The trains and the railroad are so clean and beautiful It must be a real pleasure to work there. Come to the US to see what bad trains, equipment and tracks look like. Oh and could you show the inside of your cab, too. I would love to see what that looks like.

I love how, in these videos, the train just ploughs through snow drifts covering the track like it's nothing. In my neck of the woods (South Wales, UK) our trains grind to a halt and can be delayed for hours, and even cancelled, for something so simple as wet leaves on the track. It's actually kinda sad, really... Two or three inches of snow can bring the whole of Britain to a standstill.

I find the cab view very relaxing and I go into a sort of trance - probably induced by the monotony anodyne. I love the start when he's making his way through the train to get to his cab at the front. At some point he realises that he's going to be late so he gets off the train and starts running. Someone should have taken him aside and said "No point in running, old boy - you can't miss the train because you're driving it"

Yes, those are very nice. I'm already pretty familiar with the system since I got a copy of the Sir. Trykk 401 in the 1980s, and subsequently have done a lot of observation and photographing, especially in Oslo (and the funky DB-style signals in Lysaker (the stop for Simula Labs with whom I collaborate). But it is really nice to see the cab view to see so many signals (and level-crossing signals) cleared that you don't so often see cleared from the back of the train).

Thank you for an absolutely superb video! In Britain there are no trains on 25th December and very few on 26th. But in the rest of Europe the railways run a norrnal service. We in Britain have got things badly wrong. Every British politician and Railway(wo)man should view the one minute of this video between 3h 14m and 3h 15m. They will see the huge crowd of passengers waiting for the train at Geilo.
@RailCowGirl6 жыл бұрын
It will probably shock you that the Right Wing government here has opted for the british model in their bid to “get more railroad at a lower cost”. Yep. They are privatizing the sector, and already now do we see the horrible results. Especially on MAINTENANCE and regularity.... Why on earth they would even try it is beyond me, but it’s hard to reason with someone who won’t see beyond their ideology...
@rogersexton78576 жыл бұрын
I DID know what the Norwegian government is doing! Your government has the same mistaken ideology towards public transport as in Britain, and it too 'won't see beyond their ideology'. This is seen not just with trains but also with buses and ferries. Ferry fares are extremely expensive. With buses, the number of passengers outside London is falling dramatically, and there will soon be no buses outside the major cities.
@carlthompson12475 жыл бұрын

Excellent this one. Funny, I have had an idea for many years to illustrate a train journey by putting music to a cab view video, taken in rainy weather and with the wipers going back and forth, with Pat Metheny's "Are you going with me". Probably one should opt for a very long straight track for best effect, which might be somewhat difficult in Norway. But what the heck ;-)
