle blowing. So exciting. Never forgotten it

Well done to all involved in this excellent clip! The magic of steam stays forever in one's blood, one's eyes, one's ears and one's nostrils! I am an eighty-year-young and proud South African, and watched our excellent steam trains regularly as they chuffed their suburban way from Simon's Town station to Cape Town station (slightly uphill) with their inimitable, hard-working chuffing which my grandmother explained was "I think I can, I think I can I think I can". The trains from Cape Town station to Simon's Town station (slightly downhill) chuffed a very different, faster language: " I knew I could, I knew I could, I knew I could". What wonderful memories!

Splendid video! I'm an American old lady & my dad worked for RRs from age 17 to his retirement. By age 5 I knew the names of all the freight cars and grew up riding steam trains around the U.S. I loved the smell of the coaches & sound of the engine idling in the station. Oh I miss those days! I will watch this video many times!

I have watched this video of steam engine hauled trains many times and enjoyed all the twist and turns with great enthusiasm and pleasure cos I had worked as a goods train guard back in 1971 to 1975 in Pakistan Railways. I wish I could make the steam engine's video but then I had no access to this current luxury of cell phones. The categories of locos were CWD, SGS etc. I still appreciate the definition uncle Fazal who had reported the station master of not hauling train after having attached many wagons from a cement f cement factory and instead worked hard to dismantle the arm with the big tool s

@@michaelramsey82 There's a heritage railroad that would be about doable for me, Strasburg Railroad and I've seen videos of their excursion steam trains. Now, if you wonder why I'm here when I'm not British, it's because British steam taught me about steamers when I was a child who watched Thomas videos. Now, I watch them again because I got nostalgia. I also watch videos related to those, like ones of A Day Out With Thomas or about the basis of a TTTE engine and it leads me down the track to stuff like this. I've watched footage of Thomas in real life, as the narrator said. It was a real E2 pulling a freight train and the narrator said it was like Thomas pulling the Troublesome Trucks, except faceless.

Really enjoyed your collection. Nothing like a steam locomotive underway!!! As a young 18 year old GI in South Korea just after end of WWII I was terribly cold. So found a steam locomotive and climbed on board. We were headed for Pusan. W. as warm all the way but really choked as we went through a long tunnel (seemed if it was uphill). Had several trips from Pusan to Taegu by simply climbing into the locomotive cab, smiling at the crew and offering my flashlight ( check axels) and American cigarettes. Keep up the good work. john lannom

Thanks for the splendid video, certainly takes me back in time, the good thing about todays locos is they look good and are in great condition, back in the 1950s most of the locos were nothing like they are today, lots of locos were poorly maintained and therefore never fulfilled their potential and this was endemic to all regions, a vote of thanks must go to all who maintain these locos and also the crew's who man them.

It's great to see all these beautiful locos on these what we used to call `out of area` locos, meaning back in the 1950s when I was trainspotting it would have been akin to miracle to see double headed black `5`s on a 13 coach train on these lines at Dawlish Devon, these lines were then solely GWR territory, so in many ways the viewers of today are certainly spoilt with all this magnificent content they are able to watch, thanks for the fantastic video.

What amazes me the most is 220 years ago when Steam engine prototypes were being made is: Who thought heating up water to create steam in a pressurised boiler that expands and puts pressure on the pistons to create momentum. And they lasted for more than 100 years. Britain only began replacing its steam engines with diesel and electric trains in the 1930s. and steam locomotives like the DB Class 50 and 52 were the backbone of both East and West Germany up until the 1960s. But West Germany did not retire its final steam locomotive until 1977 and on the other side of the Iron Curtain the Deutsche Reichsbahn did not retire their last steam locomotive until 1988, a year before the Berlin Wall came down and 3 years before the Iron Curtain was lifted

Beautifully done. High craftsmanship on the equipment. Wonderful scenery. Yet, it would have been more enjoyable if the there had been some text on screen (no voice necessary) to identify engine types and names of towns/villages, and the like.
